(This is Main Street by Angie, who is working on art goals here on the blog!)
This has been a personal project to blog every day for a school year on goals and dreams. My hope was that I could find a group of people to work with me.
I was lucky enough to find a small, but sincere group of inspirational people to keep me company. We've been using Walt Disney's philosophies or creations as inspiration.
I am no longer blogging daily, but I am notified if comments are posted, and I'll be happy to keep the discussion going!

Is texting while you talk trendy?

Last night I went out to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was the trendy kind of place that I have not visited in such a long time. Now, here is the interesting part.
So many people were sending or receiving texts. The messages were often shown to others and became part of the conversation. I saw this happening all over the room. It did seem to add an interesting dimension to the social atmosphere, but it was so unusual.
Is texting while you talk trendy?
The last time I got together with this group, in a different loud, crowded room where several people there were probably ex-students, I also noticed that many people were texting.
This reading phones, showing phones to others, and discussing what was written seems so common now.
I forgot to renew my membership to the trendy bar scene quite a few years back, and it is SO different now. I feel kind-of like I've been given a guest pass as long as I'm accompanied by a regular.
Like the couch potatoe who tries out an aerobics class, I'm obviously not in step with the others. I'm the visitor who'll be happy to use guest passes from time to time, but will probably never sign on for the extended membership.
So, bleaders, can you tell me? Is texting a part of your social life when you are out? Does it only happen in certain venues? When did all this start?

I don't even have my own cell phone! dh has texting on his prepaid cell, but about the only person he texts is his sil. Many times that's a better option than calling her, you never know how long you might get stuck on the phone with her! I too think it's kind of rude ... but since I'm not a part of that scene perhaps I'm not the right person to ask. I guess in some situations it might fit, but I'd rather just talk to somebody. Unless we're online obviously. Is this kind of the same thing?0 Pixie Dust

Janice said:i hate texting, even though i have an iphone, and no I do not do it while with my friends i think its sorta rude, unless someone is meeting us, and we cant hear, then I will text..
Janice, I was wondering if these people were not texting each other because it was so noisy. I'll bet, after what you said, that was what alot of people were doing.0 Pixie Dust
