As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The reason for this trip (as if we need one!) was to celebrate Lori & I turning 40 and Jennie 1 & Erica turning 30.
I'll start from the point when MY vacation officially began, the moment I left work and didn't have to be back again for 9.5 days!
Friday February 4th
11:00am Picture if you will, the scene from the end of Grease when school lets out for the summer and the students bust through the doors and break into song - yeah, that's what this was like. I hadn't had a proper vacation in almost two years and boy, did I need one!
Jennie 1 & I are coworkers (hence the Jennie 1 & 2 titles) in the same department and we waved toodaloo and giggled as we knew chaos would ensue as soon as we left.
First stop: Costco. We each grabbed a quick hot dog combo for lunch and started shopping. We were in and out within one hour - we were on a mission! Quick stop at the gas pump to fill up the "bus" and on to stop two. Note: a Yukon XL has a 31 gallon fuel tank - this info will be useful later in this post.
Second stop: Walmart. We flew thru the store picking up the last few items on our list.
Third stop: SunTrust bank. obviously needed cash for vakay. Note: a Yukon XL BARELY fits thru the drive thru at our local SunTrust - this info is not useful, just thought you'd like to know.
Fourth stop: Bank of America. I ran inside, didn't want to chance shaving off the top of the Yukon XL in the drive thru.
Fifth stop: My house. Note: a Yukon XL fits into my garage which was great since it was raining buckets by this time.
We unloaded the truck and dragged everything in the kitchen. Jennie and I put most prep kitchens to shame with our skills cleaning/cutting/pounding chicken and beef, slicing/dicing veggies and seperating everything into gallon ziplocs. This saved us precious amounts of time while cooking meals on vacation and it was easier to fit ziplocs in the coolers than say, 6 heads of romaine, 3lbs onions, etc.
Once prepping food was complete, packing the cooler commenced. Well, one HUGE cooler, became two along with 40lbs of ice. (this was going to have to keep for possibly almost 24 hours). Somehow we fit all the food but we still had the half sheet cake with buttercream icing to keep cold. Necessity is the mother of invention and I quickly remembered we had yet to move our huge plastic tubs of Christmas stuff to the attic. Yay for procrastination!! So we dumped the contents of the tub in my bathtub, filled a contractor garbage bag with ice and made our own cooler! That cake stayed cold the whole trip and we had an extra container to bring home souvinears.
We then dragged downstairs all the luggage and other items that I've been storing in the spare bedroom for the last 6 months and began to load the "bus". When finished, we were unable to see out ANY window in the back of the truck. WOW!
With the bus packed to capacity (over capacity according to one Pepsi can that exploded shortly after we shut the rear door), Jennie 1 went to pick up Joe from work and I took the dog to PetSmart for boarding. We regrouped back at my house to wait for Scott to get home for work. Tick, tick, tick....
6:40pm - We were on the road!!! In the pouring rain!!! And fog!!! So not cool!!! It RAINED for the first four hours of our trip. Jennie 1 was a trooper and drove the whole way to Orlando.
2:00am (approx) time for gas / break. We had just gotten on the Route 4 West and decided to look for the next gas station. We kept driving, and driving and driving. By this point the fuel light was on and we started getting nervous. We began to check our smartphones for gas stations. Everyone was wide awake and worrying about running out of gas. We took the first exit we came to since the remaining mileage was reading - - !! No signs of life much less a gas station. Back on to 4. Finally, we reached Int'l Blvd. in Deland and we limped to the same station we had visited back in October. Remember earlier I mentioned the 31 gallon fuel tank. We put 29.91 gallons into the bus!!! Talk about cutting it close!
Back in the bus, we were all eager to get to the hotel and get some sleep.
3:30am We arrived at the Best Western-Lakeside in Kissimmee. I ran to the front desk and we were in Room 422 within 10 minutes. Quick brush of the teeth, wash of the face and lights were out!!! I woke myself up by kicking the wall RIGHT next to our Seven Dwarfs sized bed so hard it left paint on my fresh pedicure!! My explatives woke everyone up and after discovering it was 8:30am, we all got up are ready for check out.
9:33 Check out. Back in the bus and headed for Old Key West!!
The Best Western was only 2 miles outside the WDW gate (such a welcome sight) so we arrived at OKW within an hour. It was such a great feeling to pass by the big white lighthouse with the Disney Vacation Club sign on it. We exited the bus to the sounds of steel drums and 70 degree weather. Ahhh, we're home! I was told by the greeter as I danced into the lobby, "look out, someone might offer you a job" Don't kid me man, I'll take you up on that!!
We were checked in by Mario from Costa Rica who was earning his ears and Mary from NJ who was backing him up. I had read a glowing review of Mary somewhere (prob AllEars) and it was spot on, she was fantastic - an excellent mentor for Mario. While they searched for a room that fit our request, we were offered some balloon sculptures and picked up our birthday buttons. We were told room 5422 would be our home for the next 8 days (funny, our room at the Best Western the nite before was 422) and we headed over to Olivia's for some breakfast.
All the rumors we had heard about Olivia's being a fantastic place for breakfast were true. Joe and I tried to consume all of the Banana Bread French Toast with buttered rum, coconut cream, banana syrup but failed. Jennie 1 ordered the Omelet with everything - it was the size of a grapefruit!! with cheesy potato casserole. OMG! Even Scott's plain pancakes were light and fluffy.
After our meal, we rolled ourselves toward the bus but were stopped by a breathless Mario who had been looking for us. Room 5422 had yet to be refurbished so they were locating another 2bdrm villa for us. Back to the Hospitality House. Our new room was 5230. Refurbished, third floor, golf course view as far away from HH as possible yet close to a bus stop and quiet pool. Exactly what we had requested. Kudos Mary & Mario!!
Back into the bus for the last time until check out. We drove slowly, taking in the sights of the resort as we wound our way down Penisular Road. We passed the Main Pool that was a huge sand castle, volleyball courts, fire pit, following the river toward building 52.
We parked right in front of the staircase and ran up the stairs. We roamed around the rooms for a good 10 minutes taking in everything and fell in love!! Then we trucked all our stuff up three flights. I could not imagine doing that in the summer, I'd pass out!!
Once the bus was unloaded, Jennie & I unpacked while Joe & Scott blew up over 50 balloons. I made a gallon pitcher of margaritas to enjoy as we decorated.
5:00pm Donna and Lori showed up. They had driven over from the Tampa area to stay overnight. We made some teryaki steak stir fry for dinner. It was so awesome to have a dishwasher. We ran it twice a day for the whole trip.
While cooking, we discovered the exhaust fan above the stove does absolutely nothing to help ventilate the room so we opened the door to the patio and turned on some ceiling fans. The fan on the porch unfortunately had it's pull chain wrapped around the base and when I turned it on it didn't make a good sound! Quick call to maintenance and someone appeared with a ladder to fix it. He looked surprised to see our party in full swing and we offered him a drink but he politely declined.
After a few hours of catching up over margaritas and martinis, Stephanie showed up. I hadn't seen her in three years when we had worked together at an Outback in NJ. She had arrived in Orlando two weeks ago for a 4 month stay on the Disney College Program. She stayed for a bit and promised to meet us for dinner Tuesday at California Grill (which also happens to be her place of employment while in Disney!!).
Shortly after Steph left, Fred showed up. He's another friend of mine from when I lived in FL. He also drove over from the west coast. Then the party went into high gear. More margaritas and martinis with a "few" shots out of the really neat ice shot glass mold I had picked up back home. Joe wasn't feeling well (might have been from the Captain Morgan 100 proof on the rocks he had been drinking ) so he and Jennie 1 went to bed early.
The rest of us headed down to the bus stop to catch a ride to Jellyrolls. It had begun to rain and the temperature dropped quite a bit and we started to get cold. We ditched the idea of taking the bus (which would have meant going from OKW to DTD to BW) and crammed into Donna's VW. Three adults squeezed into her back seat caused the guard at the BW to comment "that can't be comfortable"
It was already late by the time we reached Jellyrolls so it was packed. We caught a space along the back rail and proceeded to have a rip roaring good time. Well all except for Scott who was designated driver and very tired. He basically slept through the whole experience. He wasn't alone. We found him a seat next to another gentleman that had been snoozing as well. We had been going to Jellyrolls for years and have always had a great time. While one of the dueling duos we had recognized from previous visits, the other duo was new to us. Very talented but they lacked the spunk and pizazz that gets the crowd going wild.
We stayed for a few hours and headed back to the car about midnite. It had stopped raining but the boards remained slippery and Donna took a tumble right in front of Big River Grille and banged up her right elbow pretty good. We cut through the BW lobby and stopped at the front desk for an ice pack.
After a short ride back to OKW, we dragged ourselves up to the room and realized we needed linens for the armchair pull out bed. We were amazed that they were delivered immediately!! We got Fred situated in the living room and the rest of us crashed hard in the second bedroom. I think I was out before my head even hit the pillow!!
Tomorrow: Epcot and Drinking Around the World Showcase!!

Even though the day before was quite long and tiring, we all woke up around 8:30 - 9am. Funny how Disney does that. If we had been home with alarms set there would have been a whole lot of grumbling and smashing the snooze button.
Jennie 1 & I made breakfast; Scrambled Eggs with jalapeno seasoning, sausage links, hashbrowns with onions, toast with jelly and coffee with Baileys!! Again, must comment on how awesome having a full kitchen and a dishwasher was!
Donna & Lori left around 10:30 since Lori had to work so we said our goodbyes downstairs and walked the 50 steps to the bus stop. We needed to stop by Guest Relations over at DTD to cash in our Disney Visa Rewards points to spend on vakay. We were so happy to recieve a $150+ Rewards Redemption card! We also recieved the first of MANY comments on our custom decorated Bday buttons. I found it hard to believe more people don't decorate their buttons. We had picked up some cute stickers from the scrapbooking section of AC Moore before we left and each of our buttons looked amazing.
As we hopped on the bus to BW the rain stopped and it began to warm up. That had to be the longest bus ride ever!! First we stopped at Typhoon Lagoon, next we stopped at the Swan, then the Dolphin, AND then the Yacht Club, by the time the bus pulled up to the Beach Club, we were practically clawing at the doors. We took a brief tour of the lobby before walking over to the International Gateway.
We had purchased our park tix back in August from AAA and everyone's cards worked but mine! After several tries resulted in a big ol' red X at the turnstile, I had to run over to the ticket booth to get reissued a new card (a flimsy paper one) - no more Mickey on my card (sorry Donald)
As soon as we had the Rose & Crown in our sights, we spotted Mary Poppins standing to the side all alone! First photo op! Alice was only a few steps away. Both ladies were surprised to see both our names were Jennie and we were both celebrating milestone birthdays. Alice compared us to Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum. Was that a complement??
Ah, Rose & Crown. First stop on our DATWS tour. We had picked up really cool lanyards and personalized cards to wear around our necks that had to be signed by a CM at each country to verify our drink purchase. Only two stops had ever seen these cards. I picked up a Golden Pub Blend (half Stella Artois/half Bass Ale) and Jennie 1 grabbed a Leaping Leprechaun (Bacardi Rum, Skyy Vodka, melon liquer, sweet & sour and splash sprite) which tasted like original Gatorade, Delish!! Both were in souvinear glasses.
We had purchased the Epcot Passports to record our journey so the day became a scavenger hunt for beverages, Kidcot stops and characters . Oh what a journey it was! We found the UK Kidcot station in the back of The Toy Soldier but before we reached the table, I had noticed no one in line for Winnie the Pooh & Tigger too! We set down our drinks and bags and ended up having a dance party with the characters! Kisses, hugs and cutting the rug - what madness! The Photopass dude caught every minute and let us know Tigger was quite twitterpated! Hands down, best meet & greet ever!!
We had to go all the way around the store to get back to the Kidcot station since back tracking was not an option (a crowd had formed to watch the impromptu dance party). By the time we made it to the Kidcot area, everyone was talking about the two ladies and how loud the laughter was. We were delighted to admit to our new UK friends that was us! We also discovered one of the girls was leaving for home that week and was not to happy about it.
While walking over towards Canada, the gate to the Millenium Pavilion opened. I had never seen the gate open outside of the F&WF so we hightailed it over there. Holy Smokes!!! it was a character bonanza!! Brier Bear, Mr. Penguin, Pluto, Mickey, Goofy, Chip & Dale and Gideon from Pinocchio were all there waiting for us!! BONUS!! We took pics, acted silly and did some more dancing with Chip & Dale. As we made our way out, we noticed the gate was closed. They had only allowed about 30 people inside before they closed it! We had participated in a secret VIP meet and greet. I almost cried! At that moment, we heard the bagpipes and I knew Off Kilter was on stage!
We finished the rest of our drinks while enjoying some music (they are always such a great time!) and headed off the see O Canada! I hadn't seen the version with Martin Short nor do I remember how beautiful the Canada pavilion is. Victoria Gardens took my breath away. After the movie, we did a quick stop at the Kidcot station and purchased a Torontopolitan slushie to share. Very tasty drink, think cosmo with a strong Creme de Cassis taste. We strolled along the walkway towards Mexico sipping our drink and saw Duffy was in town but didn't stop. Sorry, but I'm not a big Duffy fan.
By the time we reached Mexico, our glass was empty. Next stop on the DATWS tour, Hacienda de San Angel. Scott & I stopped here in October right after it opened. It's pretty but I miss the old structure, the new one is too imposing. We purchased a frozen Passion Fruit Margarita (WOW!) and a Dos Equis Lager, shot a few pics in front of the pyramid and searched for the Kidcot station. It was the easiest to find - as soon as you walk in the pyramid. We toured the pavilion, Jennie 1 & Joe went on the Gran Fiesta Tour then Jennie & I did a half shot of 7 Leguas Tequila - the Sangrita chaser was sooooo yummy!
Norway was a bit calmer. We opted for Voss water to get our DATWS credit and sat down at a table outside the bakery to enjoy our packed lunch. Afterwards, we did a quick stop in the Stave Church where Jennie 1 did not notice the glass pane in front of the artifacts and smacked her face into the glass! Good thing we purchased only water in Norway! We walked right on to Maelstrom and I finally found the hidden Mickeys in the mural. Of course we had to stop by the big Troll at Puffin's Roost and take some pics with Viking gear on. A very quick stop at the Kidcot since the CM was not very friendly and we stormed on to China.
We went to the Joy of Tea stand first to pick up a CantoLoopy (vodka & cantaloupe juice) and I could kick myself for not trying one before then. Quite tasty, I'd rank it third fave after the slushies in France (which I could hardly wait for - saving the best for last!!) We ran into Mulan next to the entrance to Reflections of China. I had never met her before, such a sweet young lady!! After the movie, we were amazed at the tomb warriors display while waiting in line for the Kidcot station.
It was dark by the time we passed the Refreshment Coolpost so we picked up a Strawberry Fanta Slushie (yummo!) and decided Germany would be our final country for the day since we would return later that week.
Snow White was still by her Wishing Well so we got in line and enjoyed watching her interact with guests. She definitely is the fairest of them all! Breathtaking! We stopped for some pretzels (of course) and I nearly passed out upon entering the Caramel Shop. It took us a while to decide on what to purchase. I don't know what anyone else had, I only know I fell in love with my Vanilla Caramel Cupcake. I did a quick stop in the Weinkeller and purchased the Wine Walk for $20. Two 2oz. samples each in Germany, Italy & France. In Germany, the wines are both sweet, Valckenberg Madonna Spatlese & Liebfra Umilch. I didn't care much for either.
By this point, we were spent. And hungry for a real meal. We walked through Future World as everyone was heading into World Showcase for Illuminations. We noticed Test Track had a 10 minute wait (unheard of!!) so we did a quick spin. We wondered if Soarin' had such a little wait as well so we crossed over to check it out and lo & behold 20 minute wait!!! We couldn't pass that up either, dinner could wait a little longer.
Of course, since we were drop-dead tired, the bus depot at Epcot had to be very far out of the way, especially OKW stop - it's #1, furthest away from the exit!! We were nearly crawling onto the bus. I took a little nap on the ride home.
Back at Room 5230, we fixed a quick dinner; Buffalo Chicken Wraps (spiceeeee!!) with side salads. Tossed the dishes in the dishwasher and hit the sheets.
Total number of Characters visited: 15!!!! Whoo hoo.
Funny, all the talk about going to ESPN to watch the Superbowl and we never even thought about it. Honestly, I probably would have slept thru it at that point!!
