As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was looking at the DL meal plans on thier web site. has anyone done the DL meal plan? and how did you like it. for a 4 day meal plan, this is the set up.
Character Breakfast 1
Character Lunch or Dinner 1
Breakfast in the Park 1
Snack Voucher 3
$10 Meal Voucher 2
$15 Meal Voucher 2
I like the fact that you get a character breakfast and lunch but can you get a meal for $10 at DLR??? Also, it seems as though i will have to pay for additional meals anyway. is this worth the $137.00 I will be paying for it?
It is just so different from WDW where you are guarenteed at least 2 meals and a snack everyday.
if you can offer any advice, i would appreciate it. i haven't been to DLR since i was 6, and everything has obviously changed!!!
Thanks!

We have never used the DL plan, but from what I have heard from others on the boards, it doesn't prove to be quite as cost efficient as the DDP in WDW. I'm sure someone who has actually used the plan will be by to give you their take!
I contacted reservations this mornting regarding the DDP. I was Quoted $35.99 pp adult for the dinging plan and $69.99 adult for the deluxe plan. The last time I used the plan was in 2002 and I purchased the "Grand Plan" (todays Platinum Plan). The only value I received in the grand plan was that I was able to use it at Victoria and Alberts. Other than that it did not appear to save me money.
I was really disappointed with a lot of the restaurant staff as when they found out I was on the plan I could not even get my drink refilled. At first I thoguht I was just overly sensative but then others have reported the same experience.
I alreay had my reservations at the Polynesian for my upcoming trip but the CM informed me that I would have to cancel that reservation and rebook my hotel in order to purchase the dining plan. The problem was the Quote they gave me to rebook my hotel was $150 more than I was currently paying. Needless to say I decided the savings on the dining plan just would not be worth it this trip.

To avoid any confusion, this thread is about the Disneyland meal plan, but for sharing your experience with the WDW DDP.
Just to be clear, the DL Meal Plan is nothing like the WDW plan. Basically it is just like pre-paying for your meals. There is not discount. I have used the DL Meal Plan multiple times, I like using it, but you will hear from others that it is not worth it. You do not get change back for the vouchers so you may have to pay out a little extra cash, but that isn't a problem for me. I liked the idea that my trip was pre-paid and paying a little extra was fine. If you have more questions, let me know.

I agree with Jacky, I have been using the DL meal plan for years now and use it everytime for the ease of having some of my meals paid for...we work it out so we end up paying slightly more to make sure we get the full dollar value out of the vouchers.

It doesn't equate to a discount...but I don't think the WDW one does either...The thing I liked about the Disneyland vouchers...and this may have changed by now...is that they didn't expire. The WDW plan, if you didn't use it you lose it. We had vouchers left over when we used the DL plan...it was just sooo much food!...and we brought them back and used them on our next trip. Again, I don't know if that's changed. After using the vouchers we started getting AP's and got discounts on our food then. So it's been awhile since we've used the vouchers.
The other thing about the vouchers was that if your total was...let's say $15 for 5 churros...you could use a $10 voucher from an adults book and a $5 from a kids book. You didn't have to use "a snack" voucher for each individual churro.
I've used both the WDW and DL plans...and I think the DL plan is more beneficial to the guests than the WDW...mostly because of that "use it or lose it" policy...second because the vouchers go by dollar amount not by number of snacks/meals. On the WDW plan you pay something like $4 per snack...even if the snack costs $2.50...at least on the DL plan you can pick another item and use the total amount of the voucher...you could get 2 $2.50 snacks with a $5 voucher...or 2 $3.00 snacks, use a $5 voucher and pay $1 cash.
