As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I'm playing about with a possible scenario for a future trip, where we'd be flying up to New York and we can pick which airport to fly into, as there are direct flights from elsewhere in the US (so immigration/customs is not a concern for us) into La Guardia, JFK or Newark. We'd then be heading into Manhattan.
If you had the choice of those three airports, which one would you choose as the easiest to get through and get into Manhattan?
Just asked DH Drew, a native New Yorker, who said LaGuardia. Fairly small with several means of getting to Mangattan.
JFK is not terrible except it's notorious for construction somewhere all the time, and frankly, I find it a crazymaker.
Drew says, "Forget it" about Newark. Hard to get into and out of, plus you have to pay to get out of New Jersey. Seriously! New Jersey is the the only state that makes you pay to leave it!

Oh my goodness - I never knew that, so that's good information.
Truthfully, NJ isn't a terrible place. My FIL has a lovely condo near Princeton.
It's something of a joke among New Yorkers--"Jersey, the state you have to pay to get out of!"
Probably a pretty smart politician figured out that a lot of money could be made by charging all those NY workers who live less expensively in Jersey. "Oh, yeah? Think you wanna live here and work over there? We'll show youse."

We fly in/out of LaGuardia and JFK regularly and prefer LaGuardia for it's proximity.
LaGuardia is about 15-20 minutes closer than JFK and as a result taxi/car prices are anywhere from $10-$25 cheaper (depending on where you're going in Manhattan). It's also a smaller airport and a little bit easier to navigate.
Your best bet is to fly into LaGuardia. All three airports are very busy, but LaGuardia is closest to Manhattan, and the least busy of the three.
Notwithstanding the jokes about New Jersey, there are tolls going into Manhattan no matter which airport you decide to fly into.

Good to know - I assume if we take a cab (we might do a car service), the tolls are included in the total price or do we pay the tolls?
I strongly suggest you avoid Newark. It is known for lots of long delays. I had a change in Newark on a trip cross country. Left MHT (5 hours by car to Newark) for a "quick" flight to Newark. Landed 5 hours after take off. Spent a couple of hours circling over Albany because Newark was backed up and no place to land. Had an anxiety attack I might miss my connection but flying out of Newark is no better. It left about 4.5 hours late. Only thing I missed was a good night's sleep in CA.
I also don't think getting into the city is particularly easy from Newark. My vote would be 1. LaGuardia 2. JFK 3. a smaller local airport (SWA flies into quite a few)

I must admit I haven't checked out Southwest yet... good plan!
When we cruised out of NYC we flew in and out of La Guardia. Got picked up by the "Pocono Wilderness Lodge" Shuttle (thanks to rescuesue!) and used a shuttle when we flew out for home.

Hmmm... not sure that's going to be an option for us. Which shuttle company did you use, just out of interest, and would you recommend them?
I am sure you know, but Southwest flights are not offered on most general travel sites. You would need to go to Southwest.com. I would also check out Jet Blue. They fly out of JFK. These two are my favorite airlines-good service and decent prices.
A piece of advise is in the US, the later in the day, the later flights tend to be so travel in the morning if you can.
