As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Adventureland and young children
On our two trips to The World, I haven't even made it into Adventureland at all, except to buy a Dole Whip. I Swiss Family Treehouse, Tom Sawyer Island, Pirates and Tikki Room all on my list for our next trip. But none of those are on the list of attractions geared toward young children, though it seems like my 3 and 5-year-olds DDs would enjoy them. Anyone with girls these ages venture away from Fantasyland? Should we not worry about these attractions now or are they worth doing? I just have this desire to say I've tried it all.

Re: Adventureland and young children
My 3 yr old DD loves Adventureland. The first time she rode pirates she was a bit wary of the waterfall (as I had warned her about it) but it didn't really "scare" her (and she rode the ride at Disneyland the first time which has 2 drops)but she is a daredevil and would ride space mountain if she were tall enough! The Tiki room can be a bit loud sometimes but not really "scary". She enjoys the jungle cruise as well. She thought the Swiss Family tree house was fun too! I think if you discuss the rides/attractions beforehand with your kids they will probably adjust fine to the new rides.

Re: Adventureland and young children
I think they would love everything except maybe Pirates. It totally depends on the child, though. I took my 5 year old on it last year and he cried and his in my coat the whole time - I didn't even get to see most of the ride b/c I was consoling him the whole time!

Re: Adventureland and young children
I have taken my girls on Pirates as young as 2 and they have all enjoyed it (or at least not cried through it!) DD#3 was 2 when we went last time and she was fascinated. DD#2 was 4 and she was a little concerned about it at first but she loved it too and wanted to get right back on it again. My kids are pretty adventurous, DD#3 insists that she wants to ride TOT in November, we'll see what happens when we get there. I think your girls will be all right as long as you prepare them for what to expect. The rest of Adventureland besides Pirates is pretty tame and shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Adventureland and young children
We've taken our kids on Aladdin's Carpets, Jungle Cruise, Pirates (although DD doesn't like this one) and the Tiki birds (which they both love). I'd definitely give them a try The kids are almost 6 and 3 now, but were 4 and 15 months when we started

Re: Adventureland and young children
Adventureland it is, then! When we first went, my little one was 13 months and she buried her head in my shoulder for everything, even Pooh and Peter Pan! In November, she was not quite 2 1/2 and did much better, even riding the haunted mansion without hiding. So I think she'll be ok. My 5-year-old I'm not worried about at all. She wanted to do TOT and bailed when she and DH got to the first lobby, but she kept saying she wanted to go back. Thanks for all the feedback, that really helped.
P.S. I always like looking at the pictures, but especially so on this post. Ya'll were talking about them and what they like to do, and there they were! I wish I could figure out how to get my pic on here.

Re: Adventureland and young children
The Tiki Room is absolutely perfect for little ones.
Aladdin's Carpets and Jungle Cruise are well within the limits of smaller children, and Pirates is fine, nothing too scary. If your children are intimidated by darkness or don't like "mean people", Pirates may be a little difficult to explain to them.

Re: Adventureland and young children
DD loved Adventure Land when she was little. We started taking her to Disney World when she was about a year old. She has always been very adventurous. We took DN on the Haunted Mansion at 2yrs. and she waved to all the ghosts. DN hated all the movies at all the parks and the old movie at Imagination scared her. I think it was called Magic Journies. It depends on the child.

Re: Adventureland and young children
I think that Adventureland has much to offer the smaller contingent. As others have said, the Carpets, Jungle Cruise, and Tiki Birds are all good rides. Also, even if you don't think they would like Pirates (but why wouldn't they?), they might enjoy a stroll through the gift shop. It has all sorts of cool pirate stuff. DW says that girls love pirates...who knew?
BUT.....the most important and MAGICAL aspect of Advenureland is the one I rarely if ever see mentioned on these boards. The Citrus Swirl, served only at the Sunshine Tree Terrace. Forget the Dole Whip ladies and gents. The real action is the Swirl!!!
On a side note, do you know that the Disney created Florida Orange Bird was the original mascot of the Sunshine Tree Terrace. His job was to make the swirls magical.

Re: Adventureland and young children
I also give Adventureland a thumbs up The adults in our family love Adventureland so we end up spending a lot of time there. DD was 14 months and 24 months on the last two trips and really enjoyed Aladdin's carpets (still talks about those spittin' camels!) Tiki Birds, meeting Aladdin & Genie, etc. POC she has love/hate relationship with - she really really wants to go on and has been on 3 or 4 times, but she doesn't like the booming voice in the dark at the beginning of the ride. On our next trip I want to take her on Swiss Family Treehouse as she's just seen the movie. Have fun!!

Re: Adventureland and young children
My son who was 3 on our last trip didn't even make it into the building on Pirates, but he was pretty timid on any indoor attractions. My daughter loved it at that age. I would definitely hit adventureland. My kids have loved the Swiss family treehouse, jungle cruise, aladdin's carpets and tiki birds. We tried Tom Sawyer's on our last trip and they loved that also. (they were 3 and 6 on last trip). You will have a great time in Adventureland!

Re: Adventureland and young children
My kids were 2 and 5 the first time we took them to WDW. They loved Adventureland. The Treehouse is traditionally the first thing we do at MK. They really loved it when they were younger, but I think it's losing it's magic now that they are 8 and 12.
The Jungle Cruise is alot of fun because it's so not real and the boat captain tells some corny jokes.
The Magic Carpet will probably be very exciting for your little ones. It's basically Dumbo, but you're riding a flying carpet instead of an elephant.
I will say that Pirates was a bit scary for my little 2 year old, but if your kids have been in the Snow White ride, they should be okay if you just explain it all to them.
The Tiki Room is fun and the kids should enjoy it.

Re: Adventureland and young children
My daughter just turned 4 . . . she's been 4 times now since 12/03 --- she was just under 3 on her first trip, the next trip she was 3 1/2, the next she was just under 4 and this most recent trip was the week of her 4th birthday. She LOVES Adventureland!!!
The first thing she asks to to is The Magic Carpets of Aladdin . . . she also really likes Jungle Cruise and the Enchanted Tiki Room. She likes Pirates of the Caribbean, but sometimes gets a little apprehensive about the drop, but after that's over, she is clapping and singing like it's nobody's business!!! We have yet to do the Swiss Family Treehouse with her, but it is always on our list . . . and I am sure she would like it (me and my fear of heights is another story!!! )
Aladdin, Genie and Jasmine do meet and greets near Aloha Isle (where you get Dole Whips) and Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee are usually out near Pirates (near Frontierland) . . .
Speaking of Frontierland . . . Tom Sawyer Island is one of those love/hate things for DD! She likes to wander around and to bounce on the bridges (DO NOT bounce on the barrel bridge!!! ) but she doesn't like the caves . . . and I really don't either!!! Too dark, too close of quarters and spooky noises! As long as we were outside, she was fine!!!
