As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Most embarrassing WDW experience
Forgive me if this question has been asked before - I'm relatively new to these boards! I'd love to hear any embarrassing stories that occurred to you or others while in The World! DH and I were talking about our most embarrassing moment last night while carving our Disney pumpkins! Here goes.....
Although DH is not a big fan of Food Rocks in Epcot - I convinced him to go with me on a recent trip. Something about those corny songs always makes me laugh! Anyway, we noticed that they were letting people in just as we entered so we ran for the doors. We apparently weren't quick enough, however, because we made it into the pre-show loading section but didn't make it into the food rocks auditorium. As we turned around to go back out, the pre-show doors shut and we were STUCK!! We thought for sure the CM would see us - but alas, he did not! We were stuck in the pre-show room with quite a few people waiting outside the doors looking in - trying to figure out what we were doing! Much to DH's dismay, not only did we then have to hear the show in it's entirety in the pre-show room, but then we got to see it too!
I reminded him last night that Food Rocks will be closing in the near future to make way for the new ride - so we'll have to be sure to catch it one more time on our upcoming trip....but this time I think we'll take our time and enter slowly with a group!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
OK...here's mine.
Last June while we were at MK we decided to go to Frontierland and get my son the g-u-n that he'd been wanting forever (and I had hoped to not buy). We were over in Fantasyland when we decided to go buy it. When we got to Liberty Square we realized it was 3pm parade time and didn't look like we'd be able to get over to the shop as we were on the river side of the street. But, the parade hadn't made it down past Pecos Bill's yet, so I said let's just go across before the parade gets here and started looking for a cross-walk area. Not finding one, I decided to go under the ropes and cross the street....so I did, only I didn't make it far....I tripped and fell right in the front of the crowd waiting for the parade. When I looked up, I couldn't believe how close the front of the parade was and quickly got to my feet and crossed to the other side with my family following right behind me.
My knees were bleeding and luckily I had some first aid stuff in my fannypack and sat down on a wall to fix it up (with help from DD) while the others went off to the shop for the g-u-n. Later I went to First Aid to get better bandages (mine weren't big enough).
I'm sure all the people watching got a good laugh on my account. And I'm sure it looked like I was trying for a prime spot to watch the parade....which is one thing I hate to see just as a parade starts.
After reading this, this might be one of those "you had to be there" things, but it WAS mighty embarrassing. Lesson learned....DON'T RUN UNDER ROPES AT WDW!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
LOL, HiddenMickey! I can picture that one! Don't feel bad though...a similar thing happened to DH at Hershey Park last summer! He was trying to be "cool" by jumping up onto the cement seating areas and fell flat on his face. I could hardly believe it happened - and of course everyone around saw him and asked if he was ok. He quickly responded by saying that just his pride was hurt and began walking quickly away from more embarrassment!
Well, at least you weren't hurt badly! What a way to see the parade up close and personal, though! Glad I'm not the only one with an embarrassing experience at WDW!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
I didn't get past my $300 question on Millionaire Play It! I had some ridiculous question, like name the part of a theater stage a)apron, b) smock, c)overall, d) bib. I had NO clue. I think it was suppose to be apron and I said smock. Ack! I was embarassed. The only redeming thing about this, was several people came up to me afterwards and said they thought that was a much harder question than a $300 one should be. Also, DD SCREAMED the entire time I was in the hot seat, which was a bit distracting. LOL! Bottom line, I bombed the "easy" question . . . .

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
When I was about 13 years old, I went on the Wonders of the World educational tour. Well, it was quite educational as I learned that heat + humidity + teenage excitement + car sickness = THROWING UP ON MAIN STREET!
Our group had been going in and out of air conditioned buildings, hot weather and really hot "sitting in the sun" vans. Plus, I've never been good with cars, and get motion sick very easily; and I was having way too much fun with friends I was making that day. So, when our tour leader brought us to the Magic Kingdom to get seats for the parade (it was an entertainment tour), I was pretty nauseous. I lost it right in front of the Emporium, on the street that goes between the Fire Station and the Emporium. The tour leader was worried about me, but I bounced right back after throwing up! However, I was quite embarassed, since I almost threw up on our guide!
Definately embarassing!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
I suppose I should add mine to the list.
Last November, I was at the Tower of Terror with my younger sister. Since I had been on the ride before, I was more concerned about making sure that I saw all of the cool stuff that my dumb 100 Years of Magic pin was supposed to do in the queue and on the ride.
Right after the pre-show (in the library), the doors opened for us to queue up for the elevators. As I exited the library, my pin went berserk. Since I had it attached to my lanyard, I help up the pin for my younger sister to see (she was walking slightly behind me to my right).
As I turned my head to show her the pin (but still kept walking at regular speed), I rammed into a very solid, very unmalleable brick wall (head-first, no less). I hit the wall so hard that I bounced off of it and into the people behind me.
Naturally, they asked me if I was ok, but since I was so shaken by the event, I was actually asking them if they were ok.
My noggin throbbed for hours afterward, and I wonder if I left a dent on the wall...

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
Ok, I'm LMBO at these. I'll add mine:
2 years ago when I took my oldest niece Krystal who was 12 at the time, to WDW, we had scheduled breakfast at CRT for like 8 am or something. Anyway, we got done eating prior to rope drop in Fantasy Land so we were under the castle with what seemed like a thousand other people.
There we were, minding our own business standing around and talking to each other. I had stretched to a rather awkward position to straighten my backpack out when Krystal spied Mickey and Minnie. I should have known then I was in trouble!!
She bumped into me and between the weight of my backpack and my position I had gotten myself into, I started teetering backwards and bumped into this nice guy with a baby in his arms. I had just turned around to apologize to him when Krystal moves in even closer to me trying to get a clear view of Mickey and Minnie when she knocked me off balance. This time I was sent teetering to the side and thought for sure I was going to bust my butt right there underneath Cinderella's Castle! Instinctively, I reached out my left hand and grabbed onto something to stop my fall.
Little did I know what I had grabbed onto was the woman's thigh who was standing next to me. OMG!! I was horrified!
She looked at me like I had totally lost my mind, I looked at Krystal with a nasty look and Little Miss Innocent was standing there in hysterics laughing at me as were most of the people in the immediate vicinity.

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
Ok, I'm next ..... I might as well, because I'm in good company here!
As all of you can attest to, riding in the front of the monorail is a huge highlight, right?? Well, prior to my last trip, I studied up on all of your tips on raising someone's chances on getting a ride in the front!! So I was ready, right??
I went with a friend of mine, and it was her first trip to WDW, so I was out to show her the ropes. And I continually hyped up the "riding in front" of the monorail, and the best way to have that opportunity. Well, time after time of riding the monorail, there were either families, or we didn't get there soon enough..... and then......on an evening on about Day #3 of our trip.... we are leaving the Magic Kingdom late, and there was hardly anyone around.... we are walking up the ramp towards the monorail and I noticed:
A monorail just left, and we are going to be first in line for the next one ... (the excitement was building) And I was off....sprinting, leaving my friend in the dust, to put in our request to ride in the front.
Then all of the sudden, it was like everything went into slow motion, and I was getting closer and closer and closer to the CM working the monorail. (I could have sworn I heard the theme music from Chariots of Fire, at this point) I'm getting so excited that finally, we would be riding in front! The coveted award of the monorail riders, right?
I get to within 5 feet of the CM, who was a young, pimply faced gentleman, who had a look of fright as he saw me running towards him. Out of breath a bit, I said, "Hello, is there any room for me and my friend to ride in the front on the next one?"
This nice CM, with his most professional face on, and in the most professional Disney delivery says, "Ma'am ,the front of the monorail is on the OTHER end"
I just wanted to crawl away from there and die somewhere!! LOL My friend just started howling, which made it that much more funny!! I will NEVER forget that!!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
Okay, so far to date, my most embarrassing moment at WDW was September 2002. We were on Tower of Terror enjoying our fall, a ride I absolutely adore. At the end, I reached down to pick up my backpack and then I hear this voice right in front of us, I screamed!! I did NOT see the CM come in after the ride! Really! It wasn't the drops that scared me, it was the porter! He looked at me like I was totally nuts! My nieces still make fun of me for it!
Sorry guys, I don't really have the knack for storytelling, you just would have been there, laughing with the rest of the elevator!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
I've cut and pasted mine directly from the Trip Report:
[ QUOTE ]
Next comes the most embarrassingly funny event of our vacation. First off, I'll tell you that my bruises took about 7 weeks to go away, but luckily, the incident left no permanant scars. I'm now at the place where I can see the humor in the situation. In fact, I'm cracking up now just remembering it.
We decided to ride the Astro Orbiter. This is another ride that I don't remember riding as a child. Trust me, DB is always going to be a part of any memory associated with this ride from here on out! The ride seems tame enough, right? Wrong! It is evil I tell you! When the cast member let us onto the platform where we pick our rocket, DB and I headed around to one on the opposite side of the platform, farthest away from the CM's operating station. DB gets in and I climb in after him. I honestly had no doubt that we would both fit. I was wrong! Both of us are slightly overweight, but we had never had any problem riding together before. Well, I quickly realized this was not going to work, so I decided to "jump ship". Only DB moved his legs the wrong way at precisely the wrong time, and we got tangled up together and I was stuck half in and half out of the rocket, unable to sit down. I'm thinking, no bigie, If I just wiggle a little I'll be out in a jiffy. Wiggling did not work. By now DB is cracking up at me with my bootie stuck in his face, unable to move. I am nearing panic as I envision the ride starting and me flying out of the ride. DB starts yelling at me to get out, as if I think this is a good plan, duh. (note to all hubbies out there, this is the WRONG response if you ever find yourself in this type fo situation) My thighs were being squashed into the rim of the opening into the bench inside the rocket, and any movement on my part or DB's caused unbearable pain. I realized, however, that the CM running the ride hadn't noticed us and he was going to start this thing whether I was safely inside or not. As much as I love Disney World, I did not particularly want to die there. I knew this was gonna hurt bad! I gritted my teeth, DB gave my rear a giant push, I'm pretty sure I screamed as all my pride left at once, and I was free. I was standing inside the ride with just enough time to hop out before it started. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. No problem, girls have the amazing ability to do both at the same time. I made my way back to the queue and watched DB from there. He seemed to be having a grand old time. His face was red from laughing so hard. When he got off, he gave me a big hug and I went off to take my seat ALONE on the next flight, which I managed to enjoy, as long as I didn't touch my thighs. The bruises were already turning green. After that, DB treated me to a much deserved Mickey Bar.

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
I remember reading this in your TR and thinking it was funny because we had a similar experience on the Astro Orbiter! The CM's must get a kick out of squishing two adults per rocket ship.....In fact, prior to us getting stuck the CM indicated that there was plenty of room for two adults to ride together! I was so embarrassed trying to get us both unstuck after the ride was over that I jetted to the elevator after exiting and realized that my husband was not on the elevator going down with me! After a brief moment of panic, we finally reunited at the bottom of the elevators. Let's just say that since then, we haven't taken a spin around the planets for fear of the strong gravitational pull taking us hostage again!

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
We were eating at the Kona Cafe after a very hot tiring morning in MK. I ordered some sort of chicken sandwich. The bun it was on was very thick and the sauce on the bun made it almost impossible to pick up and eat. The entree also included french fries with ketchup in one of those small white containers sitting on my plate. I didn't realize what a BIG mistake I made by not taking the container of ketchup off my plate. Frustrated with the sandwich, I started cutting it with my fork and knife. When I did, my hand slipped and hit the container of ketchup. It flipped up and splattered on the side of my right hand. I started laughing until I noticed the man sitting at the table next to me. The majority of my ketchup was on his arm. I can't count how many times I apologized. I was so embarassed. To make matters worse, we kept running into the same couple the rest of the day.

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
Our most embarrassing moment was when our youngest DD was 4 years old she saw Chip & Dale over by Town Hall and she just had to see them. She ran full blast towards them and before we could stop her she ran right into Dale and hit him. Well you know how tall a 4 year old is and she nailed him. He never knew what hit him, neither did the woman assigned to watch him. He fell to the ground and was rolling and kicking. He never made a sound but I am sure he wanted too. Then our DD started crying when she realized she hurt him. Then he started to act like he was crying too, which made it worse for DD. Both of them laying on the ground crying and kicking. By then a lot of people were standing around starring. It was so funny. My DH was taking pictures instead of helping him up. My DD still remembers and talks about the time she hurt Dale.

Re: Most embarrassing WDW experience
Actually, my story is about my brother. We were at the Hoop De Doo(Now prior to this, my friend and I were late to dinner, so my 2 brothers were at the table alone, which attracted a lot of attention for them since it looked like they had been stood up, and eventually the Hoop Players had chosen Jack to participate in their show as well), and as we were leaving, it started to POUR. I mean cats and dogs and chickens and cows pouring. So we all made a mad dash for the boat dock to take us back to the MK. Now the dock is made of wood, which gets slippery when it is raining so hard. He was running at full speed, when all of a sudden his foot slipped and there went my 6'2" brother, whammo, right on his face onto the dock. Well the rest of us were laughing so hard we all had to stop running and just laugh at him. Well, we weren't the only ones laughing. Already under the awning of the dock was this woman who witnessed the whole thing, and she was pointing at him and laughing at him out loud, and well, we all just laughed even more. What a rough day for Jack!
