Talk To Me About... [Sept travel and ressie questions] - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Talk To Me About... [Sept travel and ressie questions]
Hello boards! Been a while! Okay here's the situation- myself and my 4 year old are booked for Sept. 26th-30th with the Kids Stay and Play Free Package (hubby is starting a new job and vacation is questionable). I convinced my parents to join us and they are booked with the room discount package. Here are my questions/concerns:
1. What are crowds like during this time? We went last Oct during Columbus Week and crowds weren't too bad, but did hit a few long waits.
2. My mom uses a scooter because of her MS- any trouble using the scooter in the park, ride lines, etc? She is able to walk short distances if she needed to get on a ride but she can't stand in a long line.
3. We may have to take my then 8 month old as well, depending on hubby's work situation, sitter, etc. Any tips? That thought scares me to death but at least my parents would be there to help
4. If hubby could get off, can I add him to the package even if the "book by" dates are past since I am already booked? I know he would be full price with the package I am on but we still come out ahead of the room discount.
5. We will be staying at Pop for the first time- have heard good things. Any advice on buildings there?

Ok I will answer what I know as best I can!
1. I went last year end of September to first couple days of October. Having only ever gone in the summer before that the crowds were wonderful when comparing it. The big rides still had lines (TSMM was still crazy crowded) however most of the other ones were do able. I remember in EPCOT simply walking onto the Nemo ride where as the year before in June we had to actually WAIT in the huge que. Walking through is much more fun then waiting through it.) In general I was very happy with the crowd levels and so was my DH.
2. While I do not have anyone in my party with scooter needs I can say seeing people with them there did not seem to be a problem. Although hopefully someone with personal experience can chime in.
3. Can't help here either! Although I have heard good things in other peoples TR.
4. I believe you still should be able to add people to the room even if you are already booked. I know for DVC that is the case. I would assume the same goes now since he would not be taking part in the deal (since you said its about the kids staying and playing for free).
5. I cannot comment on pop either but I am sure you will love it.
1. What are crowds like during this time? We went last Oct during Columbus Week and crowds weren't too bad, but did hit a few long waits.
This is typically a very low-crowd season -- maybe even the lowest. The trade-off is that park hours will be very short, so make the most of your touring and get up early to be at the parks at opening. Plan on doing your swimming in the evenings...
2. My mom uses a scooter because of her MS- any trouble using the scooter in the park, ride lines, etc? She is able to walk short distances if she needed to get on a ride but she can't stand in a long line.
Since she can walk short distances, she'll be able to transfer into the vehicles themselves. You may want to stop at a Guest Services and get a Guest Assistance Card for her. Show that to the Cast Member manning the entrance to the lines and ask how best to handle that attraction with the scooter. (In some cases, they have you park it or enter through an alternate entrance. Sometimes you can drive the scooter practically right up to the loading area. That's why I think it best to ask the CM.)
3. We may have to take my then 8 month old as well, depending on hubby's work situation, sitter, etc. Any tips? That thought scares me to death but at least my parents would be there to help
For the value resorts, I think you have to request a pack-n-play. I'm sure someone can confirm that. I'd recommend that you bring your most comfortable stroller along, as the baby will need a place to nap and a comfy place to 'ride.'
4. If hubby could get off, can I add him to the package even if the "book by" dates are past since I am already booked? I know he would be full price with the package I am on but we still come out ahead of the room discount.
Usually, there is no problem adding a person to an already booked package, even if you're past the '45-days from check-in' point. (In that case, you would have to pay for any additional charges for the addition at the time you call and add him.) I'm guessing you're in two rooms, so you won't have to pay an "extra adult charge" for him to be added to your room.
5. We will be staying at Pop for the first time- have heard good things. Any advice on buildings there?
My thing is always to request a room close to the main building. Pop can be a little spread out for some people.
3. We may have to take my then 8 month old as well, depending on hubby's work situation, sitter, etc. Any tips? That thought scares me to death but at least my parents would be there to help Disney is great with even the smallest of babies. Hotel - ask for a pack-n-play or bed rail (if you co-sleep). Bring your stroller (He/She knows it) get a Ray shade from Toysr'us It creates a safe bubble. and lots of shade (pic of it on a stroller) it can be pulled down for more shade. Spray sunblock (easier to cover a wiggly kiddo) (don't forget the tops of feet) KID swap is your friend. You get to ride while mom(DH) stays with baby then they get a pass that sends them in the fast pass line.
5. We will be staying at Pop for the first time- have heard good things. Any advice on buildings there? I love building 9 (80's) it's next to the computer pool and literally 3 min from the buses and a few more steps to the food ( and that was with my little ones walking.) My next building choice would be 10 (70's) When you request I would state it like this " I politely request building 9 or 10 in a room facing the playground area non-ground floor. Thank you for your time and consideration, sincerely."
Sept is awesome! Thats when we always go Consider the Halloween Party cause its well worth the extra money you feel asthough u have the MK to yourself! My dad uses a wheelchair and we never had a problem. Request a handicap accesible room on the bottom foor near the main building to make your life alot easier. And as far as adding another person to the ressie Disney is always willing to upgrade now if you downgrade thats a problem. And as far as daycare is concerened I've heard nothing but good things about the program at the Polynesian.
We added my husband 2 months after our free dining book by date, so you should be good, just keep in mind if it is within the 45 days like stated above.
And 5
I agree Pop can be laid out for some, when we travel with the "grandparents" we always stay ina preferred room. The short distance is worth the extra $10 per night for them
