    You Discovered a PassPorter Tip!

Walt Disney World Tip #1890 - Close the 'Bank of Mom & Dad'

At level 3, you can mark this tip as a favorite!
I have independent adolescents. My three kids range from ages 9-15, two boys and a girl. Rather than listen to "Can you buy this for me" all during my vacation, for Christmas they each got a Walt Disney Gift card to spend at the park in any way that they wanted. I could make suggestions, like "Maybe you want to see what else is available" to my 9-year-old who wanted to buy the first thing he saw. But basically it gave them the freedom to spend their "fun" money on whatever they wanted, no questions asked. I didn't have to listen to them beg for everything they saw. And I had a set budget for the kids souvenirs. It made the kids feel like they had freedom and I felt like I avoided some whining. And the only stipulation that I had was that they could not go over their gift card amount and visit the Bank of Mom for a credit line. They took some of their piggy bank money to cover any little overages.
