(This is Main Street by Angie, who is working on art goals here on the blog!)
This has been a personal project to blog every day for a school year on goals and dreams. My hope was that I could find a group of people to work with me.
I was lucky enough to find a small, but sincere group of inspirational people to keep me company. We've been using Walt Disney's philosophies or creations as inspiration.
I am no longer blogging daily, but I am notified if comments are posted, and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going!

Sit down tests and fighting fires
Posted 02-13-2010 at 05:01 PM by Sandra Bostwick
I suppose my formula might be: dream, diversify and never miss an angle.
Walt Disney
Today I ran into an old friend. This is a woman with an amazing story that includes adopting two sons and donating a kidney to her husband, but I'll gloss right over that to get to my point.
Her son who, by the way, saved the life of a choking woman before he was legally old enough to drink, is hesitating on taking a sit-down test for firefighting because he is not the greatest sit-down test taker.
Without skipping a beat, I suggested that she just tell him to sign up, study the manual, and take the test as a "practice" test.
I tell that to so many of my students to do that with tests, and it takes the edge off enough that they can at least try it and, often, succeed!
Sometimes, in order to move forward with a goal, it helps to take the pressure off. That doesn't mean do a sloppy job, but it does mean hitting print, clicking send, or making the choice to sit down and do something on the record.
So, that is what I'm thinking about today.
By the way, only about three and a half months left of the blog! I am more than half-way through my school year of blogging every day!

WooHoo!!! That was really good advice. I know a lot of people that "freeze" up when they have to take the test; but when you are quizzing them and there is no pressure to do well - they are Aces!!!! I hope that he does well! Sounds like a wonderful young man... with lots of potential!!!0 Pixie Dust

I am a terrible test taker. No matter how long i study or if i even take a practice test, the moment the test is put in front of me, my mind blanks. I still fail the test but, sometimes i pass the test. Too bad my test taking anxiety is genetic. I am working through the anxiety and the pressure build up but, i know that i will get there eventually.......0 Pixie Dust

Tests = Pressure . . . and i can NOT do that.
If you gave me a paper and pencil test about Criminal Justice i would get about 70 - 85%
But if you give me a real-life simulation and acting on my feet with hands on activites, i will get a 90+%0 Pixie Dust
