As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm not sure if this has been posted as of yet as I saw it on another Disney forum. If it has, please delete. Also, if it's in the wrong section, please feel free to move it to another. I saw this story had aired on one of the local Orlando TV stations and wanted to share.
This is really disturbing for a couple of reasons. We were there this past week when this video was shot and walked through AofA one day and talked about possibly eating there. Also, we're staying there on our November trip.

From the article: "Disney officials said the woman in the video is not a cast member, but works for a third-party vendor and she is no longer welcome on Disney property."
Well here's an idea for Disney, then: stop outsourcing jobs in your resorts and parks. Good grief. >_<
Not good but that could happen at any restaurant or fast food chain. And customers can be just as bad. I saw a woman change an infant's diaper on a table in a McDonald's once. It could easily have been a Disney employee instead of a vendor's employee. That sort of behavior imho comes from any number of sources including not caring, laziness, not knowing better, improper training etc.

Yikes! Although I agree that it could happen in any food place. My biggest bug-bear is seeing parents let their kids sit on tables in restaurants - excuse me, your kid is putting his/her bum on a surface I am about to eat my dinner off!! Grrrr.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing can happen anywhere. That's why I cringe when I see parents putting food directly on a tabletop for an infant or toddler. I even carry a piece of clean newspaper with me to the mall when I take my now adult son so we can cover the food court table if he wants a fast food stop. So disturbing, no question, but hopefully Disney is on top of it.
What I want to know is why the guy videoing it didn't report it right away to someone. Why did he wait and then email Disney? I personally would have reported then and there.

The article mentions that the resort manager comp'd the guy's hotel stay, so I'm guessing he did report it immediately. However, he apparently also followed up with e-mails as well.

ok now am freaking out...this is NOT acceptable and if it is done at one and they (meaning Disney) has the same company for ALL the resorts this needs to be really looked at and addressed...ASAP. However, I agree if I had seen that and taped it I would marched my fanny to the powers to be at the resort and follow up with letters to Disney corporate office...free room doesn't make this ok.
Unfortunately this can and will happen anywhere. And is yet another reason to always cary wet wipes to wipe down surfaces before using them and stay up to date one vaccines. especially Hepatitis A in this case!
I know this kinda thing probably happens more than we realize, and that's why it's so important to carry wet wipes/hand sanitizer. I use that stuff just about every few minutes and especially before meals.
Actually, no, it's not important to carry wet wipes and hand sanitizer everywhere and use them unless you or a family member has been advised by a doctor to do so. Washing your hands with plain soap and water before eating and not eating food you dropped on the table are reasonable enough precautions for those who've not been specifically advised to be extra cautious.
Overuse of disinfectants only encourages disease-causing agents to develop increased resistance, making disinfectants less and less effective. Not a desirable situation at all and one we create by excessive cleanliness.
Besides, we need some exposure to germs to give our immune systems enough work on a daily basis that they'll be strong enough when needed to combat the dangerous bugs.
So much use of disinfectant wipes is likely causing more harm than good.

That is a common, but erroneous, belief. Microbes can develop resistance to antibiotics due to overuse. Drugs like Amoxicillin work by inhibiting bacterial cell wall formation in the replication of the next generation. Those that survive (often due to discontinuing the course too early) can then become resistant to that drug in the future.
Alcohol based sanitizers like Purell or disinfectants like bleach work by direct killing action on the microbes that are already present. They do not contribute to formation of resistant strains.
I agree with you Dot about the overuse of sanitizers. I also think that Disney needs to address the issue. If they cannot insure their contractor are training and supervising people well, then they should hire their own staff.
I think sometimes we forget Disney is not exempt from poor employees, I would hope the offending person was fired. To me, there was no excuse for the behavior.

I agree with you up to the point of Disney's being capable of insuring that contractors are properly training their employees. No company, hotelier, or any other entity can be confident that contractors are doing so as thoroughly as Disney and we desire and expect. As with most human relations, trusting that people take their training seriously and that their employers train and supervise them adequately will always be somewhat a gamble. For the most part, we rely upon hope and trust that instances like this are rare and are usually not wrong in doing so.
We know nothing about this employee other than what little we observe in this brief and perhaps heavily edited video, so I disagree that termination is obviously warranted. There could be any number of explanations that might absolve the employee from blame we assign out of anger, fear, ignorance and distance. We are ill-advised to speculate about causes, IMO.
