As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

What kind of insect repellant do you use on your children?
I've read alot of warnings that you should be sure to use bug repellant in Florida. We live in PA, and I rarely have my kids out at night in the summer, so have really never had to worry about it. I don't know what kind of spray to get (deet or something deet free). I have a 4yo and a 1yo, and I know DEET is effective, but wondering if its really safe. Some people swear by the Skin So Soft Bug Guard, but I didn't know if that was safe either. Just wondering what everyone else uses. Thanks!!

Ok, I'm certainly no expert but I've heard that Disney REALLY keeps the bugs away. Also, I used to sell the Skin So Soft and it NEVER worked, also Avon's actual bug repellent never worked either for us. We were a feast on one fishing trip, it was AWFUL. As for what to use, I couldn't help you, but I'm sure someone will give you a good answer. I just don't remember being pestered ONE bit with bugs while there.

I use the Off Family Repellent here with deet in it - around 9 percent I think. The natural type repellents don't seem to work on my Jennie. I've never needed it at Disney though, and Jennie is a bug magnet - she always gets bitten. I have heard that the bugs at AK/AKL can be bad during the summer (see Cheryl's latest trip report!), but we've stayed at the AKL twice now, in November and December, and never had any bug trouble at all.

The Floride department of health recommends the 24% DEET formula to avoid mosquitos and west nile virus. If you plan to be out at either daawn or dusk between late spring and mid-fall --- you should be using bug spray. Disney sprays - but you should too.
I buy Deep Woods Off in the large can at Costco and I never get bit when I am out doors.

I found this new cream made by OFF it's called Botanicals. I have a 4 yr old as well and the cream tends not to be as tacky as the spray, it goes on easier as sometimes the spray mist flies in the air. I find it easier to apply and it works great!

We use skin so soft by Avon or Off bug spray. I too was concerned about what would be safe and have been reading some articles. The recent articles in the children's magazines say generally everything is safe but to avoid bug repellent in spf sun protection. The reasons for this...according to the article...is that you need considerably more spf to protect from the sun than you need bug repellent, thus, your body could be absorbing unnecessary amounts of the bug stuff. I tend to use the spray and spray shoes and socks very well to avoid alot on skin, then just mist legs and arms a little.

Thanks so much for your info. I read that you can spray clothes. So I thought (especially for 15 mth old) I'd get the OFF Family (with just 4.5% DEET) and spray clothes, shoes and socks then (exactly what you said) just a little on arms and legs. Thanks so much!!! Also thanks DrDolphin for the info on the Florida Recommendation. Unfortunately children under 2 can only have under 10% DEET, so I'll have to go with the OFF Family. Thanks everyone!!

I use cintrenella (I know I spelled it wrong) bracelets.
Target sometimes has them, and I have found them at Galyan's.
I think you have a Dick's sporting goods?
Also, Off has a family spray with DEET, just not as much. I prefer the possibility of some sort of minor problem with DEET over the real possibility of West Nile. (bird with it found in our immediate area)

last year we went in sept. and never got bitten once. we were out till 11ish every night with our kids (3,7,8, and 9yrs old) without any type of bug protection at all. only bugs we saw were lovebugs. ugh. lol

We don't generally use bug protection, but for a recent camping trip I found Family Off wipes. The were really easy to use, my DD's could put it on themselves. And it only had a slight smell. My DS and I have really sensitive skin, and we weren't bothered by the formula.
