General Travel Tip #16 - Pre-Pick Clothing for Kids

Traveling with several small children can make it challenging to find the right outfits (or any outfits!) for a day. To eliminate the guesswork or the child's second-guessing ("No, not those shorts, I want the other shorts..."), I have used the following system. Before we leave home, I write each child's name on a plastic grocery bag with Sharpie pen. If I need to have a specific outfit on a specific day (say, matching shirts for some event), I write the day on the bag too. That way, all I have to do is pull out the next day's bag of clothes for each child. It simplifies packing, finding clothes, and getting ready for the day. When we travel places that have multiple stops, I will pack one suitcase with the pre-packed clothing bags for the necessary days for that stop. I label the outside of the suitcase with painters' tape, again with my trusty Sharpie pen, with the location for the bag's contents. That eliminates having to take all the luggage for a 10-day trip into an overnight stop, for example.
