Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

(This is Main Street by Angie, who is working on art goals here on the blog!)

This has been a personal project to blog every day for a school year on goals and dreams. My hope was that I could find a group of people to work with me.

I was lucky enough to find a small, but sincere group of inspirational people to keep me company. We've been using Walt Disney's philosophies or creations as inspiration.

I am no longer blogging daily, but I am notified if comments are posted, and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going!

Tech glitches and relationships

Interesting!

Yesterday's blog entry did not save! My computer is still having troubles here, and for some reason it has not been sending emails or blog entries properly. I found a whole bunch of emails that had been saved as drafts.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Yesterday counts as the first official day I missed since I started my goal to blog every day for a school year.

I hope all two people who read this will forgive me!

I have to admit, though, it makes me wonder about communication these days. My internet was completely out for several hours yesterday, possibly because of this blizzard.

I got a simple text "Help me" from a PassPorter on my cell phone. As soon as I read it, I panicked and called her to find that she was at a family party.

"Didn't you get my email?" she asked.

"No, my internet has been down," I said.

Apparently, a funny email had preceded this text, but I had not been able to sign on to read it!

And this is one way technology can create some silly situations.

I've heard of people who get all upset because they sent a friend request to someone's Facebook Page and they were ignored. Well, that assumes that the person still signs on AND that they can sort through the hundreds of gifts, requests, and pokes! But I now see people making decisions about relationships based on what happens on social networking sites. DON'T DO IT! You may be hurt over someone's visual scanning error!

Here, I've had a few people send visitor messages that get lost in all the graphics that are sent. Later, I'll hear a mention that they felt ignored. (BTW, If you send a visitor message and I don't tag you back, send it again. It was probably lost! I have over 11,500 PassPorter visitor messages in the year since the system started, not counting thousands of private messages that came in.)

Our messages can be lost in Spam, lost in the shuffle, or sent to the wrong email address altogether. It just takes one wrong digit!

And how about all these forwards! Every once in a while, I'll be guilty of forwards, but I am pretty much not doing that because it snowballs for people. I must have about 100 email contacts (at least) and if each one sends me two forwards a week, that is 200 documents to review each week. OK, lets give each one one minute, so that is 3 and a half hours a week just looking at forwards. Now, some forwards really do make my day, but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I also have about 5 or 6 different email accounts. Some are opened less frequently than others because, well, there is just no time. So maybe I open an email account that has been neglected for a week and there are HUNDREDS of emails.

And I can't even FACE my Facebook page.

And then there was the people who might send an important message in a pack of a dozen forwards, then feel ignored if you don't respond. Sometimes you just can't sift through it all! Pick up the phone and call if you have something important to say! When forwards pile up, messages get lost and it doesn't make sense to get upset.

To me, that is the equivalent of waving to someone in a crowded room and throwing a fit because they blatantly ignored your greeting. Uhhhhhhhhhh, maybe what you thought was eye contact was me staring in your general direction without seeing you?

OK, this is starting to turn into a rant, but clearly, sometimes when you think you've reached out and touched someone online, a glitch will occur. It is a whole new layer of possible social misunderstanding.

What do you think? Have you ever had a tech glitch cause a rift in a relationship?

That's why I just LOVE anytime that I can get to actually talk to someone via a phone or better yet, Face-to-Face contact!!!! Anything can happen in cyberspace....But true friends allow each other "grace"....and I can't say that I have had the tech world cause a glitch as those that I do have only the internet to attach us... I will call and check bases with.... But if hubby texts me instead of calling me for something "important" and wonder why I didn't get back to him, he already knows that its his FAULT.....lol....

I hope your day got markedly better

It was a pleasure talking with you today, all because of technology that did go right.

A vague "help me" message would put me in a spin if I did not realize there was a humorous email prior to it. I think you di an amazing thing to at least check on that person regardless of the reason of the text. You took the time to make contact and Walt only knows where this person lives from you... what on earth could you have done even if that person did require help?
Anyway... I am sure that passporter appreciates your call in her "time of need"! You have been a saving grace in more ways than one... now I must go work on an important project that I feel could change my life!
