Please, for the love of all that's decent... - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok, we just got back from our five day trip to the World only to find that our A/C doesn't work. In Texas. So I'm writing my litany of issues with people in the park to purge myself before I write my trip report. The following is my request for everyone who ever plans to go to WDW.
Please, for the love of all that's decent:
Look before stepping out into the flow of foot traffic. There is, in all liklihood, someone else coming and no one wants to end up in a tangle of limbs, maps and Mickey Bars.
Don't force your crying six year old daughter to go on the RNRC. She'll just cry the entire hour that you're in line and you telling her to shut up & enjoy the ride just makes everyone around you uncomfortable and lose you points in the Mother of the Year pagent.
If you need to stop and consult a map or have a family conference, please PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. I know this comes a shock, but there are other people in the park and they may be trying to get to Space Mountain before thier Fast Passes expire. Being the person who makes someone else's FP expire is like getting between a crying woman and her chocolate: you just don't do that.
Make your teenaged daughter wear a bra. Especially when she's wearing a skin tight shirt. In the rain. What makes this even worse was the girl was with her dad (I hope he was her dad...). I'm a guy and if she were 21 and on the beach I wouldn't mind (shocking, right?) but she was too young and y'all were at a family park and eww.
Don't argue/plead/bargin with the cast member when they tell you that your Fast Pass is expired. I understand that you're disappointed but please; have some dignity. If you must do this, please step aside and let those with valid FP's and our dignity go through. K? Thanks. Bye.
Tend to your screaming baby. Seriously. Take it outside, give it a bottle or a pacifier or a sleeping pill or something. Please. Pretty please. Most of us are parents. We understand that babies cry but please, for the love of all that's decent, pay some attention to your screaming child because we're hot and tired too and we really don't want to be treated to the Howling Infant Serenade in Eeeeeee! Sharp.
If you do need to correct your child, try to employ decent parenting techniques. Telling your six year old that they're "horrible" and to "shut up" makes the other parents' want to adopt your child in order to get them away from you. If you must air your Wal-Mart parenting skills, please try to do it at less than a shout. We'd all appreciate it - especially your child.
Welcome to America. We're glad that you're here and we hope that you enjoy your stay in the land of the free. Please understand that Americans have more personal space than most other countries and that an 18 inch space between us and the person in front of us is not an invitation for you to stand in that space to watch Wishes. Thanks.
Ahh, I feel better. Thanks for letting me rant a little bit. I'll write that cheerful trip report just as soon as the AC has been fixed.
I you..Now only if Disney would print and publish this and post it all over the park's we all would be much happier..And Well Said. AND I HOPE your AC is up and running quick

I hope to hear about the positives of your trip soon. You came back refreshed and enjoyed yourself though, right?
Refreshed? I never come back from WDW refreshed. I come back tired and happy and we were tired and happy for sure. Don't take the post above *too* seriously: we had a great time. How can you not have fun at WDW?

Great! I'm glad to hear you had a good vacation then. I hear you on the tired and happy as well.

Infringe has me laughing. I have been infringed on by Americans as well as foreigners. I love how you addressed these issues. You are not alone and it is very hard at times to not scream after a day in the parks. Give me the sleeping pills so I can sleep through the screaming babies. So agree with parenting skills being absent in some cases.

Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
Yes, I've come across those people too!! And the ones who use strollers as battering rams, and run you over with their scooter! One of the reasons I avoid busy seasons, and go brave the Florida heat in August, and go in January. Crowds are more manageable.
Good points and I know I've thought some of those on previous trips too.
Interesting about the personal space, because ironically I quite often find when we're in the States that people invade the personal space I'm used to - and I tend to find they're American, so I guess we must like even more than you guys...

In my trips to the UK, I've found that y'all do enjoy a wide personal space and, at least in my experience, tend to be better mannered than most Americans. The folks to whom I referred above were from Colombia and clearly viewed any crease in the crowd as viewing space for the fireworks. I don't think they were aware that they were getting too close for comfort, I think that's just how things operate in their culture. I'm willing to bet that, had they known they were infringing, they would not have done it.
Also, I was just trying to have a little fun with my minor frustrations and hoping to make people smile while I ranted.
I think we all experience those issues, every trip. It's just part of the beast that is WDW. The teen girl with no bra - now that is disturbing. Of course, what people will dress their 5 year old girls in disturbs me!!
