Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The "We either need more Motrin or less kids' Trip report, August - Sept 2010 - UPDATED 11/7: Final Day

Well, there you have it. Our trip report is affectionately called : The "We either need more Motrin or less kids" trip report. This is not to at all to say the kids were ill behaved or a handfull. It was just a chore to keep track of all 4 of the little darlings all the time with thier varied interests and opinions. Luv ya kids! So here are the players:
Victoria:

15 years old and earned her learner's permit two days before we started our vacation off by driving to Florida. She was a tremendous help driving and did very well. VERY proud of her.

Jordan:

13 years old Daddy's girl, Ariel fan, and loves all things Disney. Entering her last year of Middle School.
Brendan:

11 years old and all boy. Chose to grow his hair out this year, no doubt preparing to become a skater boy once school starts this fall. He can do things on roller blades that make me knee ligaments cringe just watching him.

Cheyenne:

11 years old and animal lover. Geuss which park is her favorite? I think she could watch the festival of the Lion King all trip long and be perfectly happy.
Liz:

The lady who needs no introduction. My true real life princess, who is gracious enough to not make me totally let go of my fairytale princess. (You all know who that is, right?) Tinkerbell does NOT have a bigger fan than Liz, and NOTHING at Disney gives me a harder time than Tinkerbell. (More on that later)
Me, I'm Brent:

But for the last few weeks leading up to this trip I have actually felt (and sounded) more like Clark Griswold. My favorite princess is Cinderella, and I am quite fascinated by her (for those who don't know us, she helped me propose to my real life princess - LIZ_ , we've been inseparable since) I like Disney because it is the one place I can wear Cinderella T-shirts and not be given a hard time for it. (Well, except from the kids anyway.) Oh and I can always seem to make Cinderella smile.

We started out at about noon on Sunday the 22nd after the kids properly decorated the windows:

We took turns driving and had dinner at a Cracker Barrel in Kentucky. A place we found out later that Cam22 frequents. Sorry Cam! We should've given you a shout before hand and met you there for dinner! As luck would have it we were seated next to a family actually driving BACK from Disney to Michigan. What are the odds??
After a good dinner we were ready for the road. We took turns driving all night and arrived at Pop around 10:00 am. The room was not ready, so we had some food and walked around the resort. The room was ready around 1, we were in the 50's section by the bowling pin pool on the 4th floor. Loved it! We also had one of the refurbed rooms with a flat screen TV, a curtain separating the sink area and new carpet and bedspreads. Very nice! Then we went to Walmart for a few things, then it was off to Boatwrights for dinner. This is when having a car at Disney comes in handy. Travelling from resort to resort by bus can be time consuming. Boatwrights has excellent steak! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Then we walked around the resort a little and I was quite impressed. I definitely wouldn't mind staying here sometime. Then it was back to POP for a swim and early to bed as were all a bit whipped from the long drive. Besides, Tomorrow it as Magic Kingdom in the morning and our first encounter with Tink, Cinderella, and some surprise attention from Ariel! Tune in soon to find out what happened!
Brent

Here's a teaser:

Great start!

I the title of the TR! Definitely not one of the ones I would have thought of.

Your daughter's lucky that she was able to get her permit at 15 - here in NJ, you have to be 17 to get a permit and 18 to get your license. Except my birthday was at the cusp of the law change, I went away to college before I was 18, and ended up not driving until I was 19! She'll be fantastic from having such an early start.

Awesome that you got a renovated room at Pop! We're staying there this month, hopefully we'll get one of the updated ones. We're staying in '60's, and I've heard that only some of the 60's were updated (someone please let me know if I'm wrong about that), but I'm crossing my fingers for an update.

I love that you admit that you felt/sounded like Clark Griswold - DBF definitely won't admit it. He's an exact replica around Christmastime.

Can't wait to read more!! The pictures look great.

Got a question....we'll be at WDW the first week of October and will be staying at Pop. I've stayed at Pop Century before in the 50's section and really enjoyed that location. Are all the rooms in the 50's section refurbished? I read somewhere that they were still refurbishing the rooms in that section.
Thanks for the info help and can't wait to read more of your adventure!

Great start Brent - sounds like having the extra driver right in time for the trip really helped out. Glad you all enjoyed your dinner at Boatright's, you should really think of maybe staying there one trip, we love it there...never have had any problems, great service and the atmosphere is wonderful. The boat ride to DTD does not hurt either. Looking forward to hearing more and hearing Liz's take on the day.

There was a floor on a building in the 60's area that was closed down and they were ripping out carpet and putting new mattresses in and what not. That may or may not mean the 50's section was finished. We stayed in the building facing the pool nearest the lake. Good luck with the refurbed room!

We did really enjoy the whole vibe of Port Orleans riverside. Maybe someday we will give it a try.
Well off to work!

Great start to your TR! The title cracked me up and it's what made me start reading it.
Your car looked great all decorated up!

Not that it makes a difference now, but for future or anyone on here who reads it. I just wanted to give the warning about letting your teenager with a permit drive on interstate highways....

MANY, not all, states do not allow permitted drivers from other states drive on the highways. Some states do not allow permitted drivers from other states drive in their state at all. Also, some states do not allow even licensed drivers under the age of 18 on the highways. In most states the age to get a permit is 16 or older, so in those states driving with a permit at 15 yrs old, could be a serious offense.
So if you are going to do this I would check the driving laws for each state in which your permitted teen is driving to make sure you can't get into trouble. Nothing would make your vacation yucky, as getting into trouble.
I am giving this information because I worked at a driving school for 14 years in the state of MA. The "where you can drive while on a permit" is covered material. We had a lot of kids taking classes from out of state during summer vacation, so this is something that has come up, resulting in research on various states laws.

I can't specifically give you states but I do know CT is one of them that does not allow any drivers under the age of 18 on the highways licensed or not.

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

Nice start!

I, too, cracked up at the title of your TR, and just HAD to read it!

I'm reading SO many TRs right now I can barely keep up with whose TRs I am up to date with, LOL.

EDIT: I'll try to put up a PTR and I'll not update it any more if the trip ISN'T a go, we'll see, however.

BJ
