As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). For a flight leaving MCO at 7:10pm, what time would DME pick up? Do they pick up exclusively at the resort you are checking out from or can you arrange pick up anywhere on property?
My parents have used DME, but I never have had the opportunity. I know I've read about you all using the service, but I don't remember exactly how long you were picked up before your flight.
Was it 3 hours? So would DME pick up at 4pm?
It turns out someone in my party has to return to NJ immediately after our trip for business. He took the last flight out of MCO for that day, as he needs to be in NJ for 9am the next morning. We were planning a day at Blizzard Beach. Since AKL is closest to BB, could he be picked up there or would he need to leave BB at 3 and jump a bus back to SSR to get DME at 4?

They usually pick you up about three hours before your flight at your resort. I'm not sure if you can arrange to be picked up elsewhere as I've never used DME.
Yes, you do need to be picked up at your resort. They normally assign you a time based on your flight - although we have negotiated a slightly later pickup as we didn't want quite so much time sitting at Orlando airport!
You are on a "scheduled" bus that has been sent to that resort (and the one or two other resorts on its list) for a specific number of people, so they do not allow you to take just any DME bus that comes along at your resort or any other resort. In fact, if you miss your scheduled DME bus, you actually have to get paperwork done to schedule you onto another DME bus that's coming to that resort.
And it's almost always 3 hours before your flight time -- but that can change if it's during a major travel time and they expect long security or other factors that can lengthen the time you'd need at the airport.

I don't mind the 3 hours. The security line at MCO can be pretty long sometimes. And just the drive itself is over 30 minutes from Disney property. I'd rather be early than chance being late an having to rush or miss my flight!

Looks like your question has been answered...... but just to reiterate- DME will pick you up approx. 3 hours before your flight and you will need to board at your hotel.
OK everyone. Thanks for all the responses. I was worried that we'd ruin our plans for ending the trip at Blizzard Beach, but if he doesn't have to be at Saratoga until 4, then he can leave BB at 3.

Those buses do not wait for anyone We actually missed a bus once because we didn't know what we were doing...started walking out to the area at our time only to have them tell us "bus just left"...we were probably 5 min late What a process to get on another bus
As you're planning what time to be back at the resort (or what time your friend needs to be back), be sure to allow enough time to gather any carry-on luggage. Bell Services can hold luggage after guests check out, but it does take a few minutes to retrieve it. That's another reason why leaving from a different resort wouldn't work even if it were allowed -- your friend would need to have to have anything he didn't check with him at Blizzard Beach all day.
