Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Scam

Actually I need your help for my Aunt.. She is 76 years old & has a myraid of health problems (heart diesase, diabetes) & has been pestered for several months by a scam targeting the elderly..

In August she received a phone call from a representative from the "social security administration" informing her that she over paid for her medicines by $200 odd dollars.. they would issue a refund to her checking account & they needed her account number & routing #.. she readily gave it & they hung up..

As soon as she hung up she knew she did something wrong & immediately called her bank who froze her account AND issued her a new checking account.. problem solved, right? WRONG!!!

Ever since then she has been inundated with calls several times a week with the SAME scenario.. she started by being rude & telling them to bug off.. but they just get rude right back & keep calling for over an hour!!

She then started telling them they had the wrong number & they still didn't disuade them.. they keep calling back ..
she also asked if she could call them back & they gave her a bogus number & then called HER back.. she asked to speak to a supervisor & another person got on the phone..

She has called SS admin & they told her they can't do anything for her to just hang up on the people.. she also called the phone co who said they numbers are probably frokm a phone card so untraceable & for her to change her number.. she doesn't want to do that as she's had the same number for over 50 years

any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.. she knows now not to give out ANY information but they continue to call.. every time they call she calls me upset. .more so, at herself for letting this happen but also frustrated..

anyone know of any good comebacks she can say to these people to stop them in their tracks? & any govt agency ( or anything she can call to get this reported?? I've done some research online & the advice is to simply hang up.. but gosh that's frustrating to do several times weekly for over an hour..

I told her that you guys could probably come up with some good comebacks for her to use.. I originally told her to play with them a little; act real feeble & hard of hearing "What did you say, honey... you want my medicine? yes i'm taking my medicine, thanks for calling!"
or to give a fake number, & the funniest I could come up with is to engage them in conversation " I was just watching price is right, do you watch it?"

If nothing else, you guys can help me give her a laugh over this situation with your witty comebacks!!

Re: Scam

I think she should tell them that Mrs. {Aunt's Name} has been sent to jail for Social Security Fraud.

Or, she could use my grandmother's tactic: blow a whistle in their ear as loud as she can! (Coincidentally, my grandmother stopped receiving most phone calls shortly after discovering her "blow the whistle" technique.)

I can't imagine how someone can take advantage of older folks. I hope they like the heat...

Re: Scam

As far as I know the phone company should be able to run a trace on the line for her. Even though they may not be able to do anything, at least she is going through the steps.

It really disturbs me that there are ao many sick people who pray on the elderly.

The things I would say I can not repeat, this is a family board after all.

She could also play the hard of hearing game. When they ask is so and so there they she could just keep going what.... who is this..... hello is any one there...... hello....
You get it, they will most likely just end up hanging up.

Good luck to our Aunt.

to her at least she caught in time...

The whistle idea is a really good one, another is to contact the local news. The local news does stories on this but they can research it farther to see if they can "find" the people responsible.

Re: Scam

I like the whistle idea. If she doesn't like this idea, how about caller id? If it came up as unavailable or a # that she didn't recognize, she would not have to answer and she wouldn't worry that she missed an important phone call.

Re: Scam

I think the caller id idea is good; followed closely by the whistle (or combined with the caller id). That would also give her the number they are calling from and she can block those calls.

Re: Scam

I had a similar situation a while back and two things worked for me:

I got a whistle - like a coach's whistle and kept it by the phone and when they started, I'd just give it a nice long blow.

If they asked for me, I'd just say "I'm sorry, she passed away." and hang up.

After about a week, the calls stopped.

Caller ID and an answering machine.

If it's someone who really needs to talk to her they can leave a message or talk so she can pick up, otherwise, let them talk to the machine...

Re: Scam

What about the police? Is there anything they can do? I can't believe that the telephone co. or social security wont'/can't do anything!

Re: Scam

Caller ID is a definite start... it costs a couple bucks a month, but at least she'll know who's calling and be able to decide whether or not to pick up the phone. I'm sure it's probably the same people who almost got the information the first time trying to catch her off guard again. I'd have her contact the police to see if there's anything else that can be done.
