Without kids...Where, When, What dinning plan? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Our plans may be changing and we may be going to WDW w/out the kids. If DH & I do go, when is the best time (We almost always go Value Season), Tell me about Moderate Resorts, and since I can't save for "better" meals, would you use the Deluxe Dinning Plan? I'm pretty informed on the in's and out's, just looking for pure opinion here.

The Deluxe Dining plan looks like a lot of food and a lot of time spent in sit-down restaurants. So I guess it depends on how you like to spend your time at Disney. Are you an attraction/ride type couple, or are you a "let's enjoy some good food" type couple? Without kids around, it might be nice to spend some quality adult time with each other at some nice restaurants, so maybe I would go with the Deluxe Dining Plan and hit all the more grown up restaurants while you have the chance. JMHO. Whatever you decide, have a great time!
I agree with Joanne, if you are looking for a luxurious trip filled with meals that the two of you can enjoy peacefully, the deluxe plan is a great way to do so. A nice reward for all that great parenting.
For the moderate resorts, Port Orleans can be considered romantic. I think it depends on what you are in to; the feel of the islands, a rancho feeling, etc. You really can't go wrong with any of them, IMO.
Enjoy the planning!

Congratulations on a trip without the kids!!! No matter where you stay or what you do, you will enjoy just being with each other! We are going on our first no kids trip in November. We are very excited!!!!
I second the vote for the Port Orleans resorts -- and would really push you to try the French Quarter. So romantic!!
I agree, go with the Deluxe DDP if you're into the meals. The regular DDP is a good deal for adults who generally eat one sit-down meal a day. (You'll probably break even, but it's nice to have it all prepaid, especially if you *know* you're going to have one TS meal per day.)
If you think you're more likely to be commando without kids in tow, then I'd go out-of-pocket (OOP.) (That said, you're also more likely to scrimp and watch your pennies if you pay OOP and you're more likely to get great meals if you're not worried about "spending" the cash like... well.... like real cash.)
My DH and I went on our 20th anniversary alone and stayed at Carribbean Beach. We love that tropical ambience they have there. It was a different kind of trip without our son. We took it slower and didn't rush from one ride to the next. We always do the DDP and it is already too much food. I can't imagine trying to eat even more. We use the snack credit for breakfast and it is plenty. You will have a great time anywhere you stay. It is Disney after all!
I just checked out the dining plans for a friend who's planning a trip. It looks like for just $6 more a day, you can get the premium package that includes tickets to LaNouba and unlimited tours and golf. You might consider that if you decide to go deluxe. (I'm very jealous!)
There is a "premium" Magic Your Way package that includes the Deluxe DDP and more options, but I can't find the price on AllEarsNet.com. (But, one can assume that the food portion would be the equivalent of the Deluxe DDP)
There is also a Platinum package that is even more deluxe than the "premium" MYW package. Again, I'd expect it to be even more expensive than the Premium.
The very bottom of THIS page includes info on the Premium and Platinum packages.
We're going this year 11-29 through 12-5 - all but the first day is value season. It's a great way to see all the holiday events without paying the scary christmas/new year's prices.
Out of the mods I've only stayed at CBR but I can't say enough how much I this resort! I adore the atmosphere and love the feel of the food court - looks like you're outside in a marketplace, including the ceiling looking like the sky. I'm hoping to surprise DBF with an upgrade there for our trip. There are some negatives about it, mostly the size. It is a VERY spread out resort. Having to get on the internal bus just to refill my mug does not sound like fun to me. Location here could make or break your stay. I'd pay for a preferred room but if you couldn't I've read good things about Jamaica.
Your plans sound so wonderful! This is exactly what my husband and I are looking forward to. We had planned on staying at POFQ on our last trip to the world, but a good friend reccomended CBR. We valued her opinion so much that we checked out all the details and decided to switch our reservations to CBR. We could not have been more pleased with that trip. The deluxe dining plan sounds sooo good. Rather than take the time to return to the resort during the day, we found that a relaxed table service restaurant provided the needed break from the bustle of the parks. The deluxe plan would give us the ability to try some more of the signature restaurants. If (ok, when) we go again I would return to CBR in a heartbeat but pay for a prefered room so I could be close to OPR. I would go with the deluxe dining and stay any time that attendance is low since I am one of those people who detests big crowds.

If I were going to WDW on an adults only trip and I could choose any time of the year I wanted to, I would go during the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. Just MHO.
My DH and I are going in 9/08 and we are doing the ddp and staying at Disney Coronado Springs its not one of the lowers price but it is DH 1st time and I didnt want him to hear kids running around all day and nite. I had so much fun planning for our adr. DH loves to sit down and eat so if yours is like mine I think you both would like it. Good luck.
