As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

July 4th WDW Family Getaway - Day1 Part 2 - UPDATE 7/30
Preface: Let me just say that this is my first trip report and as the title reads it was not the best trip we have ever taken. I will retell the story as it happened. At times it might be very depressing although we really did try to make lemonade out of the lemons that Murphy was dishing out.
So after knowing all of that..... let's start the pre-TR :::
<font color="blue"> 7/3-7/8 -- July 4th Orlando Family Getaway… Pre tip report…
aka as “When did we pick Murphy up? TR”
Actors: DH, DS, Me with very special appearances by Murphy
Dates: 7/3- 7/8 2006
Reason: We went for r&r… Murphy went for laughs!
A few weeks after returning from Paris, France, Europe (not Paris, OHIO, USA as hotels.com thought…. oh that is another trip… sorry) in April ’06, DH and I sort of discussed maybe hinted at going to WDW since DLP was a rainout. We entertained the thought of going in July ‘06 very briefly since we had gone in July ’05 and practically passed out from the wall to wall people and the heat. Still, for 15 minutes, we spoke and mutually agreed that we would not go, especially not in July because of the heat, the long lines and skin to skin people. The decision was made and it was really okay, I was happy with it and although at times during the next three months we jabbed each other with a “wouldn’t it be nice to go to WDW” we promptly knew it was not meant to be.
Two weeks prior to July 4th, my DH gets an email from his company stating that they were going to receive July 3rd as a vacation day. Five minutes later DH is on the phone asking me, “Guess what?” I guess incorrectly and was told of the wonderful news that he would have a four day weekend, plus he decided to take the extra three days that week, so we could go to WDW if we wanted. “Huh??? But I thought we were not going to go in July! Do you know that prices are sky high to WDW now, two weeks prior to July 4th?” < I say. He responds, “That is what we have you for… go get the deals!” So off I go to Expedia.com, Hotwire.com, Priceline.com, Jetblue.com, Orbitz.com and a few other .coms that I have forgotten when I remember Walmart.com. So there I am at Walmart.com and I am able to get a package of air, hotel and car for $1299, which I promptly book because of two reasons. First I think, I am getting quotes for airfare at $900 for all of us, and then I think I can’t get any cheaper packages. Happy that package is booked I tell DH and he is happy. We decide to not tell DS and keep it a secret! Both of us want to see his face light up when he finds out.
A few days later I start dropping hints to DS that we may go to see Mickey and he is not thrilled. His answers range from, “I don’t want to go”, to, “We have already gone there before, why do we need to go again.” I stop while I am ahead and keep it a secret.
Soon it is time to start packing the suitcases and DS is asking why I am packing and I just answer, “I just feel like practicing packing.” It worked because he did not ask again… whew! Sometimes I wonder about my DS who is going to be 7. Still, I am happy that he doesn’t need too many explanations for my behavior (LOL).
June 30th rolls around and DS loses a tooth! The tooth fairy whom DS adores more than Santa because “she comes more often” gives the astronomical payment of $10 for the tooth along with an incredible card that tells DS July will be filled with magic, especially since his birthday is at the end of the month. He quickly discards the card and keeps the money. (I told you I sometimes wonder about him, right?) I ask him what the card says and he replies, “It’s going to be a magical month, mommy.” So I ask, “What do you think that means?” “I don’t know mommy, but it is going to be good!” he says as he lets out that cute laugh while he wiggles his butt.” In my house DS’s butt wiggles are a good sign that he is really happy! As long as he is happy, all is cool with my world.
Two days prior to WDW, the tooth fairy leaves a Buzz Lightyear beach towel and a Power Rangers Mystic Force tank top under his pillow. In the morning DS is delighted that the tooth fairy came again and asks if we saw her. “Nope!” Still, he is happy and has no idea we are going to WDW. That day we tell DS that DH has four glorious vacation days coming up and we are going to have a blast!
The night prior to leaving I am packing everything while DH and DS sleep. All that is keeping me going is the fun that we will have at WDW and the happiness on my DS’s face when we tell him…. “We are going to see Mickey!”
Next: Why is Murphy here?

Re: July 4th WDW Family Getaway - UPDATE Day 1 - \"Why is Murphy here?\"
1st day 7/3 – Part one – "Why is Murphy here?"
(Note: Two nights ago DH shaved ALL of his facial hair! Also, I will add pics at the end of TR because I can’t find them.) Okay… on with the TR….
<font color="blue">
Dawn has broken, I am still awake, no need to go to bed since in two hours or so I will have to wake DH and DS. I take this time to look over everything with special detail to my DS’s nebulizer, spacer, mask and meds. Even though my DS does not need these items on a daily or monthly basis, I am always prepared. Everything my DS “needs” is there so all is packed away and I am happy looking forward to DTD and our first sleep in Orlando.
I sit down to watch CNN as I am a junkie of almost all their programming. While I watch I note a train has derailed/crashed in Valencia, Spain the details were sketchy, but it looked to be the second worst train accident in Spain. This is important to me because my family is from Valencia and I had been on that subway line a couple of times so I was familiar with it. My family lives in Valencia so it had a bit of an impact on me, but I brushed it off thinking that I had not heard from my family so I applied the saying, “No news is good news.” When I saw my mother later that morning I mentioned it to her in a passing remark and she was aware of it but the conversation did not go further. Thankful that all was well for our family while sad for the victim’s families, I continued on my WDW way. Still, I kept abreast of the tragedy, if only just to archive it in the mind of my family’s history.
DH and DS wake up (well, I really woke them up and startled myself when I saw DH because I still had not gotten used to his clean-shaven face! It was almost like being with another man!!) and luggage is out and set. DS says, “Mommy, why is the luggage at the door?” I answer, “I packed a picnic lunch in it because we are going to the ‘park’ ”. “Ooooh, the park! I love the park! Are we going to the park today, Mommy?” I reply, “Yes we are angel of joy! ” (Okay, everyone,[yes, you reading] we were going to the park, I just didn’t say **which** park. Technically, I am telling the truth). DH and I have a chat to which I bring up the idea that we should take the taxi earlier than planned because of holiday traffic and the security area at JFK will probably be packed. DH agrees and we all get ready. I call the taxi and we are on our way.
Taxi picks us up and the drivers t-shirt says ORLANDO….well, well, things are looking up already!! He asks us where we are going and I say in a very low voice “JFK”. As we are driving DS asks, “Why are we going to the park in a taxi?” I answer, because it is a special park”. DS is satisfied and we keep on our way. A few minutes later DS asks, “Why are we going to the airport?” Another tactful reply… “Well, Daddy wants to see a plane lift off before going to the park.” (I think I did well……what do you think?”)
Three-quarters of the way there DH says, “I must have put my glasses in the carry-on.” I don’t say anything since I am just happy to be sitting down and enjoying the hot breeze coming through my taxi window…. Yes, I am dreaming of WDW and the fun we are going to have.
We get to the airport, Delta terminal and there we are DH and I with our faces beaming. DS is confused , but whatever. We enter the terminal and we are greeted by a nice customer service agent who asks, “What is your destination?” Okay, my face went white and I swear I must have looked terrorized when I whispered “Orlando”. She must have understood very well because she then said, “Oh, he doesn’t know he is going does he? I understand I am a Mom too. He is going to be sooooo surprised!” That was truly a magical moment because I thought I was going to be in jail or at least be searched. She congratulates us for packing so lightly that we are not checking anything in and with a sincere “Have a great time!” off we go with our boarding passes in hand…….. to the security gate.
I feel like Snow White parading through the airport hearing the WDW music when we hand off the id’s and the boarding passes and **ssscccraaaatchhhh** the music stops….”This doesn’t look like you sir… what is your name?”
Huh???? Who doesn’t look like who???? Whaaattt??? I am dazed and confused when DH says… “Oh, I shaved my face…. All of it, sorry. ” Echoes through my ears. I smile and weakly say, “Oh yeah, he did and I still haven’t gotten used to it either.” We all laugh, they let us pass and we head off to the “stripping line”. Whew, I didn’t know we had so many clothes on … after at least 8 grey buckets, we are off to the waiting room. ******Snow White song back on in my head ****** tra la la I am with my Prince and one dwarf when I hear … (my DH’s name) “Mr. first name, last name, Mr. first name, last name please return to the security area immediately.” My DH’s song must have been louder than mine because he kept walking. So, I tell him, that they are calling him and he says, “I know”. So, I ask, “Then, why are you still walking to the waiting area?” He looks at me and asks, “Do you really think they want me?” I answer, “I think so, because they are continuously paging you.” We turn back and he identifies himself and they hand over his wallet… of course they also add, “Your picture doesn’t look like you!”
We are now on our way to the waiting area and thankfully it is empty. We get choice seats!!

Next: “Mommy, why are we watching the planes again?”
