    You Discovered a PassPorter Tip!

Walt Disney World Tip #120 - Managing Souvenirs for Kids

At level 3, you can mark this tip as a favorite!
With three kids who want everything they see - souvenir shopping can be a big hassle and a big financial drain! Therefore, we use two guides for ourselves to make things palatable. First, we sit down with the kids and arrange a financial situation. Depending on how long the trip will be, we figure out how much THEY are willing to spend of their own money. For instance, on our last trip to Disney World/Universal Studios which lasted a week, they each decided they would spend $15 of their own money. We told them that we would match their $15 with $15 of our money, provided they agreed not to actually buy anything until the last day. That way, we spent the first days shopping around and deciding what they really wanted before they bought something and saw something else they wish they had. Second, I buy little souvenirs at home and take them with me to surprise the kids. When we went to Disney World, I got pirates wallets for the boys at the Disney Store on clearance for $2.99 and a plush Mickey for my daughter for $4.80 and brought them with us. I surprised the kids with them when we were leaving the hotel so they had something special to play with on the plane. It works great -- especially since spending your own money is not nearly as fun as spending someone elses!
