As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
This weekend I went to get gas in my car and a young kid was coming in the store all dressed up in a tux. That night I went out to dinner with friends and two couples came in dressed to the nines. It made me smile. I was not real popular in high school. My boyfriend at the time was 24 and said he was "too old" to go to the prom with me. I decided to go stag and spend some time with my friends. We had so much fun! That was almost 14 years ago TO THE DAY!
Here is a photo of my dad and I, on May 22, 1992:

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
No pictures but i had a good time at my senior prom because i went with friends. But my junior prom was nice but took me a year to live down the jokes because I wasn't asked to go by anyone and had to bring a kid my mom knew. High School wasn't my favorite time of life

Nice pic! My HS boyfriend (Morbadeus) was also older and would have attended my prom with me--afterall, we were living together (I had to leave "home" when I was 17, thank you Stepmom ) but I wasn't exactly the prom type, so no photos.

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
I never went to my prom. My friend and I were supposed to go with 2 friends of ours, but one of the guys backed out. So none of us went lol. We were not going to go nicely dressed though, we had planned on going different and dress punkish. Probably a good thing we didn't go

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
I'll have to see if I can find mine from '82, but it was a full length, white lace number. The best part was my hair, though. It was 36" long and I had been a hair model, so my stylist wanted to do something special for my prom. He did this basket weave thing across the back w/ white pipe cleaners and baby's breath in each one. My corsage was red, carnations I think b/c they were my fave. I was made fun of b/c I went w/ a sophomore, but I was a year younger than all my classmates anyway, so he was barely younger than me. We had a dreadful time (how much can you really listen to "Dream Weaver" and "It's a Long and Winding Road"???) so we left early. His dad had driven us so while we were waiting, an old drunk man came stumbling by and kept congratulating us on our marriage! It had never occured to me that my dress could very easily have been a wedding dress! We got a big laugh out of that and went back to his house to watch TV until my curfew.

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
Oh boy!!!
Well, the boys' faces have been blurred to protect the innocent! But here's mine . . .
Senior Prom -- April 30, 1994
Check out my date's shoes . . . they are high top Nikes.
I picked this dress even though I shouldn't have worn a full length dress, being that I am short and all. But I saw a picture of Niki Taylor wearing it in Seventeen magazine and HAD to have it! Oh, and we got into a BAD car accident that night and totalled my mom and dad's truck. Fun times.
My then-boyfriend's senior prom -- May 6, 1995 (the year after I had graduated)
The first pic is to show the length (of the dress and my hair!) and the second pic shows pretty much what the front looked like . . .
Interesting story and odd the prom subject came up and I dug up these pictures . . . the guy in the second picture and I dated/were engaged for a year and a half. I went in the Navy and he went in the Army, then we ended pretty badly about 10 years ago . . . exchanged some not so nice words. He just e-mailed me a couple of weeks ago out of the blue asking to be friends again after all these years! He is also heading back to Iraq again this coming weekend for another year! I will have to look for mine. You can definately tell the approximate year that is was taken by the dress I am wearing. It is horrible.

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
***DISCLAIMER***** Remember my prom was in 1980 & big Farrah Fawcett hair was so in...I asked my on again/off again boyfriend (we were off at the time) to my prom a week before the event.. he was 3 years older & already in college.. he accepted & we spent a wonderful evening together.. (we never went to his prom.. he almost didn't graduate) got my dress & everything within that week!!
before the prom in my Moms living room
Had to include this one... Check out the funky wallpaper my Mom had going up the steps behind me
the official photograph taken at the prom
I had to include this one.. "Show us all of your teeth, Ann" This was taken about 3 am in the morning (that's my excuse & I'm stickin to it )
great thread!!

Yep, our prom dinner was held in the school gym UGH!! They took us out in the hall & the photographer took our pics..I do remember it being odd he had no backdrop.. My class wasn't the brightest in putting together events. After prom was at a (then) ultra hip cool disco... which was cool..Oh gosh.. did I just say "ultra hip cool"?? and DISCO!!! I am sooooo old!!!

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
My prom picture is up in the attic and I can't get it down right now. It's pretty funny though. I wore a long light aqua bridesmaid dress and it even had a small train!!
I think I was the first person my date ever went out with. He was a friend but not a boyfriend and we agree to go to the prom together. He was so nervous he was litterally shaking the whole night!!!

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
This is the only one I have digitally from my Junior year. I need to find a picture of the infamous "snow white" prom dress --- now I need to find it and scan it!!! Talk about a Disney fix!
Now to find the others!!

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
I didn't attend my prom. A group of girls got together and went to a showing of Rocky Horror Picture show instead. So, no prom dress to show off.

Re: Time To Show Off Those Prom Dresses!
Here is one of my prom pictures. It was 1987 and I was a junior. My date was a senior. The dinner and dance was held in the ballroom of a fancy hotel downtown.
The guy's face has been blotted out - I didn't date a dementor!!
