As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). DH is in a really bad situation right now and is facing the loss of his job today.
There were many, many circumstances that lead up to this and we are hoping that the company will allow him to make a statement in defense of his mistake.
He was hired 2 years ago and has several years of experience in his field. This was his first job in the "corporate" world, so he really wasn't sure how it all works compared to the military. With the promise of job-shadowing, factory school training, etc he felt confident that he could learn the works of this company very quickly. The hands-on job itself is something he can do in his sleep, but working with new forms, new logbooks and new policies was something different.
Soon after he was hired, the supervisor began to disappear and only check in with him once or twice a week for very short spurts. He still had lots of questions regarding policy & procedure, but got ignored or shot down every time he asked. This is NOT a job where things are taken lightly. People's lives are at risk if he does something wrong, so he is very careful and very professional with his work. So 2 years later, he still does not have much formal training and was still never sent to the factory schooling. He had to be on-call 24/7 with "maybe" every other weekend off. Vacations were nill. When he asked for time off, there was always a personal excuse from the supervisor about why it wouldn't work (for him, b/c he had personal business of his own that was always more important- girlfriend, water skiing, etc). We eventually got to take a week off in July and while at Busch Gardens, he received a very nasty phone call from the supervisor accusing him of wrong-doing. Of course, he's not at work and cannot very well defend himself thousands of miles away.
In the midst of all this, DH found out that he is being deployed in December. I never in my life thought I would be so excited about a deployment, but it was exactly the relief DH needed from his job. He mentioned the deployment to his bosses and ever since then, things have "coincidentally" spiraled out of control- beginning with the incident on our vacation. DH made a seemingly minor paperwork error last week and even after explaining what happened & accepting full responsiblity, they put him on Paid Admin Leave. For 5 days we have had NO idea what is going on. There has been little to no explanation as to what he's being punished for and how it is against the policy. We also know of several other instances that actually risked the safety of others- and those employee were never even written up. It was all swept under the rug. It's very easy for us to point fingers right now and want to throw everyone else under the bus- but we feel like he his being unduly punished and it could possibly be due to the deployment.
So right now, we're waiting to see what today brings. He fully expects to be let go from the job. But does he have the right to defend himself and bring up all these circumstances like lack of training, lack of help from the supervisor, lack of time off (which leads to exhaustion & bad decisions), the deployment issue??? He can't even access the company's policies on the website, b/c his log-in access has been completely blocked.
Sorry this is so long, but I know there are many people here who might be able to give us some insight. Any advice or pixies are much appreciated.
Oh- and the good news is, he does have a few job opportunies available to him, so this all might be happening "for a reason", as they say. We are just worried about DH's reputation in his field of work.

That really stinks! And it's so unfair! You would think they would honor someone who is going to serve his country--not punish him! Sending prayers and pixies...and hoping right rules out this time.
And a thank you for your husband for serving our country--jsut because his job doesn't appreciate it doesn't mean the rest of us can't!
for whatever your DH needs to get past this. Either keep job and get training he was promised OR let go with his reputation in tack for a new job opportunity, whichever will benefit him and his family the most.
Will have the opportunity to defend himself?? Are there other supervisors he can go to? I hope that he can somehow find a way to tell his side of the story. Sometimes as you said things happen for a reason and hopefully a better position will come of this. Please thank DH for giving of himself in service of our country.

I wish I had the answers for you, but I don't. But if you all can, please do whatever you can to document any times that your DH asked for help but was denied. Include that he has had minimal time off. Don't know if you will ever have the chance to use any of this, but I seem to remember that there were rules about being able to terminate military personnel being redeployed. If it's not illegal, it would make for really terrible PR for the company if it were brought to the public attention.
