A Hidden Mickey Wedding and a Disneymoon with a newbie - PTR - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A Hidden Mickey Wedding and a Disneymoon with a newbie - PTR **WE'RE BACK!!!**
Hi Everyone!! Well it's almost that time again but since I do have a few months left to go I figured I would start my PTR now and share with you not only my Disneymoon plans but also the plans for the wedding.... now im sure if anyone has any interest in the wedding plans but if it helps im trying to incorporate hidden mickeys wherever I can.
Originally I had always planned to get married at Disney but with my fiancee's family being so large we knew a lot of people wouldn't be able to come....so we settled with a quaint Victorian inn near hubby's hometown. Although it doesn't really fit my theme I still really wanted to incorporate my love for the mouse (which hubby doesn't get yet...but soon will) as often as possible.
Inbetween the updates on the wedding i'll post plans for the Disneymoon (which have changed about 3 times already) so at least i'll be keeping y'all on your toes!
Introduction
Most of you know me on here as "nladams". Yes, lame user name I know. But when I originally signed up for passporter boards I thought you would be able to change your screen name after you make your log in information - If anyone ever frequents the DisBoards im ~*PrincessBelle*~ on there.....Anyhoo.....that's me! DSC02527.jpg
I am 23 years old living in good ol' southwestern Ontario with my DFi Ken (who's got a good 5 yrs on me ) I work for a medical software company as a client service administrator but wear many other career hats as well. I have been a medical office manager, radio news anchor, television news producer, legal assistant and much much more. DFi works as a motorcycle mechanic and does a lot of work with dirtbikes and grew up riding them too...he also loves hunting which i'm slowly getting into myself...
Here he is... DSC03832.jpg
Now don't panic.....but I should let you know that Ken is a total a Disney virgin .
His first experience will be our upcoming honeymoon. Now despite his "I don't get it" attitude with Disney he is so supportive of me. Since we started dating I have been on 3 Disney trips (1 with a girlfriend and 2 solo) and he even bought me my last solo trip as my Xmas present. He also sits through many Disney films with me ....even taking me to the theatres to see Wall-E when it first came out. I think we were the only grown-ups with no kids there
He won't admit it but he's such a big kid and secretly loves the kids movies (Up, Wall-E, Bolt, Lilo & Stitch, Finding Nemo). Not big into the Princesses but hey you can't win them all!
Me and Ken met almost 5 years ago. It was the summer before I was to go to college and I was working at Subway making sandwiches to try and pay for my tuition.
One hot summer day a really cute guy came into Subway with his friend. We chatted away while I made their subs and they happened to mention that they were going to get slushies after their subs. They payed their bill, ate their food, and were on their way but I couldn't stop thinking about this cute guy - wish I would of got his name.
About half an hour later as I was cleaning up near the end of my shift the cute came back. He had brought me a cream soda/pepsi slushie (how he knew this was my favourite i'll never know) but he said I could only have the slushie if I game him my number - I tell ya I don't think ive ever grabbed a pen or written my name down so fast in all my life!
About a week later we went on our first date. The longest date in history. He picked me up around 11:00 am and didn't come home till after 2:00 am. We had lunch, dinner, snacks, watched a movie (wedding crashers), went to the park, and just enjoyed each others company.
Fast forward 3 yrs to the Xmas of 2008. I had no idea that he was going to propose and we had planned to exchange one gift on Xmas Eve. Now the gift I choose to give was a total gag gift - a stuffed lemur from the Telus commercials (its a long story)
Here is what Ken unwrapped... DSC03795.jpg
And then I unwrapped a beautiful box which had "will you marry me" on it. I was floored! Such a shock...and the ring was so beautiful - and he picked it out all by himself!
Since Disney was out my next thought was Casa Loma in Toronto. It's a beautiful castle in downtown Toronto (hmmm...can you see a fairy tale theme emerging?) but after look at the prices for just the meal alone we decided that if wanted to actually eat for the next 15 yrs and not live out of a cardboard box that we would have to find something else.
Then I found the Elm Hurst Inn 8327_152830476282_501321282_3208121_5664633_n.jpg
Its a beautiful victorian B&B with a beautiful garden in the back. It has such a nice little treed area with a pond for the ceremony.....and the reception is going to be held in the grand ballroom...another beautiful space with lots of windows.. ballroom-2009.jpg
After one visit to the Elm Hurst I knew this would be the place....I just loved the vintage feel the place had and the food they have there is to die for!!
About a month ago we had our first tasting and I can't wait for the wedding now just so I can eat again! Here is what we picked for the menu
Appetizer
Tomato and roasted red pepper soup
Salad
Baby spinach salad
Young spinach leaves, hard cooked eggs, button mushrooms, red onion & warm bacon vinaigrette
Entrée
Roast top sirloin Bourguignon
Caramelized Bermuda onions, cured pancetta in a Portabella mushroom Burgundy wine sauce. Served with roast parisienne potatoes, steamed broccoli spears with toasted garlic and maple glazed baby carrots
Dessert
Lemon & Raspberry Tart
with crème fraiche
Coming up next ...a look our non traditional wedding cake

Thanks everyone for the congratulations!! Im so excited to share my plans with all of you....
and I guess that brings us to the cake.
I knew from the beginning that I didn't want a "traditional" cake. From looking at the venue I was slowly coming out with a dark purple and black/white damask theme for the reception. I found this cake online and INSTANTLY fell in love.... cake.jpg
now mine I will be changing up the colour and the there will be no monogram on top just more flowers....now which colour to choose? I had my cake lady do a sketch of the cake in purple..... Nynke[1].jpg
but it still wasn't right....once my cake lady got wind of my black and white damask theme she suggested just doing it in black and white I was a little apprehensive at first but now i'm super excited about it..it is going to look soooo sharp! and with all the big windows and light in the hall it wont look as dark as it does in this sketch....and it will be placed on top of a purple runner not green like in the picture...I know it's not for everyone but I love it!! Nynke Black and White Option.jpg
Now to the important part...the flavour!! Since we have 4 tiers I wanted to have 4 different flavours for our guests to try - well if you have more than 3 flavours in a cake it's more money so 3 flavours it is. We decided on a vanilla with raspberry filling, a chocolate with german chocolate filling, and (my favourite) a pineapple carrot cake. Now I hate carrot cake but this was AWESOME!! tasted just like a tropical spice cake - delicious!!
Now your probably wondering about the hidden mickey - now that the cake is black and white we're going to incorporate mickey head shapes into the damask pattern..I can't wait to see how it turns out!!
I LOVE YOUR CAKE!! I think it is a very cool idea about the hidden Mickeys. I look forward to seeing pictures of that and hearing more about your plans. We also Honeymooned in Disney World and that was my DH first trip. He's hooked now. We have been back 4 about to be 5 times since we have been married. We just celebrated our 7th anniversary in March.
