Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Heart stopping moment
Not a good way to start the day....
Jim got home from work at 7am, hewent to sleep & kids are still asleep. I'm sitting here in the office/playroom at my computer which is off the kitchen ( a hallway & bathroom separate it.. don't get me started on the bathroom next to the kitchen.. ::GROSS!!:: whoever built this house was )
All of a sudden I hear a HUGE bang like a gunshot from the kitchen area ( which also overlooks our VERY busy street) I run into the kitchen to see my entire floor covered in water... My heart is now racing about 100 miles a minute.. wondering what caused the water.. did a pipe burst, is my freezer broken.. The water is ICE cold... Hmm.. must be the freezer.. then I look down to see the jug of water Jamie had frozen to take to basketball practice today.. It apparently was taken out of the freezer last night & with the super hot air constricted & then burst open & fell on the floor.. UGH... at least all I had to do is clean up water ( & give the floor a small clean to boot) not pay $$ for a burst pipe or freezer..
BTW.. Jamie just woke up & told me he took the jug out of the freezer last night to let it thaw a little for today.. AARGH!!
So, when was YOUR last heart stopping moment?

The metal ring on Belle's collar broke on Tuesday and she went running. Thank goodness she was a good girl and ran right back to me when I called her!

Re: Heart stopping moment
That woulda scared the snot outta me!! Glad it wasn't something seriously broken!!
My last heart stopping moment was the other night, I was dreaming that someone was holding me down trying to put something in my eye (weird I know) and I think Andy was laying on my arm, so I really felt like I was being held down. I jerked up and jerked my arm up and in the process scared him to death. I was still out of it from sleeping and dreaming that I thought I saw a shadow in the kitchen.... So my heart was beating really hard.. Poor Andy, he didn't get much sleep b/c of me

Re: Heart stopping moment
Omg! Sorry, but that is kinda funny now that I know it wasn't anything real serious!!
My last heart stopping moment was the night of July 20th - we had just come home from our holidays at the lake and I was looking forward to sleeping in my own bed....and just as I was drifting off to Slumberland, I felt something light scooting across my hand. I thought it was a hair or something but I looked out the corner of my sleepy eye and saw the biggest spider known to mankind running for cover! Ok, so maybe it wasn't really the biggest spider known to mankind, but it was a big sucker and it scared the life out of me! I shrieked and Dan saved me by squashing it. Of course after that, my heart was beating like I'd just run a mile and I was paranoid and had to search the room for any spider buddies before I could get back to sleep! Re: Heart stopping moment
Wow - I am glad it was just a frozen water jug and not a gunshot or broken pipe! YIKES!
My heart stopping moment was about a week ago. I had gone to the fair with some friends - they were dropping me off at my house, it was about 10:30 p.m. As I was getting out of the car, there was a large explosion! I jumped! My friend opens the car window and says "What was that?" I have no idea - about that time my dh comes out of the house and asks if we are OK. - except for my heart pounding in my ears! He said that was the second time that evening that he had heard an explosion. He figured it was someone lighting off M80's!!!! I have no idea where they were doing this - as we live next to a creek and farmland! My dh thought maybe some kids were down by the creek setting them off!
Now - are M80's even legal???????

Re: Heart stopping moment
Mine was when you just had the big storms blow through STL. I had met up with DW and kids at another town up the road. We came out of Target and seen the dark sky and figured we better get home ASAP. I backed into our driveway and DW pulled in next to me. Our electric was already out by then so I ran to the front door, so I could get in to pull the emergency cord on the garage door. I was probably 3 or 4 feet away from my truck when a crack of lighting came down. It was so close to where I was I couldn't here a static electricity noise. I had to have come up off the ground three feet; I thought I was a gonner! DW said she screamed when it happened because she thought I got hit when I jumped, she ended up scaring the kids and they cried for ten mintues.

Re: Heart stopping moment
OMG Donna.. Shelby would have been in hysterics .. she is petrified of spiders ( big or small) Last week at Brendan's baseball game Shelby was sitting on the ground in front of the Moms & was counting up her change to go to the concession stand & my friend saw a tiny spider crawling up Shelby's back.. she brushed it off saying "Shelby, there's a spi..." & didn't get the 'der' out before Shelby jumped & let out a blood curling scream & change went flying everywhere... so for the rest of the rournaments Shelby was lovingly teased over her spider fear.. (she's considered a tomboy who isn't afraid of anything)

Re: Heart stopping moment
I'm glad your scare was easy to clean up and didn't cost any money!
Ok as long as we are all telling our scarry stories, mine was the other day out in my front flower bed. I was weeding and went to step down further into my flower bed when I almost stepped on the largest, ugliest, toad I have ever seen. The toad was as large as my hand and it was black on top (from the dirt I'm guessing) and had bumps all over. YUCK!!!!! I yelled and jumped out of the flower bed. It's a wonder that I didn't twist my ankle or anything.

Re: Heart stopping moment
Donna, I had a similar moment with a spider a few nights ago. Except it definitely was the largest spider I've ever seen and it was trying to get into my car when I opened the door. I saw it and let out the loudest blood-curdling shriek. DH came running to see who was dying. And gentleman that he is - he squashed it with his own sandal for me. (After calling me a girl, he and DS laughed at me. )

Re: Heart stopping moment
Last night! The storms were super bad and I woke up and decided to get out of bed and go downstairs and as I rounded the corner of my bed I almost had a heart attack! Something about 3-4 ft. tall was blocking my way! It was so creepy! Turns out my daughter was on her knees, still as a statue, not sure if she should wake me up to tell me the storm was really loud (uh, yeah, I needed to be told that!). I gasped loudly when I saw her form and DH woke up and DD gasped too! I couldn't get my heart out of my throat for an hour! I have to confess to reading Darren Shan's books lately (Cirque Du Freak), and they have all types of creepy characters. Time to switch to more boring reading.
