As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The whole prospect of buying new appliances is exciting and scary at the same time. It will be nice to start fresh, but it is scary to be making so many major decisions all at once. After all, whatever we buy now is what we are going to be using for a long time to come!
So when it comes to refrigerators, what kind do you have and what do you like or dislike about it? Are there any must-have features? Any thoughts on side by side v. freezer on top v. freezer drawer on the bottom? Thanks!
We have the freezer on the top kind. There's no room in the kitchen for the side by side which makes that an easy decision. I like the freezers with the ice cube makers. I hate filling up those ice cube trays.
We had a freezer on the bottom. HATED it. There was no ice/water through the door and it was hard to get to anything in the freezer. Every time we used it, hubby griped and complained. It was only a few years old when we bought our current model (and gave that one to FIL who's "garage fridge" had just died). We now have a side by side (stainless front/black sides, love it) with ice/filtered water which we all love. Ours is wide enough to hold pizza boxes in both the fridge and freezer parts, which is great (that was my big complaint which is why I bought the freezer on the bottom in the first place). Hubby still gripes and complains that there is no room, but he just doesn't know how to utilize it well. I highly recommend a plastic turntable for jams, jellies, and pickles on one of the shorter shelves!

I have a freezer on top fridge. My parents have always had the side by side version. The youth center I work at has a freezer on bottom version, but also the actual fridge doors open side by side. I can personally say that I really, really like my youth center's fridge - all the drawers/shelves slide out, crank up and down for space management, and the freezer compartment slides out, as well as has shelving. It's just a really nice fridge. And HUGE! At first, I thought I'd hate the freezer on bottom, but because it's so convenient to get into, as well as so enormous, but well-organized, it's a winner in my book.
Second place goes to my freezer on top. Last place goes to the side-by-siders. I absolutely loathe them. I feel like you sacrifice space on both sides, although the multiple shelves are nice.
We've just bought all new appliances for our new house. We got a side-by-side, stainless with the water/ice cube feature. Our current one that is staying with this house is a regular fridge with the freezer at the top and no bells and whistles.
We have a side by side and I hate it. Can't fit anything wide into the fridge or the freezer The next one will have a freezer on the botton. I don't care if the fridge have french doors or just one door, nor do I care about having water on the outside of the fridge either
We have a freezer on the bottom and love it! Our last one was like this, too. We had a side by side years ago but I could never fit anything in it - found the space very limited.

I lust after the freezer on bottom kinds in Lowe's all the time. They do make them with the ice and water in the door now, although they are a lot more expensive. We had a freezer-on-top kind forever and then got the side-by-side a couple of years ago and I can't stand it. It's not wide enough and we're constantly taking stuff to our second fridge in the laundry room (which is a cheapie, no frills freezer-on-top kind), especially when we have big dinners, which is often with my big family. It's hard to fit several dishes in the side-by-side. I think if you had one of those extra-wide side-by-side's it would be okay (sounds like that's what Dawn's is), but ours is too narrow.
Good luck! I love appliance fake-shopping (shopping when I know I'm not buying anything), but I can see how the real thing would be stressful.
I am a side-by-side lover. The ONLY thing I am not crazy about is that you can't stick huge packages from Costco in there, but I know you can get larger models with more capacity than mine has.

I bought a Stainless LG freezer on the bottom and LOVE it. The freezer door swings out just like the frige so it's easy to get down, pull out drawers, etc. I didn't like the bottom freezer doors that pull out like one big drawer. I felt it would be too hard to get to things. My frige is also HUGE! I can put extra large pizza boxes in with no problem and can store huge turkeys in my freezer. It was very affordable compared to other brands.

We have a Whirlpool side-by-side. At some point in my life, I've had every kind there is, except the new "drawer" ones.
I prefer the side-by-sides. I find I can utilize the space with-in them better. BUT - we have two freezers in the garage (one is a stand-up we use for meats and veggies, the other is an old chest freezer we use for snacks and fish bait - seperated by a "wall" I made DH put in!!)
We have the landlord-provided apartment fridge. He bought it AFTER we put down our deposit and he knew the fridge he was buying was way too small for a family of three - especially for a 3 bedroom house. Cheapskate.
I would LVE one of the freezer-on-the-bottom fridges. We had a side-by-side when I was a kid and, though I loved the icemaker/water dispenser option, it's not the deciding factor as much as not losing things in the freezer to freezer burn because you forget what's in there.
