General Travel Tip #23685 - Road Trip Rewards

Our family always drives to Disney World and it's a long way given we are from a suburb outside of Chicago. In order to survive our long journey with our four year old daughter at that time, we created a Magical Reward Box. First we took a good sized box and taped it closed (as if you were shipping something). Then we wrapped it in Disney wrapping paper with her favorite characters. Lastly, we cut a hand-sized slit through the top. Then I collected all sorts of goodies to fill it with. Such as, stickers, dollar bills for rest stop vending machines, autograph book, suckers, mini games, etc. Every time we stopped for whatever reason, and she had behaved in the car, we let her pick out one item from our Disney Magic Reward Box. It was a major success! This could easily be done for each child in a family for those with multiple children. Even older kids could be surprised with their own box filled with older kid surprises. Keep it a surprise though---our daughter was super excited when she got in the car and found her Disney Magic Reward box on her car seat!
