As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

On Thursday I was getting ready for bed and went to let the dogs out one last time before heading off to sleep. It is getting cooler at night here in New Jersey and the crickets are out in full force. The lowest room in my house – laundry room – is where I let the dogs in and out. That part of my house is just on cement slab not a foundation like the rest of it and the crickets sneak in.
Now if you know me at all you would know I’m the worst scaredy-cat when it comes to bugs. So as I let the dogs out a see a cricket on the wall near the door. Now I just had the exterminator come the week before and I’ve been finding dead crickets or almost dead ones for a few days. So I grabbed the Raid and gave the cricket a quick shot. I expected it to just fall down dead. But NO this thing leaps across the room like 15 feet. It totally freaked me out me out and I jump out of its way.
It was then I felt this incredible pain in my ankle (I hit into a wooden table- not sure what part of it but it is pretty sturdy). “Oh my God, I just broke my ankle” I thought. After rolling around in pain for a few minutes and wondering how I’m going to get to the ER…should I drive? Should I wake up Evan? Call for a ride from Mom or brother? After that I realized my ankle wasn’t so bad. I stood up and could put pressure on it so I figured I didn’t break it. I had some trouble walking up the stairs but that is understandable. I grabbed some ice for it and went to bed.
Friday morning the alarm goes off. Ankle doesn’t feel too bad and it isn’t swollen. I carefully get out of bed and realize I can’t bend my ankle. It was than I realized I must have hurt my Achilles tendon. A visit to the ER confirms I have a partial to complete tear.
I’m all splinted right now and waiting to go see the surgeon on Tuesday. I’m preparing for the worst (surgery) but hoping for the best (just time and therapy). My ankle actually feels pretty good right now but everything else hurts form the crutches.
I’ve never been on crutches before and have absolutely no arm strength so right now my shoulders hurt, my armpits hurt my back hurts and my good leg hurts from me standing on it so much. It is really hard to build up the arm strength but even harder to have lost the use of my arms. I can’t carry anything.
Well I could really use some pixies please as I try to get into a new routine all the while trying to keep things normal for my son.
In a perfect world I won’t need surgery but I’m not holding out much hope for that. I do hope at least that this will all be done (crutches and cast) by Christmas so I won’t have that to deal with along with everything else.
I’m super duper glad this didn’t happen last year as we left for Disney on 10/13 – so I suppose I should be thankful for the little things.
To tie it all into Disney, on Friday night I was waiting for my mom to come over so we could get some dinner and Evan was with me and Mulan was just coming on. We watched the first 15 minutes or so and in the beginning when Mulan’s Grandmother finds a lucky cricket for Mulan. I just yelled at the screen – “I don’t have any lucky crickets here”

Crutches suck. Did you get some extra padding for the tops of them? Those make a big difference in how comfortable crutches are. I had to be on them for over two weeks just as I began classroom observation prior to my teaching internship due to having gotten tendinitis in the top of one foot. Thankfully, I was off them by the time I had to begin student teaching, but having to hobble up and down two flights of stairs four or more times each weekday was not fun.
People think that a broken ankle must be more painful than other ankle injuries, but tendon rips, tendinitis and sprains can actually be far worse, the doctor told me.
You have my empathy and wishes for a speedy and satisfactory recovery.

It must be in the air. I fell last Saturday and ended up spraining my ankle. I attempted to walk around the office on crutches (my first pair too), but I was horrible at it. Luckily they let me work from home the rest of last week. I hope you have a quick recovery.
Oh Lord, don't get me started on crickets. We have "cave crickets" that like to inhabit our (partial) finished basement. Dh always laughs at my screams and I tell him how they're the size of small children, jump 45 feet in the air and AT me not away. Speaking from someone who just got off crutches for jacking up my ankle/foot/knee: they're awful. My non-hurt leg killed but mostly the heel of my hands from the pressure. Take lots of Motrin. I did put a desk chair (on wheels) in the kitchen so at least I could roll around and cook. Good luck with the doctor and I'm hoping for you to have a speedy recovery!!
