    You Discovered a PassPorter Tip!

Disney Cruise Line Tip #1359 - DCL Castaway Cay 5K

At level 3, you can mark this tip as a favorite!
Everyone knows that part of the "magic" onboard a Disney Cruise are the wonderful meals that are served whenever you want. However, few people are aware of the ways that are available to help burn the extra "energy" we all consume onboard. I am a casual runner and have found it VERY difficult to run while onboard. So when I checked my Personal Navigator the evening before our day at Castaway Cay, I was ecstatic to find that there was a family 5K that morning. The group of about 12 met immediately off the ship, and the crew member took us over to the map of the island to show us the running route, then off we went. The running trail took us past the family beach, Cookies BBQ, bike & float rentals, to the air strip, around the bike trail to the observation tower, then to Serenity Bay and back. This was not a race by any means, but designed to be a casual run. Throughout the course, the cast members that saw us running were cheering us on (things you typically only hear during race-like conditions). I recall hearing things such as "Keep your head up, you can finish," and, "It's not that hot...keep going, you can do it." In the end, the best part of the run was the finish (and not just because it was over!). Our group of 12 had randomly met together that morning, and there was little time for any conversation, as we needed to get started before the heat became too intense. But at the end, we cheered each other on to finish strong. Some of the group ended up finishing before the crew member had, but we stayed and waited for the last person to finish, with a few members of the group running up to them to finish the run together.
