Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Omg, omg. We\'re doing it. Woof!

We're FINALLY getting another dog.

Some of you may remember, Jordie and I lost our beloved chow/shar-pei about a year and a half ago. It was so awful. We still cry over her. I couldn't walk by the pet supply aisle at the grocery store without crying. Anyway, I decided last summer to get another dog and I was going to get another chow. We even asked CMs at China in Epcot (chows and shar-peis are Chinese dogs) for name suggestions and got some cute ones. Well, it didn't happen. Jordie could not bear to get another dog that looked the least bit like Betsy. So. After months of research, we decided on... a boxer. We didn't want a puppy and liked the idea of rescuing a dog. I contacted Lone Star Boxer Rescue, filled out the application and they came for our home visit yesterday. We passed. They have several dogs in foster families but more at a kennel owned by the woman that runs LSBR. We went to the kennel (on the other side of Houston today) We fell in LOVE with this dog this afternoon. http://www.lonestarboxerrescue.com/boxers/2004/dolly/

She is very sweet, affectionate and laid back. She also walks well on a leash and when I stopped walking and said "Sit", she did!
She's spayed, microchipped, and... here's the bad part... heartworm positive. She begins treatment on Tuesday or Wednesday. We can bring her home, though, and just keep her very still and quiet for a month. It won't be difficult because there are no little kids here and no other pets. Oh, she also had surgery (a doggie boob job, as it were ) to correct a little bit of a "gravity" problem she was having after nursing a couple of litters. You'll see the before pics in the link. She is now nice and neat and nipped and tucked.

What do you think? Have any of you ever rescued an adult dog in this manner?

She was rescued at a shelter and they've been calling her "Dolly" but that's not really her name and we don't really like it so we've come up with a few ideas. They often recommend that with rescued dogs you name them something new, as oftentimes their old names are a reminder of a bad life. Anyway, here's what we've come up with.

Holly
Layla (after Mohammed Ali's daughter, who is a human boxer, errr....someone that boxes as a sport, not a dog. Okay.)
Laika (after the first Russian dog in space)
and these German names (boxers are German in origin)
Ella
Astrid
Jana
Simone

What do y'all think? Help me with a name! I'm so excited!!!

She's a cutie and trained to boot. I like Holly. It could lead to cute nicknames like Holly-wood if you can get her to pose in sunglasses.

What a cutie! We rescued our dog from the pound but nothing as severe as yours. I like Holly. Short and sweet and easy to call. Or Ella. Or since you were thinking of a chow you could name her China and then be the best of both.

Re: Omg, omg. We\'re doing it. Woof!

Best wishes and congratulations on your new family member!

I am a member of the American Boxer Rescue Association and we foster boxers for a rescue group here in Alabama. Last year, DH and I fostered 21 dogs and 18 of them were placed in loving families in three states.

Currently, we have two rescue girls ... one fawn, one brindle ... and one rescue boy, fawn with cropped ears. The boy was HW + when he came in and we, of course, did the treatments. Two of our other fosters from last year also underwent the procedure. It is disheartening to watch. They are often sick when they first are treated and lethargic but they do bounce back fairly fast. Keeping a dog that wants to be active (most boxers are) quiet is difficult but essential to their treatment. Your next couple of months are going to be kind of hard. Also, do not be alarmed if she starts to cough or foam a bit during treatment and even the first few weeks after she comes back clear ... it's normal.

I've been active in show dogs (boxers & other breeds) literally ALL of my life. My mom was Best Jr handler at Westminster in the 50's, my Dad was once a VP at the AKC (now retired), and I have an aunt who is a vet. If you have ANY questions or concerns about your rescue boxer, please Email me privately. I'm more than glad to help or listen!

Boxers are a wonderful breed. Rescue is a GREAT way to get a dog. You get a purebred dog but you also save a life!

Until there are none, Rescue One!

Re: Omg, omg. We\'re doing it. Woof!

Congratulations on your new addition! I like Laika or Layla personally but thats just me. You are so wonderful to adopt a rescued animal! My dad and stepmother rescued a Greyhound from the Greyhound rescue in Houston a couple of years ago. His name is Sam and could not be a better dog. He was very badly abused and has several burn marks on his body. When he hears loud noises he still gets very frightened and will hide in the closet or under beds, but overall he couldn't be more wonderful. I have a 1 year old little sister and he is super protective of her. Whenever she plays outside he always stays right between her and the swimming pool to keep her from falling in. I hope your new puppy brings as much joy to your life as Sam has brought to my family! Keep us updated on her progress with her heartworm treatments. I have had two dogs with heartworms who were just fine after treatment so here is some for her!

She's so lovely Melanie, DBF Allan's Mum and Stepdad had a rescue dog called Honey and she was the most sweetest, affectionate, gentle dog I have ever come across. I think you are doing a wonderful thing and she is such a beautiful dog. I really like the name Layla, I think it suits her.

How wonderful! I like Layla for her name. We have a boxer named Bailey, and she is an absolute love . We've had her since she was a pup. She's not a rescue, but she does have a serious heart problem, and has not been given a good prognosis . You would never know she's sick, it has not affected her in any way as of yet (she's just over 3 yrs old). Even if she won't have a long life she will have a wonderful life . We love her very much! Good luck with your boxer!!
