Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Washington DC - 75 Mickey\'s

The 75 Mikceys web page are in DC and I was thinking of going down for a couple days to check it out. I know it would only take a couple hours at best but I'm not driving 3 1/2 hours and back all in 1 day. SO the question is where should we stay and what else is good to do with a 4 1/2 year old and 1 year old. DS is big into dinosaurs and trains. The Mickey's are there until April 30th - for some reason I keep thinking that something else is in DC in April.

Re: Washington DC - 75 Mickey\'s

When we went to DC in 1999, we stayed at the Hilton Arlington & Towers. The Ballston Metro station was right underneath the hotel and it was connected to the Ballston Common Mall. It was super convenient having the Metro right there so all we had to do was hop on in the morning and take it wherever we were headed for the day . . . we also didn't have to walk far when we came back after walking all day!

The rooms were REALLY nice . . . and not the biggest but certainly not small! The bad thing is that they are a AAA Three-Diamond hotel, so their room rates are not cheap!!! I think the lowest I saw recently was $199/night and as high as $250! We found it on a "cheap hotels" type website back in '99 for $83 for one of the NICEST rooms!!! INFLATION! We were thinking about going back up to DC again and staying there, but we've put that trip on the back burner!

Did you PM Joan? She lives in the Annapolis, MD area (she's not too very far from DC - maybe 30 miles?) . . . maybe she knows something . . .

I don't know anything about DC, but that sounds like a great time and a REALLY great reason to go in the first place

I can't use the link, what is the 75 Mickeys???
We have stayed at the Hyatt and Lowe's L'Enfant Plaza and both were great, not cheap, but very centrally located.

Thank you, I certainly wouldn't mind catching a glimpse of that either, maybe I could talk DH into a road trip.

I so want to plan a road trip! Crystal, with kids your age, you might want to check out the zoo. Also, the Musuem of Natural History should have dinosaur stuff that would interest your son.

I have been meaning to get back to DC - it's been too long since my college days there. This just might give me reason to get there!

How could I have missed this thread????

Cherry Blossom Festival is just about here too! Come on down, I'll come in and meet you all!

Hotels in DC are pricey and can be in a high crime area if you aren't careful. Hotels in the Virginia suburbs are a little easier, as many in Arlington are on the metro routes.

Sarah was right, I'm about 20 miles east of DC and 5 miles east of Annapolis. I commuted downtown to DC both from Maryland and Virginia for many years. I even drove a vanpool for a while!

We are thinking Aprl 12 - 14. Haven't quite decided on a hotel yet. I think its gonna end up being my mom, the 2 kidlets and me. We would love to get together with you! Mom was asking how far Potomac Mills was from DC. Isn't that just shopping? Like the Franklin Mills?

Re: Washington DC - 75 Mickey\'s

Potomac Mills is about another 20 miles south of DC in Woodbridge, Virginia. I personally think it's become "skanky" mall and not worth the ride. It has Ikea and a few other large stores, but not enough to make me cross the Potomac and drive on I95.

I think the Cherry Blossom Festival is through April 10, but they might still be in bloom. Let me know as your plans firm up!

I looked at the official Cherry Blossom web site and the festival is thru the 10th. They said the "peak bloom" will be from April 4-9. If we go on the 12th, will they still be in bloom?? they don't go away that fast, do they??
My mom is away on business right now in China and won't be back until the 6th. She figured until she gets herself back on track after all that time changing (12 hours difference from China to here) that the 12-14 will be good. I'll tell her what you said about the Potomac Mills - that is what i thought - Franklin Mills was nice at first now it is gross.

Re: Washington DC - 75 Mickey\'s

Potomac Mills is in Prince William County, Va. It is a good 35-45 minute drive straight down 95. It is owned by the same company as Franklin Mills. I live about 13 miles south of it now. Used to live right down the street. I have also lived near Franklin Mills but that was about 15 years ago. I am sure it has changed alot but comparing what it was back then--late 80's/early 90's, I think Franklin is better.

Re: Washington DC - 75 Mickey\'s

Hi there,
We live in the Washington, DC metro area, about 15 minutes from DC. We just took DS (3.5 years old) and DD (1 years old) to the 75 Mickeys. They both loved it! DS loved the airplane Mickey. You'll definitely still be able to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms.
Also, I would stay in DC, rather than Virginia (JMHO). The metro is great, but it can be cumbersome with 2 kids and a stroller. I've done it, but it isn't always fun!
Sorry to reply so late! PM me if you need more info. I'd be happy to help.

We went to DC last weekend to see the Cherry Blossoms, and just happened to come across 'Mickey Mouse'. It was the hi-light for me!
