Introducing Porter, PassPorter’s New Mascot! 14

Several years ago I decided I wanted a mascot for PassPorter. Something cute and lovable, of course, but also representative of PassPorter’s spirit of travel, adventure, support, and fun. And just as quickly as that, the perfect animal descended down into my mind’s eye … a pelican! Why would I choose a pelican? Here are a few reasons:

  1. Pelicans travel great distances.
  2. Pelicans can hold a lot of stuff!
  3. Pelicans are social.
  4. Pelicans are found around the world.
  5. Pelicans are thought to be particularly protective and attentive in mythology.
  6. A pelican helped our Disney friends Nemo, Marlin, and Dory in “Finding Nemo.”
  7. Pelicans are a symbol of abundance and generosity.
  8. Pelicans can soar!

These all fit perfectly with the PassPorter concept, as far as I’m concerned. Coming up with a drawing of a pelican that seemed right has taken much longer, however. But I’m pleased to report that I now have a sketch that I feel portrays the pelican I want for PassPorter:

This pelican was sketched by my best friend and artist, Greg Reese, who has been exceedingly patient in my requests for pelican sketches. I believe this is the fifth pelican he’s drawn for PassPorter. I love this little feathery guy—he seems friendly and welcoming, and ready to take on the world, don’t you think? I can totally hear him saying, “Follow me … I know this great place!”

So I’ve digitized and colored him, dressed him up a bit, and named him Porter:

Pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself! Expect to see Porter Pelican flying around PassPorter.com in the near future!
