To encourage our son to save his money (from allowance, birthdays, etc.) so he would have spending money for Walt Disney World, my husband and I told him we would match any dollar he managed to save. We also told him that he could keep any spending money he came back with from Walt Disney World. It worked like a charm! He not only saved a good amount of money (over $75), he gave close consideration to how he spent his money at Walt Disney World. It turns out he is much more careful about spending his own money than ours! If you are concerned about having to match a large amount, you could say you'll match the first $50 or whatever you are comfortable with. An added benefit --there was no begging for Mom and Dad to buy him something in every shop.
