iPhone, I Travel: Take Your Trip to the Next Level with iPhone
In the last three decades, three tools have changed my life: the Apple Macintosh computer in the late '80s, the Internet in the early '90s, and now the iPhone. Yeah, I know it sounds corny, but it's true. The iPhone is a unique combination of the two tools that empower me -- a personal computer and the Internet -- wrapped up in a small, easy-to-use, intuitive device that I can carry with me practically everywhere I go.
I'm so in love with the way my iPhone empowers me that I want to tell the world about it. Last time I felt this way, I became an author to share my passions (and most of you know where that's lead me). This time I'll be content with a blog. Perhaps the information on this page will make you seriously consider an iPhone. Or maybe you already have one and are looking for help making the most of it on your trip. Then again, maybe you've just seen me carrying my iPhone around everywhere I go and want to know why I'm such a geek. Now you'll know! (And just in case you're worrying about me, I'm not alone in my love for the iPhone -- the iPhone is Time Magazine's "Invention of the Year.")
This blog is the place to get short articles and tips on using the iPhone while travelling. And to demonstrate how amazing the iPhone is, I'll be writing and submitting all of these articles on my iPhone itself, while I'm away from my computer and/or travelling. Please check back for more each day!

Posting Photos Instantly to the Web with iPhone (Method 1: iPhoneSlide + WordPress Blog)
Posted 01-11-2008 at 02:15 PM by Jennifer Marx
My most recent trip to Walt Disney World was one of my best! Why? Thanks to my iPhone, I was able to share the experience in real-time with the folks back home through hundreds photos taken on my iPhone. You can view my travel photos -- which I called a "Window Seat" -- at this link: http://ask.passporter.com
I've gotten many requests on how other iPhone users can share their photos immediately like this. So here's the step-by-step method I used on my trip in December 2007:
Step 1: Get a Free WordPress Blog
Go to http://www.wordpress.com and click the big Sign Up Now button to get your own free WordPress.com blog right away. Here's the direct link to get a blog: http://wordpress.com/signup/. Once the process is complete, make a note of the blog (should be yourusername.wordpress.com) and your password. [Note: You could also use Blogger.com or Typepad.com, but I haven't tried them out personally.]
Step 2: Double-Check Your Mail Setup on Your iPhone
In order for step 3 to work, you'll need to be able to send and receive e-mail on your iPhone, so now is the time to set it up if you have not. Tip: If you don't want to use your regular e-mail address on your iPhone, get a free e-mail account (i.e., http://www.gmail.com) and use that instead.
Step 3: Take a Photo and E-Mail It
Take a photo with your iPhone, or find one you've already taken. While viewing the photo on your iPhone, tap the share icon in the lower left corner (looks like a box with an arrow) and tap Email Photo. An email form will pop up -- address the email to post@iphoneslide.com, then type both a subject line (the title of the photo perhaps) and some text inside the e-mail, above or below the photo (i.e., a photo caption or longer description). Send the mail. You will get an auto-response e-mail. Click the link in that e-mail to select the services you want to upload to (i.e., WordPress).
Voila! Your photo will be posted to your WordPress blog within seconds, in most cases! iPhoneSlide.com will post the photo, the subject line, and the text inside the e-mail you sent.
Note that after you initially setup iPhoneSlide.com, you won't need to enter your blog address or password again. But you will keep getting the confirmation e-mails after upload, and you'll need to confirm that you want to post each photo. So once everything is setup, it's a two-step process: (1) send the photo & (2) check the mail and confirm the upload. Sometimes the confirmation mail comes back immediately, but I have seen it take a few minutes during busier periods.
I was able to upload over 250 photos this way during my trip! While I would have preferred a one-step process (just upload and forget about it), I became accustomed to the extra step. Knowing that folks back home were getting a kick out of my photos was a great motivator!
Note: Members of the PassPorter.com community saw all my photos posted in a special forum. I did this using an RSS feed from my WordPress blog. All WordPress blog users have an RSS feed, but the forum postings were something special I set up as a board administrator. That said, I am willing to accept RSS feeds of vacation photos from other community members, if you'd like to share them with the community as I did. Contact me to get this setup!
I know of at least one other way to share photos with your iPhone -- stay tuned for more details.
