Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Borgata in Atlantic City?
Has anyone ever been there, can you recommend any good restaurants?? Was the hotel nice. I've never been to a casino (not really my style), but we're going for a concert, and its around our anniversary-- so we decided to stay the weekend.

Re: Borgata in Atlantic City?
Dina,
I haven't been there, yet. But, we head to AC a lot for just a mini-get away, and I've only heard great things about it. I understand that it's pricey and the way it's been described to me, it's trying to be hip and trendy like the Palms in Vegas.
I can't tell you which restaurants to try there, but I have eaten at most places in both Caesars and Ballys - and have enjoyed all! There's also a Rainforest Cafe in Trump (the one next to Caesars). Let me know if you have any questions about those other places.

Re: Borgata in Atlantic City?
The Borgata is very nice, and only a little pricier than some of the boardwalk casinos. They have a few restaurants in there that are very good. We're going to see JOURNEY there on Labor Day weekend and the standard room is actually cheaper than a standard room at Caesar's that weekend.... not that $400 for a room is cheap, but Caesar's is asking $425....
What concert are you going to see, Dina?

Re: Borgata in Atlantic City?
OOh I love Journey!!! That should be a great concert! Have a great time!! Is Steve Perry back with them?
We're going to see Rob Thomas. I don't usually travel so far for concerts, but I never miss Rob or Matchbox Twenty-- except for the day I gave birth to Danny on the morning of a matchbox twenty concert-- I had to miss that one hehehe!!! I'm Robsessed!!! This will be the 4th time I've seen him this year alone (including Live 8)-- my husband is a Saint!!
Thanks Rob and Tanya!! I'm really excited about the Borgata. Joe saw pictures and says it reminds him of Vegas a bit- I've never been to Vegas or Atlantic City, so I'm looking forward to playing slot machines for the first time!!
Thanks, Again!!

No, but a look-and-sound alike, Steve Augeri, has been touring with them for the past 7 years. I've seen both Steves in concert, and Augeri is a very good replacement.
Hope you enjoy your show! I saw Rob Thomas at Live8 (weren't you there too?) and enjoyed his set.

Re: Borgata in Atlantic City?
AC is about 1/2 an hour from us, so we go enough. But we haven't stayed at the Borgata or many of the hotels for that matter. But, what I will say is that there is a lot of great things being said for the restaurants in The Quarter which is inside the Tropicana http://www.tropicana.net/dining/index.htm
I have heard great things about Carmine's, PF Chang's and Cuba Libre. I don't have any first hand experience and hear that you need ressies well ahead of time. But they are supposedly amazing.
Oh! and I should have said that you can grab a cab outside any hotel/casino lobby to the other casino's relatively cheaply. If you aren't comfortable driving.

Re: Borgata in Atlantic City?
I love the Borgata! You feel more like you are in Vegas than AC. We love their buffet, but my favorite thing is the Dale Chihuly glass that is all over! It is worth a trip just to see his glass! Here is a link to his website, in case you don't know about him. He has installations of glass all over the world www.chihuly.com

I love the Trop and the new Quarter is great. I have eaten at Carmines, The Palm and Ri-Ra. They are all fantastic.
As a matter of fact I will be there 8/29-8/31

It came to $192.50 for 2 tix, but that's only for Borgata, most shows are closer to $100 a pair. Right now the tickets have only been released to the Matchbox Twenty/Rob Thomas Fanclub-- and you can only buy them in sets of two. But, the fanclub seats have sold out for Borgata, though most others are still available (you can join the fanclub and buy tickets at the same time, pm me if you are interested, I can look up the website info for you). But, they aren't on sale yet to the General Public. There is an internet presale this morning at 10am on Ticketmaster for alot of shows. I'm trying this morning for Philadelphia show which haven't been released to fanclub yet. He's doing a national tour-- you'll need a code to buy tickets during the interent presale on Ticketmaster.com (the code is ROBVH1).

Thanks Dina! That is pretty expensive, I don't think I can afford anymore concerts this year! I was looking for that VH1 code but didn't find it, I'll have to see if I can find the money, thanks again!!
