General Travel Tip #24394 - Gas Points on Disney Gift Cards

In order to help set aside spending money for the trip, I buy Disney gift cards from a national chain grocery store that offers fuel points. Gift cards typically earn fuel points at twice their face value (for example 50 points for a $25 card), but a few times per year they offer four times their face value--then I stock up! When a trip is approaching, I estimate how much money I will need (per day for discretionary spending money, or per meal if not on a dining plan, or per child for souvenirs, etc.) and then divide it up based on the number of paydays before the trip. At each payday I buy a card for the needed amount. By the time the trip arrives I have all my spending money, and can avoid using credit cards for the entire trip! I also earn discounts on gas as I go, and for the fill-up on the day we leave for Walt Disney World!
