As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I am going to be purchasing a GPS in the next couple of weeks, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. I want something portable (so I can take it out of my car and put it in a rental car or my mom's car, etc.), and I guess not-too-big, as I drive a Volkswagen, and I don't have a lot of extra room on the dash area (or any area, come to think of it ). I really don't know much about them - except that directionally-challenged me needs one - so I'm going to do a little research, but any suggestions would be fantastic!

We like the Magellan we got last year that was on sale at Radio Shack for $99. You might consider one from AAA that has the AAA data on it and also talks to you. I am pretty good at navigating (I know, all guys think that) and I also use on-line or off-line maps from AAA and Google so I already have a good idea where we are going. I think having a GPS is good insurance, you can at least use it to tell someone where you are if you need help. We also have GPSs in our paramedic units, but I think its hard to drive and look at the thing at the same time, so I use a map if I am not sure.
We have a Magellan Maestro 3100.
We have Garmin. We love it so much we got them for everyone for the holidays this year. A few of my friends have also bought one. We have the C340 but it's over a year old at this point. My brother broke his and just replaced it with the Garmin Nuvi. Its a little more compact and he said he loves it just as much.

I gave DH a GPS for Christmas. After reading tons of reviews and speaking with a salesman at Circuit City (no commissions, so I knew he was being genuine), I decided on a Garmin nuvi 360. It's about the size of a deck of cards and we it! We used it on our week-long trip to California last month and it got us everywhere we wanted to be without a problem! (We programmed our destinations prior to leaving home) in making your decision!
I got mine from AAA. And they had a choice of making 5 monthly payments, no interest. I got the Magellan 4400 (I think). I went with one with the larger screen since there was no way Pat or I could see the one that is the size of a deck of cards. Mine speaks to me, and I can speak to it. Pat has the older model. It's preloaded with the AAA stuff, which is nice. My sister got hers at BJ's or the Meijer in Michigan. And I think it had the AAA stuff on it. Love it! She calls hers "Maggie" (not Tom), so Maggie tells us all how to get there and how long it's going to take!

I got the Garmin Nuvi 200W (so glad to see two more recommendations for it! ). I had already mostly-decided on it, and Best Buy had them on sale last Saturday when I purchased it.
I. Love. It. I cannot imagine my life without it. I named her Tammy, and Tammy and I are a team. And by team, I mean Tammy tells me what to do and I do it. At first, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get one with a male voice, but now I wouldn't want anyone other than Tammy. Tammy is so awesome - she doesn't get mad when I mess up, she just tells me how to fix it. Our relationship is so special, I'm thinking of marrying Tammy.
Tammy has really been a lifesaver. I don't really want to go into a lot of detail (as my friends and family are already tired of hearing about it) but I have to say that I am much more appreciative at how simple driving and navigating is in North Carolina. If you want to make a left-hand turn, you get in the left-hand turn lane, or, if there is not separate lane, then you just turn left when it's clear, and the people behind you patiently wait. There is no hugging jughandles and turning right to go left. There are no toll roads, I don't have to know what "delayed green" means (which I still don't) and most roads/lanes are CLEARLY marked. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I have Tammy.

We have TomTom - I can't remember the model, but it does worldwide maps. We got it to use in the States and it's been invaluable, although interestingly, it didn't work in Hong Kong.
