(This is Main Street by Angie, who is working on art goals here on the blog!)
This has been a personal project to blog every day for a school year on goals and dreams. My hope was that I could find a group of people to work with me.
I was lucky enough to find a small, but sincere group of inspirational people to keep me company. We've been using Walt Disney's philosophies or creations as inspiration.
I am no longer blogging daily, but I am notified if comments are posted, and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going!

Goal buddies

Today I got to listen to one of the counselors at work do an AMAZING intervention with a couple of students. I thought to myself, I wish when I was growing up I had someone who could help me make sense of it all.
Later I had an energized discussion with one of my top goal buddies, Doreen. I walked away feeling like I had better clarity on what I want to do. It's great to have an executive business coach as a friend.
Then, over Sushi, I had a wonderful conversation, with my longtime friend Sal, and I walked away feeling refreshed and renewed. It's great to have a friend who is a teacher and a therapist.
It finally occurred to me...I am still growing up! And I have plenty of wise and caring people who keep me on the straight and narrow.
And, for that, I am very thankful!
And there's today's blog!

In time, Todd, you can collect those teachers for yourself along the way. I think you just have to decide what types of friendships you want to cultivate.
For example, my friendships pretty much center around honesty, open, insight-seeking, and my big constant NO illegal drugs or shenannegans! I don't judge, but I find that the types of people I connect with feel the same on those issues, so it doesn't seem to ever be a problem. I really like to say no gossip, and I know the people I am closest to would like to say the same thing, BUT, being human....
As far as activities, places to meet, and things like that, they vary from friend to friend. I have internet friend's I've never met, (as well as internet acquaintances, which is different), I have friends who I'm almost attached to by cell phone, and some who it seems like I meet weekly for dinner. I have one interesting developing academic "friendship" that centers around nothing but challenging debate and planning to try and come up with research projects. Sometimes it seems like the grown up version of "Let's put on a show!", which was a game I played as a kid. We'd write and practice some sort of show, then we'd drag our parents over and perform the play for them. Only now, we'll be dragging editors over!
WOW! Sorry, that was a long response. I should have just summarized that I am SO THANKFUL for great people in the world!0 Pixie Dust
