    You Discovered a PassPorter Tip!

General Travel Tip #23263 - Car Trip Tip - Gas Station Dollars

At level 3, you can mark this tip as a favorite!
To keep my three kids' behavior on track on our long 18 hour drive to Walt Disney World, I use "Gas Station Dollars." You may be familiar with the "green, yellow, red" system from elementary school. This works the same way. If my children start to act out (fighting, yelling, whining, etc.) they get a warning. After the warning, they move to yellow, and then red if they poor behavior continues. The children can always reverse their colors if they work hard at fixing their behavior. When we reach the gas station or rest area, each child is given $3 if they are on green, and $1 if they are on yellow. Unfortunately, red gets nothing (except boring water and healthy snacks we had stocked in the car). They can choose to purchase something at the gas station, or save it for a bigger treat later in the day (or trip!). All I had to say was "warning!" and negative behavior stopped immediately!
