Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I think I have a problem

I go from thinking we don't have enough planned -- to thinking I have too much planned. We haven't gone for a full week before. I think I am crazy. We aren't commando type people, but then having to make resverations for dinner makes me feel like a Drill SGT. (WE MUST BE AT TTC @ 1700 hours)

What if we decide we don't want to honor one of our ADRs (and just grab a CS) do we call and cancel for someone else can have the seating?

Re: I think I have a problem

Nothing will happen if you don't make your ADR's unless it was an ADR that you had to hold with your credit card- then I'd make sure you give proper cancellation notice. It is always nice to give the restaurant a call if you won't be coming. We cancelled our ADR's at Coral Reef as we were getting a table at Nine Dragons, and the CM thanked us for calling to cancel.

Re: I think I have a problem

Unless you've given a credit card to hold your table (and I think there are 2 places that require this) - absolutely nothing will happen if you don't show up - however, Disney would appreciate a call telling them you've changed your mind since that will free up a table for someone else.

I programmed Disney dining into my cell phone to make it easy for me to remember that number and help me call.

Re: I think I have a problem

In March, we were on our way to Le Cellier for our ADR when the Cape May Cafe called to us. We explained our situation to the CM and she actually called Disney Dining for us and cancelles our ADR.

I try to call, especially if it is a popular restaurant. That way someone who calls for a last minute ADR (as we have done, too!) might be told "Oh we just had a cancellation at ___ o'clock! You can have that one!" . Just another way to spread the magic!

Re: I think I have a problem

The day before we left for DW, dh had a really smug look on his face, and when I asked him what was wrong and he said that he didn't like being tied down to all of the reservations. (I'm thinking, you're telling me this NOW?) Anyway, most of our reservation times worked out for us (easier than expected) but we decided to cancel a few of them. We cancelled Chef Mickeys the night before, and a few hours before our adr at San Angel Inn we decided that we wanted to cancel. I called the main dining 800# and cancelled without any hassle.

Re: I think I have a problem

I understand how you feel. Our last trip in Nov.'05 (Thanksgiving) we had more ADR than usual. For some reason (I think reading Passporter) I decided only 1 repeat, our favorite 1900 Park Fare, & 6 new ones. I too worried about being too tied down, but it worked out just fine. We cancelled only 2, there are phones in the parks and I put the dining & our resort #s in my cell phone. Its just the polite thing to do (call) & if you forget an ADR there is no penalty. I having a full week at WDW, you can really do a variety of activities and relax as well. You'll have a "Magical" time! Re: I think I have a problem

I agree, it's polite to call and cancel, and definetely do so if you gave them your cc#. I found that having some ADR's and some basic ideas of where to eat made life a little easier. DH thanked me for not having to do the "I don't know, what do you want for dinner?" dance each night.
Have you seen the WDW special that the travel channel ran a few years back? There was a dad on there that had laminated, hour by hour schedules for each member of his family. Now that's commando. Having a few ADR's is organized planning ahead to reduce stress.
Just my thoughts

Re: I think I have a problem

I would definitely call and cancel.
Our family NEVER makes ADR's while we are in the planning stages of our trip. We make them the day of or the day before and haven't been disappointed yet. We have also just shown up and gotten in.
Our secret is that we eat an early dinner, like 5pm, that makes a huge difference.

Re: I think I have a problem

I had the same problem on our first trip - too many ADR scheduled together - late breakfast, early dinner, that type of thing. I ended up calling a cancelling 2 meals that we had ADRs for. As another poster stated, I was thanked profusely by the CM handling the call - they really don't mind the change in plans. I think the only ones are the credit card reservation types - they are quite strict about cancellation policies. Good Luck! Re: I think I have a problem

Nothing will happen unless you pre-paid or paid a deposit, but out of consideration for other guests who may want to go I cancel mine if I will not be able to make it.
