Walt Disney World Tip #23802 - DVC Discount

If you happen to be a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Member, there is a list on the DVC member website of places (dining & shopping) in and around Walt Disney World that offer a discount (mostly 10%, but some places offer 15% and 20% off). On our recent trip in April 2014 as brand new DVC members, we got a 10% discount on our dinner at Sanaa (Animal Kingdom Lodge) and our lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe (Wilderness Lodge). What I discovered halfway through our vacation was that many places (but not all) will give you a DVC discount if you simply ask (and present your DVC member card); even if they are not listed on the DVC member website. For example, I was surprised to get a 10% discount at the "Stunt Show Food Cart" outside Lights, Motor, Action at Hollywood Studios, and we got a 10% discount when buying sunscreen at a souvenir cart at Animal Kingdom. After that, we started asking every time we made a purchase if they offered a "DVC Discount". A trip to WDW is filled with dining and shopping expenses. Why not get a discount if you have already made a significant investment in becoming a DVC member? In many cases, you simply need to ask.
