As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Have you ever..?
Have you ever seen anyone from your hometown in Disney? I was in Chef Mickey's on Halloween, and I look up and there's a women from home. I don't know her name but our paths cross frequently and we are familiar. So we both say hi and then continue to load our plates. We look up at the same time and start laughing. I said 'for a minute I thought I was in Burger King or something'.It turns out our children were sharing the same b-day and they were also celebrating. It's funny I HAVEN'T seen her since.
My DH also saw one of his customers at FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING!!

Re: Have you ever..?
One time we were in MGM and I said to my DH "That lady looks just like Cindy" He says "No Duh - it is - see the rest of the family there."
We've also run into several other people we've known but that one was the most memorable.

Re: Have you ever..?
Last trip I was in the gift shop at the Contemporary, and I heard a guy complaining to his children that the toys they had picked were too expensive and to pick something different. I turned to look and I was staring at one of my company's clients. When he comes to the shop we still laugh about it.

Re: Have you ever..?
One trip I ran into my boss (the sheriff), and 3 other law enforcement folks from here, as well as a couple of people I used to work with when I was in the Air Force.
On another trip, I ran into another co-worker from 20 years ago...
Last trip we met a few families from the local area, we didn't know them before but we do now...
And I always seem to be running into fire and medical personnel from the area...
Ya never know who you'll run into at WDW

Re: Have you ever..?
Yep, we have a family that always flies to Disney every December (about 10 total) They flew down on our airline and got upgraded to AKL (this was 2001 when CBR was being renovated still). Kylor and I left a few days later for AKL and I saw the mom walking through the Mara and said 'hi'

Re: Have you ever..?
I have sort of seen people from home. My dad saw people from home, but my encounter was a bit more...odd. I have recently moved back to a town I had lived in for awhile in Minnesota from Wisconsin. After about a year of not seeing anyone from Wisconsin, I was walking down the hall of All Star Music when a really good friend of mine turned around and was like...Elisa..OMG!!! Well...that was really COOL, but ODD! They were on their band trip, which I was supposed to go on, but moved, but still got to kinda go on Lol!

Re: Have you ever..?
Yep...Last year we were at Downtown Disney in the World of Disney Store. Me and this lady were looking at postcards when all of a sudden we looked at each other and I realized that is was my Pharmacist from Walgreens!! It was so funny cuz we both kinda stood there wondering what the other one was doing at WDW!!!! I had just been in to Walgreens the day before to pick up my prescription and she had said "Have a nice weekend!!!"

Re: Have you ever..?
Two summers ago we ran into the manager of our local Toy's R Us. Last year a teacher/coworker and his family were AK when we were. Then at the pool and resort I ran into 2 former students, one I hadn't seen since she graduated. In line I ran into some people from my hometown and the husband turned out to be the former roommate of our football coach. My DD always reminds us that "it is a small world after all."

Re: Have you ever..?
We haven't been toDisney enough for this to happen, but I love when it happens at other places! I took sign language for the first halfof the school year and my teacher was training a new ASL teacher, and I saw her at the Cher concert a few weeks ago - she was about 2 rows ahead of us, lmao! I've also run into family while we were at other family member's houses in NJ and we decided to go to Walmart - what are the odds, lol!

Re: Have you ever..?
Never ran into someone that I knew but I have a pretty similar and funny story.....
In Nov 2001 I went to WDW for 5 days for work as a travel agent touring all of the hotels and parks. I was alone on night in the MK and took a seat facing the castle on the curb of the hub to watch the fireworks show (forget the name but the one before Wishes) I sat there watching the castle change colors, loving being by myself, this was my second time there ever and the last time I was just a kid. It turned out that I was sitting way to close for a really good view of the fireworks, but I didn't have the passporters back then to give me all the wonderful hints that they do.
Anyway, there was a family sitting next to me on my left, with a girl aprrox. 5 right next to me then the mother and father and then a son approx. 8 yrs old. I noticed they were British (as alot of people in WDW seem to be in Nov) and being the friendly sort, I struck up a conversation with the Mom and Dad about how much fun there adorable kids seemed to be having. They told me they were from England and then mentioned the name of the county that they lived in. We talked for a few minutes more and I then went back to watching the castle change hues. About 15 minutes went by and the people on my right got up to move to another location, and another family sat down. The mother of this family sat right next to me and her son about 8 and her daughter about 10, sat next and then the father and another woman who I think was the grandmother. As she sat down she politely asked if anyone was sitting in the space. I said no and noticed that they too had British accents. I asked where they were from and they said the name of another county in England (can't remember which, but it was different from the county the first family was from) I said jokingly that this family next to me was from England also and motioned to them as I asked if since it is a small country did they know each other. She laughed as she glanced past me at the other family and started to say no, when her son who had also heard me stood up and looked over too. Well all of a sudden the first woman on my left sceamed out the little boy's name and called to HER son to look at who was here. As it turned out the two boys had gone to school together the year before, but the second family had moved at the end of that school year. The two boys and the mother to my left were the only ones who knew each other, since she had worked at the school. and they were within two to three people of each other in the twilight of a Disney evening and amid the crowds and the excitement they wouldn't have even had seen each other, if not for a wise-guy travel agent making a pretty lame joke about the size of their country. Pretty bizarre huh. LMAO.

When we took DS to WDW when he was in kindergarten, we ran into his kindergarten teacher there. Neither Stephen nor his teacher seemed too excited to see each other!!

Re: Have you ever..?
We have never seen anyone we know in all our trips, until our trip in March -- then we saw two different people at Epcot. I noticed a young woman walking towards us who had a cute "dance" jacket. As I started to point out the jacket to my DD, I looked at the lady's face -- turns out she was one of the student-instructors from DDs dance school.
Then one night while we were waiting for our PS at Rose and Crown, we were wandering around the UK and I saw a CM that used to work at our local Disney Store. Turns out she had transferred to WDW when she found out the Disney Store was being sold. She's the manager of the shops at the UK and Canada now. Her husband got a job at one of the resorts.
