As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The Outer Banks - revisited... COMPLETE - July 5
A little pretrip info for you:
Cast of Characters: Me (almost 26) and Andy (25) (I think you know us by now)
DBIL Matt (27) and his fiancee Dawn (27)
In-laws Tommy (60) and Karen (59)
Matt and Andy's best friend Kevin (27), his wife Lori (?), and their baby Audrey (1)
Location: Avon, a town on Hatteras Island...Our house, the Sandpiper, the same house we stayed in 5 years ago.. Nothing had changed
Okay so I just typed up ALL OF DAY ONE and it took me like an hour, and then I went to preview it, and I lost it for some reason, so now you get the short version of day one
Basically, we all caravaned (well, all of us but Tommy and Karen) out from Charlotte at 7 am Sunday morning. Tommy and Karen were coming from New Jersey (Karen's brother passed away last week, the same one we went to visit last summer if you remember my NY TR). The funeral was Friday, they drove half way Saturday, and met us there on Sunday.
We arrived around 2, checked in, got our house and unpacked. We realized around 3:30 that we were starvin like marvin, so the guys went and got us subs. Our meal schedule got all out of whack on this trip. After we ate Tommy and Karen arrived. We volunteered to go to the grocery store for them and Matt and Dawn came with us. We hit up the only grocery store on the island, the Food Lion.
Now since Saturday and Sunday are the turnover days the Food Lion had been picked clean by 5 o'clock. We finally found most of what we wanted, or something close enough, and some extra of course When we got back to the house we all headed down to the beach.
Matt and Andy and Kevin braved the water first. Those waves are unreal and I can't keep my feet on the ground even when I'm holding on to Andy. So I decided to spare myself on our first night. Dawn eventually joined in with the guys, but she got knocked around, too
After our walk we went back to the house and had dinner. We enjoyed our favorite pasttime of feeding the seagulls off the deck. Those guys are crazy!! After that it was time to make sure the hot tub hadn't changed in 5 years Now our house had a view of the ocean on the left side, the Pamlico Sound on the right side, and the Cape Hatteras lighthouse straight ahead. I SO loved just sitting in that hot tub, enjoying a drink, and watching that light go around.
After awhile we all got pooped out. Everyone went to bed, but I was too excited about being at the beach. I made Andy clean the kitchen with me and then we finally hit the sack around 11:30. Our first, loooong, day at the beach was over.
Andy, Lori, baby Audrey, and Kevin
Baby Audrey being all cute
Dawn fussing at Andy b/c he put ice in his beer b/c it wasn't cold yet
Lord help us, the gang's all here - From L to R - Kevin, Andy, Matt, Dawn, Karen, Tommy
The brave ones....look at Dawn's head up in the right corner
Me feeling artsy
The wonderful thing about this beach, it feels deserted...so peaceful
The view of the lighthouse from our deck. I had to zoom in all the way so it's a little blown out
Our favorite past time, feeding the birds... that's the Pamlico Sound at the bottom of the picture...
Look at how pretty the sky is..
Andy being all cute with Audrey...I really liked both of these so I couldn't choose...
Coming up: I'm not climbing up that thing..and hey, I can be a mama

Awesome, Melissa! I haven't been in a few years but just love it there. All except for those biting flies (ouch) ... and I'm leaving for WDW the day after you and it crept up on me, too with everything else going on. Maybe I'll see you around the World.

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Two - Updated June 26
Day Two - Monday, June 19 - Part one
That morning I was up early after such a late night. I woke up at 6:30 and laid there for a few minutes until I heard Kevin, Lori, and the baby up. After I got up everyone else slowly trickled upstairs. I had a bite to eat and then I wanted to go for an early walk on the beach. It was nice to go walk with just Andy for a little while. I think it's funny, too, b/c everytime we go to walk on the beach, we go left first....wonder what's up with that??
Once we got back we took our car and Andy's dad went with us to rent some chairs and umbrellas for the week. Gotta love our new car...it held the three of us, 5 beach chairs, and 2 beach umbrellas... with room to spare!
Once we got back to the house we all got ready and headed down to enjoy the beach and get some sun. The boys braved the water again while the rest of us got some sun. Lunchtime came up and we were all pretty hungry so we went back to the house and made some sandwiches. Then we all got ready to go see the Hatteras Lighthouse.
Six mid to late 20-somethings sharing 2 bathrooms was verrrry interesting. But we did a great job all week, with exception to this first day. We ran out of hot water after like 3 showers... So I took a cool shower Finally we were all ready to go so we piled into 2 cars and drove the 15 minutes to Buxton where the Hatteras light is located.
Now 5 years ago I climbed up the Currituck light and almost died. Major panic attack city there with the height issue. So I told them there was no way I was going to climb up the tallest lighthouse in the U.S. And luckily Lori and Kevin wanted to climb up but Audrey was too small so I quickly volunteered to watch her while they all climbed up together.
I gave Andy my camera and instructed him to take some good pictures for me! While they climbed I entertained Audrey with cheez-its and juice. She is such a good baby and I quickly realized I might enjoy doing this one day. Granted I was following her lead out into the HOT sun b/c for some reason she didn't understand my argument of staying in the shade. Then she wanted me to carry her so I had to put the big diaper bag around my neck, set her juice box down, and pick her up. Then I realized, there's no way I can reach that juice box on the ground So I had to ask some random lady if she could hand me the juice box. I assured her I wasn't a mama so I was learning as I went
After sweating buckets, we finally saw everyone up at the top. We waved and I breathed a sigh of relief. If they were up at the top then that meant they'd soon be back down on the ground and I could have some help IT WAS HOT!!
Matt and Dawn came out first and we stood in a shady spot to wait on everyone else. I think they had stayed behind to listen to a story about the lighthouse. We toured the museum in the lightkeeper's house and the giftshop. Then we headed back to the house. We needed to freshen up and find a good place to eat some good seafood for dinner.
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
These are Andy's pics from the lighthouse tour...
Apparently Kevin volunteered to pick up the kerosene tank that the lightkeeper had to carry up back in the day....
On their way up to the top
And they made it!
Inside that black circle I drew is me and Audrey walking everywhere in the HOT!!
And a zoomed in shot of the two of us
The view from the top
Waiting on Andy and Kevin.....
Me and the bird were ready to scrap in the giftshop
But then we made friends
And my goofy family/friends....on the way out Matt decided he needed to be carried like Audrey
Coming up: You want the baby to do what??

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Four - Updated June 28
Day Four - Wednesday, June 21 - How long can one sit in a non-moving vehicle?
Today was our Ocracoke day! I was excited about going to Ocracoke b/c A)I enjoy the ferry ride over B) Howard's Pub! C) I read about a British Cemetary there that I wanted to see and D) the Lighthouse
We all got ready and drove down to Hatteras where the ferry launches from. The worst part of the trip is waiting in line to get on the ferry. The ferry can only hold 30 cars at one time....and there were way more than 30 cars in line. So we sat in the line waiting to get in line for about 30 minutes. Then we finally get in line and sat there for another hour and 10 minutes. Sitting in a car for almost 2 hours is bad enough, it's worse when the car isn't moving! Andy's parents finally gave up and tore outta the parking lot like a bat outta you know where. His dad has no patience and I'll be danged if I had sat there that long to just leave! We were on the ferry about 20 minutes after they left...
Finally we were on the ferry and on our way across the Hatteras inlet. The Graveyard of the Atlantic as the area is known! The cross over was smooth and peaceful. There's just something about being on the water that makes me happy. Ms. Audrey did a fantastic job as well, considering her mother was about to freak out. Lori has a major fear of being trapped upside on a boat... we tried to assure her that the sound is really only like waist deep pretty much all the way across except for the channel that the ferries and boats follow. So we all took turns entertaining Audrey while Kevin let Lori rip his arm off in fear
Some pictures from the morning and the ferry ride:
The four of us before heading out to Ocracoke
On the ferry
Andy on the ferry
It was nice to have Matt around b/c he took pictures for us so we didn't have to brave the self shots
Once we drove off the ferry we headed straight to Howard's Pub. It was after 3:00 and we hadn't eaten lunch yet. Again with the eating schedule all out of whack.
The food was delicious. I had been looking forward to a soft shell crab sandwich all week and finally Andy and I both had one. Man those things are good. I mean I feel kinda bad tucking their little legs into my bun, but they are sooo tasty!!!
After eating we headed up the sun deck and took some photos...
Audrey and her little tomato at Howard's Pub
Me up on the sun deck, even though it was more of a cloudy deck that day...
I set the camera on a bannister so I could everyone in the shot on the cloudy sun deck.
After our wonderful Howard's Pub meal (no mean waitresses this meal)..we drove over to the Ocracoke Lighthouse. This one is interesting b/c a family actually lives in the old lightkeeper's house. Can you imagine people walking out in back in your front yard everyday to see the lighthouse?? Also, did you know that Blackbeard was beheaded in Ocracoke? He made it his home and wanted to make the area a gathering area for all pirates. Word got out and a british captain came over and planned a sneak attack on him. It took a bullet wound to the head and 37 stab wounds to take down the almost 7 foot, fuse burning beard, crazy pirate! A family in Massachusetts supposedly has his head, it was used as a cup and silver plated....nice.
Some photos from the lighthouse:

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Six - Updated June 30
Day Six - Friday, June 23 - Thanks to you two I have to have a fear!
Today Tommy and Karen offered to go with us to Kitty Hawk to visit the Wright Brother's Memorial and then to take us out to lunch. We of course agreed! Who can turn down a free meal??? Lori and a terrible migraine this morning so she and Kevin and the baby stayed at the house and rested.
We got a jump on T & K, mainly b/c we didn't want to be stuck behind the older folk for the hour long drive. We arrived a few minutes before they did and Matt had to make a restroom trip quick. So he and Dawn went to locate those while Andy and I toured through the Museum area. I already made it clear that "hey it's cool I can see that monument from here, and since I can see it from here, there's no way I'm walking all the way up that hill in the blistering heat to see it up close..." Luckily everyone else agreed.
Here are some pictures from this part of the museum. It was broken up into two different buildings:
A reproduction of the 1902 glider..
Some information on said glider..
is he trying to be cool??
We're lined up like a bad Cingular commercial
The monument.... From a distance of course!
The first large boulder is where the brothers took off from....each little boulder after that (there are 4) mark how far each flight went. The first two only lasted 12 seconds, I can't remember the 3rd, and the 4th, the furtherest, went for 59 seconds.
The rail on the ground is what they used to push the glider on to get it going.
After walking around on the grounds we went to the other museum building. It was here that my husband lost his mind
He's going to work on these photos in photoshop to get rid of the red parts of his shirt that you can see to make these even funnier
As if this one wasn't silly enough..........
He moved on to the smaller one
After some more learning we headed out to get some lunch. We went the Outer Banks Brewing Company. Fantastic food! We shared the calamari appetizer and I swear, it was the most tender calamari I have ever had! Delicious! I had the crab cake sandwich (but just ate the crab cake... I didn't want to mask the taste with all the bread, lettuce, and tomato ) It was a wonderful crab cake....lots of lump meat, not just stuffing... I was determined to eat every last bite...and I did This was a really neat place b/c they had a really cool stage set up on the lower level. Dh got a kick out of that and we read the upcoming shows they had listed. The upper level overlooked the floor and the stage on the lower level. I told Andy he needed to plan like a 2 week tour up and down the outer banks, I would totally be up for that!
After our lunch we wanted to go back to Rundown so Andy and his dad could get a shirt. Of course while we were there we had to have a drink....another shark attack please!
back at the rundown...up on the deck
