(This is Main Street by Angie, who is working on art goals here on the blog!)
This has been a personal project to blog every day for a school year on goals and dreams. My hope was that I could find a group of people to work with me.
I was lucky enough to find a small, but sincere group of inspirational people to keep me company. We've been using Walt Disney's philosophies or creations as inspiration.
I am no longer blogging daily, but I am notified if comments are posted, and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going!

Home #1-Do you have cowboys in your spaceship?
Walt Disney was a pioneer when it came to the multi-theme park and immersion without distraction. If you really look closely, you'll notice that every land is carefully crafted from the sidewalks and lighting to cast member appearence. If you listen you'll hear jungle music only in Adventure Land and drift into cowboy music only as you go into Frontierland. In the World Showcase, your nose and taste buds can only experience Germany or Asia in the proper pavillion, surrounded by the appropriate scenery. And movement...well...you can drift lightly on just about any glittering attraction in fantasyland while your ride in the Space Mountain Attraction or Test Track will have you screaming.
Is creating designated theme areas and trying to keep those areas true to purpose worthwhile at home?
Looking around my house, I realized that I had cowboys in my spaceship. I'd let the different "themes" of my belongings drift into other areas. That is a drain on my energy and focus when I want to wrap my head around a task and get it done quickly.
I am self-employed and have a home office downstairs. YIKES! There is no working printer downstairs, so I bring files upstairs to my computer. I've end up with a main office downstairs with a satellite office upstairs.
I was on the phone working out a contract yesterday, and I had to run up and down the stairs a few times to find a file. It takes some time and running and I usually end up tripping over a cat.
Would I be more productive if I had designated spaces for each of my roles, like writer, therapist, housekeeper, relaxaholic, etc.?
It kind-of feels as if a cast member in full Frontierland uniform ran into the Space Mountain Control Center to look for next week's schedule. It just is not the best way to focus on the theme at hand.
Last blog, we talked about inspiration and momentum. (Well, actually a handful of people talked...a few more just read.) Anyway, the concept of distractions or clutter also came up.
Before we possibly move on to create pockets of inspiration in our space, I'm curious... do you feel that creating designated theme areas and trying to keep those areas true to purpose is worthwhile?
PLEASE give me your opinions, even if you hate the idea, because that tells me to move on to another idea.
Remember, the space does not have to be large. Some people might work on creating a theme in a file box or scrapbook case, while others might be designing a garden or a whole house.
Have a happy Saturday!

Here is an update. I am separating the cowboys and spacemen in my filing. I have a handful of jobs, each with their own separate projects and files. Somehow, these have gotten somewhat mixed up. What I've been doing today is separating all my files in such a way as I'll be able to easily put my hands on any document by category.
So far, I've created a theme drawer for College Professor, a theme drawer for writer with my projects and articles, and I've separated my therapy clients into two separate drawers...one for the home practice and one for the school practice.
Is ANYONE working along with me here? Please tell me about any project that this may have inspired.
If not, how about just a wave to cheer me on?
Gotta run now and lasso those cowboys to coral them back to Frontierland.
Carry on!0 Pixie Dust

I have to theme my bookshelves, or I'd never find a book I was looking for. Starting in the back of the house and working forward - my bedroom has Bible study books and reference materials and other religious-themed books, the shelf in the hallway has my set of 100 Great Books, the shelf in the nook has mainly classic literature books, but also my John Grisham and Left Behind books. The shelf from the den has Little House books and Disney. And the little shelf in the dining room (I'm really running out of space!) has field guides of various sorts. The built-ins in the den have additional sets of books, history books and other household reference volumes.
As far as tasks, I think it's an excellent idea to have themed areas. It should automatically make a person more efficient in their jobs. I wish I could get more organized, it's just a matter of not having enough dedicated space. Sometimes I have to combine things when I'd rather not.0 Pixie Dust

I'm starting the home organization process again for a new area and, while I do this, I'll be modifying the titles to they are easier to separate.
This week-end I need to work on the relationship between my dining room table and my downstairs office. Because the only working printer is set up on the table at the moment, most of my office work has trickled up there.
So, yes, once again, the answer is yes! I have cowboys in my spaceship!0 Pixie Dust

Round 2 of the home theme project

The theme here needs to be a place for everything and everything in it's place.0 Pixie Dust
