General Travel Tip #23989 - Double Check Hotel and Rental Car Rates

Booking motel rooms and car rentals early is good advice but I always check back about a month before my vacation date and it's amazing how much money I have saved. For example: I wanted a specific motel close to Orlando Airport for our night before an early flight home but didn't like the price so I reserved a cheaper room at another motel. I checked back with the original motel 5 weeks before our reservation night and found that for the same type of room, same night it was now advertised $22.00 cheaper than where I now held a reservation. I switched my reservation and now had the room at the motel that I really wanted for the best price. Same with rental cars. I searched all the companies with a location at the Orlando airport and booked the cheapest rate for a mid-size car. When I searched again closer to our vacation, Hertz was running a special and I got a full size car and paid a few dollars less than I was paying the other company for a mid-size. Yes, by all means, book early but don't just accept that rate - - look again closer to your vacation!
