As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wedding foilables
Did anything go wrong at your wedding (assuming you had one) or a wedding you attended? What was it?
Me: My step-son knocked a music stand into the Grand Piano and left a huge gauge in it (still there, too). My mother was our minister and she sneaked in vows we hadn't approved, making the 15 minute ceremony into an hour one. My step-son and my daughter got into a fist-a-cuffs as they were recessing from the alter (they were 5, so it was kind of funny). My brothers-in-law had decided they didn't need to attend the rehearsal, so there was quite a bit of confusion at the alter. My Daddy cried. My monthly friend came to visit that morning. Dh got confused during the whole thing, and kissed me at the wrong time (not that I was complaining - we just got to do it again later!)
At my Uncle's wedding - my sister and I fell off the pew because we were laughing so hard! Our DbF's weren't so happy. What made us laugh? Picture the minister from Princess Bride (old, old, senile, lisp, and odd accent) saying "who takes Mary to be Married to Harry" and you might see the humor (Grandma didn't, but all the other uncles and Dad did, so we were okay)

Re: Wedding foilables
When my father married my stepmother the priest called him Bill instead of Dennis....so now we call him Bill every once in a while.

Re: Wedding foilables
The minister called me Margaret, which is the name of the only other female my husband had dated!!! Well, regardless of that error we are close to our 40th wedding anniversary!

Re: Wedding foilables
The best man and my husband-to-be were involved in a hit and run. They did the running. It seems the best man's wife's car was a Dodge Neon and they're made of mostly plastic. He bumped into the neighbor's car when he was pulling out of my grandmother's driveway to leave for the ceremony and didn't realize he'd hit the car. So my husband and his best man were being discreetly questioned by the police when I showed up. The police - mindful that such a thing might upset the bride - did the questioning and insurance exchange out of sight of the car I was sitting in while I waited to enter the building before the ceremony. Everyone hid the evidence and the entire event from me until the following day so I wouldn't freak out. That's what friends are for - to hide the big, bad things that happen on your wedding day.
Also - we were supposed to have a dry reception. When friends and family got wind of that piece of news, they took it upon themselves to provide additional refreshment. The groomsmen picked up cases of champagne and whiskey. The bridesmaids stocked up several backpacks with jugs of premixed margaritas and Jack and Cokes. The mother of the groom brought several cases of wine. And my own mother decided at the last minute to have two kegs of beer delivered. So much for my sober ceremony and reception. There wasn't an adult in my wedding party who wasn't blitzed before the processional.
Proof of the drunken haze at my wedding is forever captured in these lovely photos:

Re: Wedding foilables
The biggest glitch was that despite ordering our dresses from the bridal shop nearly a year in advance, we were down to a couple of weeks before the wedding and our dresses still hadn't arrived in the store. They did show up a few days after my Mom went in and threatened them. Nothing really went "wrong" with our wedding other than we had our photos taken prior to the wedding in my parents' living room at the farm. When it came time for us to leave for the church in town (15 miles away) we realized that either I had to strip out of my gown (and all those stupid tiny little buttons) or I had to stand all the way to town because I couldn't sit on my gown without it wrinkling something awful. Fortunately, my parents owned a motorhome at the time, so I stood in the kitchen and we drove to the church! Oh, and another thing was that during our vows I was all teary and spoke very quietly -- my great aunt swore up and down that I didn't say a word and therefore wasn't legally married! Re: Wedding foilables
One of the groomson (my DBIL who was 20 at the time. put his shoes in the wastebaskef at the hotel for "safekeeping" . The male members of the wedding party went out to play mini-golf and came to a clean room and you guessed it - The shoes were gone . Since they were already runninglate they all went ahead and put on their tan tuxes (this was the 70s, you know )and went out to the garbage dumpster to find them! They did and were only a half hour late getting to the church.

Re: Wedding foilables
My poor cousin's (the bride) wedding in May was crazy. Her husband to be came down with a stomach virus and spent the night before the wedding at the ER. The wedding was at a castle and it was supposed to be outside. It came a terrible, unexpected thunderstorm just minutes before the ceremony. I was in the wedding party and we had to scramble at the last minute as everything was moved inside.
After the nuptials, the bride and her dad got into an argument and she ended up in tears just as the power went out before her reception. The reception was held under candle light. My mom goes up to retrieve her purse in the dark in the honeymoon suite and breaks a huge mirror in their room (can you say seven years of bad luck )! To top it all off, the bride ended up in the ER on her wedding night with the same stomach virus.
Luckily, they spent a week at WDW for their honeymoon and had a great time!

Re: Wedding foilables
FOILABLES!? No we can't have any of that! In 6 weeks and 6 days we are getting married. I'm sure something will go wrong. Probably like me tripping on my way down the aisle. I found these perfect shoes for my dress but they have this little tiny pointy heel and I'm gonna kill myself! After the wedding I will probably have a whole list. Re: Wedding foilables
I think back on my wedding and it was great! We had a wonderful time!! There were a few "problems" though. My dad had to do the the ER. While decorating for my reception he hit his head on a piece of protruding metal and gashed his head. Luckily, the ER was very accomodating and stitched him up ASAP! He told them he was going to be late for his daughter's wedding. My mom was late for pictures. I was late to the church because I was trying to do everything. Because I was running late I called soon to be dh and told him to tell the photographer to go ahead with the male photos. He then told me they were just leaving IHOP and were on the way home to shower and shave! I was furious!!! They were late because his friend would not get up and get ready and then the friend took forever to eat at IHOP. I asked him who was more important his friend or me, who had spent almost a year planning our wedding. On my way to get my hair done I was almost runover in the gas station parking lot by a mail truck. Which is kind of ironic because both of my parents work/ed for the post office. Anyway, there were other things that went wrong but nothing is perfect but I always tell dh that our wedding was perfect for us! If nothing had gone wrong I would have been wondering what was up!

Re: Wedding foilables
My sister had a big Catholic wedding in Mazatlan, Mexico and everything that could go wrong did…
The priest was drunk.
The priest did the entire ceremony in Spanish (my sister doesn’t understand Spanish, and I don’t think the people who did speak Spanish understood what the priest was saying).
When my bridesmaid dress showed up it was made inside out (hoop and everything).
My sister’s best friend broke her hand (because of the stupid limo driver) on the way to the wedding.
My brother-in-law parked the rented Jeep on a hill at the reception and it rolled down and hit several other cars.
My sister and her husband-to-be got in a BIG fight the night before the wedding and we almost didn’t have a wedding.
The day of the wedding the bathrooms were backed-up at the hotel and there was no hot water. We had to take showers in a metal bucket with cold water (even the bride).
I could go on and on …what can you expect when your maiden name is MURPHY!
The good news is that they did get married and will celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary in January. And even with everything that did go wrong, my sister made a beautiful bride.

Re: Wedding foilables
Nothing too bad at ours. Just one incident. We were married near an ice cream shop called "The Purple Cow Creamery" and they had a huge (bigger than a person) stuffed purple cow. I had made the comment about how I wished I had a stuffed purple cow to a friend. Needless to say, he showed up with it as a wedding gift to me My mom went down to the ice cream shop and explained before they called the cops that the cow was at my wedding reception and would be returned after it was over. They thought it was funny and even came up to the reception to see me dance with the cow - I think everyone ended up dancing with the cow. Good times

Re: Wedding foilables
Her is the town I live in just 6 days before my wedding...let's just say that Mother Nature had a temper tantrum that could've ruined our wedding. Except for some scrambling to get all the wedding supplies (tuxes, dresses, flowers, etc.) a week early (they were baracading the downtown area for cleanup) things went pretty smoothly!

Re: Wedding foilables
My dh's 2 neices (age 3 at the time) were the flower girls. They did a great job going down the aisle. But when we were all standing up at the front and the pastor was giving his "thoughts" on marriage, they started fighting over the flower petals they still had in their little flower baskets. Now - this started out as little voices and by the end of the fight - they had taken all the flower petals out of each other's basket and they started crying and screaming "Mine, Mine...my fower pets! (flower petals in 3 year old terms! ) The pastor had to stop the ceremony and talk to the girls - and then he asked them to sit down and stop crying.
We have all of this on audio tape - and it is hilarious! They are now each 31 years old and to this day are embarrased by the mention of my wedding!

Re: Wedding foilables
Oh, I forgot about when I was Maid of Honor at my sister's wedding. It was a Moravian service and everyone got a candle. The best man and I went to each row and lit the candle of the person on the end. I got to a friend of mine and said "Fire is cool" in my best Beavis and Butthead voice. I thought I was being quiet but with the church acoustics - It sounded very, very loud. My sister still brings it up once in a while.
