Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Can I just say, other boards are crazy, and you guys are the best!!!
Wow, we've been housebound today because I'm trying to train for the half marathon, and my pelvis is inflammed-- anyway, that's besides the point. I was on a non-Disney board, and can I just say that people pick apart everything you say, and totally really blow it all out of proportion. I just mentioned something about not being able to camp out for a concert that's general admission because I have kids-- and people started berating me that I should have a husband who's a responsible father (but it was a Wednesday and he couldn't take off and... I was just saying) And then it turned into a whole thing where everyone was quoting my "its a little hard to camp out all day when you have kids"-- which wasn't an argument just a statement, anyway they kept quoting it and yelling at me. I'm just gonna stay here from now on (and my Josh and Donna West Wing board is nice too, but noone is like Passporter). Well I'll stop rambling, I'm in too much pain to sleep, and my eyelid is swollen shut from allergies.Hehehe!! I love spring!. Thanks for listening!!! Love you guys. By the way, anyone watched Constantine,I just realize I watched the whole thing with no sound while defending myself on that board, and I didnt' get it. Guess next time I'll listen to it. I know this was a pointless post--- see ya. I feel so lucky for stumbling onto these boards almost 2 years ago!!! You are all the best!!!

I belong to a certain band's message boards [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] and I have tried to keep quiet for fear of getting yelled at and picked apart!!!
I was attacked by one person at one time, saying "What kind of a mother are you for taking your child to a place with so many people . . . and a concert at that!" [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/ukid.gif[/img]
I got a little not-so-nice to that person, and used a few "big girl" words [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img] . . . then ran right back here to where it is always nice and cheery!!! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I have never had that happen. I don't go on other boards, kind of afraid to, with all I have been told about them. I did go on one for spinal cord injured persons and their parents (my DD Samantha has a spinal cord injury - SCI) and I found a post from Samantha's BF about ME! It wasn't a very nice one, and we had quite a fight. That was when I decided to stay here!
I had onlyh one heated argument with one man on this board, years ago, but they were civilized and we really "listened" to each other and the gentleman actually conceded my point - we were arguing about seat belt usage.

When Paul was ONE, we took him to see the B52's and Ziggy Marley at an outdoor concert. So I guess I'm the same kind of mother as you. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] (And the people at the concert loved seeing the little guy with the bandana on his head.)
I have to admit, when I'm pms-ing, I get a perverse kick from reading verbal attacks on other boards.

I haven't posted on any other boards. Lurking there is enough to scare me away from ever posting on any of them. Everyone here has always been friendly and nice even when they disagree.

I psot regularly on a few other boards (Philadelphia Eagles and the rock group Journey) and there are always a few people who like to be sarcastic and "macho"... I usually just put them on "ignore".

I sort of love being appalled by the craziness on some message boards. It's like watching Omarosa. Horrifying, yet entertaining.
I posted a question about DME on the DIS before we went last Sept. It was sort of just to see what others had done. I have never been bothered at all by getting my luggage from baggage claim, so I asked why not just do that rather than check in and have to wait for your stuff. Some A**H*** guy replies, "See? People like YOU make this so much harder than it has to be. Ever think about packing a carryon with your swimsuits, etc.? Really. It's easy. Try it now. If you practice and practice you may be able to do it for real when you leave."
What a jerk. As it turns out, I was RIGHT and we wished we had just picked up our stuff ourselves.
Anyway. Sorry. I just remembered all that.

I know what you mean. I asked one simple question on a cruise board years ago and it blew totally out of proportion. You get the feeling on some of these boards that people are just sitting at their keyboards waiting to attack. I just prefer it here where it is warm, safe and cozy. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
And Dina, I hope that you recover soon! Ouch! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I have no experience with an inflamed pelvis, but I do know about allergy eyes. Mine were inflamed last week and I found great eye drops that used to be prescription only. Feel better!
And I am a huge West Wing fan also! These past episodes have been fantastic, but I'm so sad that it's coming to an end.

Oh I'm fine thanks everyone!!!!!! My pelvis split (actually my pubic bone) while I was pregnant with Danny, and sometimes it gets inflamed if I am too active-- I just ran a little too far on Thursday. No biggie. I usually just don't spend so much time on other boards, but we were bored today being stuck in the house, and I couldn't sleep. I don't think I'll get on other boards anymore lol!!
I do think some people just sit there waiting to attack everyone. So weird.
Jill-- you're right these last episodes have been great, and so sad!!! I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night's episode!! Have fun on your trip in 8 days!!! I'm still reading your last report (I'm slow!!) Can't wait to read the next one!

I am very new to this board but all the reasons you mentioned about this board is exactly why I decided to join. I really don't know anyone yet, but when I read the posts, I see nothing but optimism, encouragement, practical advice and a real willingness to help, even if a question has been posed before. I have made a few posts so far and have received such informative and positive responses that it has made me feel "good" just being here. I love it that we all share a love for Disney. I really think Mr. Walt Disney would be proud of the good-natured way all of you Disney fans interact with each other. I hope to be a part of this community for a long time so I can develop some of the nice friendships I see in the posts too. I don't post on other Disney boards - I have looked and did not feel the "Magic" that I feel here. I do post on some running boards - and they can get a bit out of control at times...
