As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Are there specific dates for Halloween nights at Universal. We would like to go for just 1 day (My kids are too young for alot of the rides there) I however would love to see Harry Potter. But I don't want to go during a Halloween night, just to scarry for the kiddos just yet. Thanks!
Yes, there are specific dates for the Halloween Horror nights. The entire park closes and reopens for the evening as the Halloween party, as it is a ticketed event. If you are going during the day, it should be fine.
Actually, most years* the Halloween Horror Nights event ONLY takes place at Universal Studios park, not Islands of Adventure (which is where the Harry Potter area is). If you are just looking to go to IOA, the Halloween event won't affect you. (*this has been the case for all but like 3-4 years. During those years, the Halloween night was once at just IOA, and a couple times at both IOA and US. I didn't care for it at all when it was IOA, and though I didn't go when it was at both, I heard that was a mess. The last several years it has been back to just being at US, not at all at IOA.)
If you did also want to go to US, the only difference during Halloween nights would be that the park will close earlier. None of the Halloween CMs, haunted houses, or shows are on during the day at the park. You have to have a seperate ticket to get in to HHN. And Universal is VERY particular about that. It isn't like Disney where you can get into MNSSHP at 4, even though the party starts at 7, so there will be party and non-party guests there together. For HHN, the park closes to day guests completely, and HHN ticket holders are not let in until the function actually starts - usually around 7:00pm. No worries - and I don't blame you at all for not feeling like HHN is a good idea for your kids. IMO, they should have a 16 or 18 yr old minimum age...it is VERY scary, and some of the shows are quite risque.

Thanks for this information. We are going this October and my DH and I were wondering if we should take our 12 year old son. We are doing MNSSHP for me. My DH wanted to take my son to US for their HHN. But if it is too scary or risque ---mind you we are not prudes my 12 year old watches South Park and the like but ...... I don't want to scare the pants off of him.

I wouldn't go in a single haunted house once I got there. I was terrified just from the CMs walking the park dressed up. Since then I go in the houses, but I doubt I would if DH wasn't with me. One year in college a friend brought his 14 yr old brother, and just like when I was younger, he refused to go in any houses once he got there. I'm sure your son's not a scaredy cat, and I don't mean to imply that in anyway, but I really think I am going to make my son be 17 or 18 (basically old enough to go alone) before he can go to Halloween Horror Nights. And like I said, it's not even just the houses, they have areas all throughout the park that have CMs dressed up and scaring and chasing people. I had this deranged Little Red Riding Hood following me around forever asking me to look in her basket (there was a bloody wolf head in there). It's kind of freaky when you really can't get away from them. It's just not a cheap event, so I would worry that you would spend the money and then your son might not want to actually do anything or worse yet, leave the park all together. As for the risque shows, they do a Rocky Horror Show (and now I'm no prude either, and personally I LOVE RHPS, but I don't really want to watch transvestites dancing in lingerie with my son...) and a Bill and Ted's Show (which is half - well more than half if you're my DH - the reason we go because it's awesome, but it DEFINITELY has adult humor/language. All that said, it's obviously your call, but just be ready for intense scary/gory/horror situations.

If you son is into horror movies, and realizes none of its real and they CANT TOUCH you, he should be fine.

Universal says that it's not recommended for people under 13, but I agree with Ashli, it wouldn't hurt to have a definite age limit, and possibly older than 13. You know your child best and if he's not scared of much you could try it, but to me it was terrifying. Your kid may not be scared, but you might be!
