Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Disneyland Gangs....Seriously?!?

I just read the article below - if this is true, I cannot even wrap my mind around it!!! I was thinking about previous trips and I can't say that I've seen anything like this.

You know what, it wouldn't surprise me, but only because Disneyland attracts so many locals, so I can imagine clubs springing up for groups of fans to go together and sometimes clubs do have probation periods and some of the other things the article talked about.

As to the lawsuit, who knows? How easy is it to file a lawsuit in the States? I might be wrong, being a foreigner, but I thought it was quite easy to do, so maybe someone is just trying it out? It is quite a scary thought with what's being alleged though....

VERY.

For a Small Claims suit (typically for damages of $2000 or less), you fill out a one- or two-page form, and pay a nominal fee - $20 or $30. Bam, lawsuit.

For anything larger, your hire a lawyer, they write up a multi-page suit, pay about $400, and bam: lawsuit.

There's no limitation, really, aside from the fee. Now, if a litigator lacks standing to sue, if there's no actual damages, etc ... it's relatively trivial for the defendant to get the case dismissed.

But there's really not much that can be done to prevent that person filing that civil suit in the first place.

As a lawyer, I disagree with Pax. Many people think anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. That is not true. You must have a cause of action as well as jurisdiction, Maybe in some states clerks will accept cases just to get the filing fee ($85. in my state for small claims), but there is also a bit of work for the court to prepare orders of notice.

As a lawyer, ethically you cannot file suits with no legal basis. And in most cases, disputes settle before anything is filed.

My DD was 5 when she would respond if someone said "I'll sure you" with Do you have jurisdiction? a cause of action and damages.

I don’t care much about the suit. Maybe it has a reasonable basis. I presume that will be determined and settled somehow.

Forming these clubs, fine. Having fun with whatever Disney silliness members enjoy, okay, although I think endeavoring to fill a ride with members is pretty rude. Doing good works as a club, also great.

Beyond that, I really don’t see why such clubs adopted the appearance of biker gangs. That seems decidedly contradictory to the spirit of Disney parks, the original especially. I’d rather they chose some other uniform with no frightening associations for non-club guests.

I've never seen groups walking around dressed like that at Disneyland, although that's not to say they don't exist.

I would be a bit annoyed if 100 people got in line on something I wanted to ride, but would just move on to the next thing--much easier at DLR & DCA than the WDW parks. But 100 cheerleaders packed the Star Tours FP line at DHS last week, and it wasn't a big deal. They were all dressed alike, too!

Cheerleaders are different, IMO. They’re a kids group wanting to enjoy the attraction, most of whom likely aren’t locals.

Call me inconsistent since I think adults have every right to let out their inner children at Disney.

I just think a local adult club that actively tries to fill a ride to see if they can is pushing the limits of rudeness.

I read the article, and to me it seems like the author is taking one tiny issue between a couple people and trying to affix it to the clubs as a whole. It seems silly and a bit sensationalist to me to try to equate these clubs to gangs.

If they wait in line like everyone else, I don't understand why that is a problem? Lots of people want to ride with their friends. Now, yes, most people don't go with 100 friends, but as long as their line etiquette is acceptable I don't see why it matters if they do this.

I was actually trying to make a little joke about the cheerleaders.

Disneyland Gangs....Seriously?!?

The social clubs are pretty visible at DL. I met and had a few drinks at Trader Sam's with members of "The sons of Anakin" in 2013, it was a real treat. It's so fun to see the amazing Disney themed art they have created for their tatoos and vest regalia. They were basically just a bunch of rockabilly styled young adults enjoying each other's company in the Happiest Place on Earth.

Like others have said, focusing on the lawsuit seems like sensationalism.

Ah, but - respectfully - anyone can file that suit. And then truthfully say they have filed suit against someone. Now, whether or not it gets tossed in the waste bin before going anywhere, for any of a myriad reasons (e.g. lack of standing) is another issue entirely.

All the article says is that a suit was filed. Not that it's going forward, not that it doesn't lack merits, just ... it was filed.

There is lots of Disney groups/clubs or people who love Disney. I googled and found a Disneyland meet up groups.
https://www.meetup.com/topics/disney...sbX3tDjz5xqE7H
Passporters are a Disney group who love Disney. I don't see a problem with these groups either if they are following park rules and being decent human beings. The problem I see is the writer trying to play up whatever went on to sale newspapers and makes people think gangs are roaming DL.
