Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Best place to see Mickey?

Just wondering what opinions are on the best place to see Mickey. We won't be doing a character meal this trip and my kids really want to see the Mouse. Anyone used the FP to see him in the Magic Kingdom? I'm looking for the shortest lines to keep everyone happy. Thanks all!

We see him at Epcot at the Disney Visa meet and greet. I have never waited more than 15 to 20 minutes at the most. But you have to have to have a Disney Visa.

We had a short line at the Art of Animation at DHS. And he was wearing his sorcerer outfit which was a bonus! Or you can try the Fab 5 at Epcot but lines are long depending on the timeof year. There's also the new M & G in MK and you can get a FP for that. You can also meet Mickey on the character trail in AK. No worries about meeting the mouse!

Don't Wait in Line to Meet Mickey Mouse!

"Debuting this spring, Disney World guests will no longer have to wait in line to meet Mickey Mouse at the Magic Kingdom. Guests will be able to get a FASTPASS ticket designating a one hour window to meet Mickey! The meet-and-greet location will be held at the Town Square Theater, located inside the Exposition Hall near the park entrance.

We tend to see him at the Disney VISA meet and greet as mentioned above.

We also head over to 'Ohana for breakfast and visit there.

Also keep in mind, as some have pointed out, which outfit you'd prefer, as you can see him in different getups in different areas of the park. HS has him in the Fantasmic wizard's cloak and hat, AK you'll get Safari Mickey, and we usually get the formally dressed Mickey when we do the MK meet and greets....my usual preferred location, and not just because a frisky Mickey grabbed me and gave me a kiss the last time we were there

Really like the idea of getting a Fastpass to see Mickey...and really, is just going to benefit Disney, since you'll be able to pass the time you'd spend in line shopping along Main St. instead

Just one note - the Disney Visa photoshoot isn't guaranteed to have Mickey. We had Minnie and Goofy when we went.

I like the Character spot at Epcot - longish line, but you get all 5 at once with just one line. I also like the sorcerer Mickey at DHS. Short line and nice outfit.

I like the AK character trails in Camp Minnie Mickey ... and I too am fond of the Sorcer Mickey at DHS. (Just a change from the same old Mickey)

I agree that Mickey is not always at the Disney Visa phootshoot. The character spot is good for getting all the characters. We are anxious to see how the new Fastpass M&G at the MK is now. We'll be there later this month to try it out.

My favorite is the Sorceror Mickey at Animation Station in HS. The line is usually short and that has always been my favorite Mickey role.

The lines at Camp Minnie-Mickey in AK can be short. The trick there is to try to time it so you get there just as the Festival of the Lion King show starts. Everyone heads in to the show and the lines thin out fairly quickly. I've also been told that that is when some of the other random characters can come out (that's how we found Thumper and Miss Bunny).

If you get to Epcot at opening the line for the Character Spot can be short and you get five characters at one time. (usually Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald).

I'm curious to hear how the FP for the new MK M&G works. With that located right at the front of the park I wonder if the FPs will disappear quickly as people come in.

I always waited to see Mickey in MK and now that they have a fast pass to meet him, it sounds like it will be much easier. The Art of Animation in DHS has Sorcerer Mickey if you'd rather see that version. And the character trails in Camp Minnie Mickey aren't too bad if you get there just after the start of Festival of the Lion King. The other good place to see Mickey and his friends is at the Epcot Character Stop. Do it first thing in the morning and the waits aren't too bad.

Animal Kingdom is a great spot if you go to Camp Minnie Mickey first thing. We were the very first family to see Mickey and he came out and took DD by the hand and walked her to the meet n greet area! So cool! I don't think they come out til 9:30 though. We did all the meet n greets and at that time of the morning, it was pretty much dead. Also, the Character Connection at Epcot is really nice...try to get in line early so the wait isn't too bad.

We've had good luck at the Epcot Character Spot during evening EMH. We've done it three times, and the waits were about 10=15 minutes inside!

Thanks for all the great info!! I'm thinking we'll try the Character Spot in Epcot - my kids will be excited to see so many characters in addition to Mickey! I'm eager to hear people's experience with the FP in MK though - sounds like a great idea!

We love the AK greeting area for Mickey. Even though the line looks really long, they're great about getting every through really quickly. I think the longest we've waiting is maybe 15 minutes and that was when we were at the end (right at the entrance of the line).
