What a (WDW) Character; Now Eat Your Breakfast! 10

* YUM! *

So a few weeks ago I posted a blog (“You Can Go To Disney in the Morning?“) about the fact that it’s amazing to me (ok insert sarcasm here) that Walt Disney World (“WDW”) actually operates in the morning hours! At that time, while expressing my amazement at the fact that so many guests can even function much less make it out to the parks for rope drop in the wee hours (8 am is too a wee hour! :-P) of the morning, I also made mention that I have actually made it not only out of bed, but out of the room and to a restaurant, once or twice, for breakfast as well! I know I was so proud of me too. πŸ˜€

Now I can’t say that this has happened more than twice, as it’s actually only happened exactly two times; however, they happened to be character meals! So, I will admit I was a bit apprehensive about us being adults-only at a character meal (and so early in the day! LOL), but let me say, once I was out the door and in line at the buffet with a few of my favorite pals: Mickey and Donald and Minnie and Goofy and Pluto (am I missing anyone?), they were more than happy to see this adult smiling and grinning from ear to ear with a few delicious Mickey waffles on her plate!

Have you ever done a character meal? How did you like it? Would you book one again?

Cape May Buffet

The first breakfast was with Goofy and friends over at Cape May Buffet (“CMB”). My mom and I decided to try there because the Yacht Club/Beach Club resorts area is her favorite place on property, and I have to say, it was amazing! We booked for one of their last seatings — hey baby steps! — and even with us being one of the few guests left by the end of our first plate, we were never rushed, the characters didn’t skip us, and there was still enough fresh food out if we were able to eat all that we wanted (my jeans were thankfully restricting that urge — and my breathing, but that’s a good thing sometimes!).

I have a few pictures from that morning; however, for as much as I love my mom, her lack of understanding how my cell phone camera worked didn’t yield the greatest pictures of me. LOL Thankfully hers came out great! (Although I wish the quality was a little better!)

Goofy & Mom @ CMB

and

Me & Donald @ CMB

We actually had a really great time, and I have to say I really want to try and make it back over there one of these trips as the food was really good and the characters were very interactive even with it being just the two of us. The variety of food choices seemed to have a lot more fruits and eggs and “fresh” offerings, other than the usual bacon, waffles, etc. However, with my limited morning appearances at the buffets, perhaps there isn’t really a major difference between locations?

Do the different breakfast buffets provide any breakfast items that are unique to its location/restaurant?

Chef Mickey’s

Our second experience was over at Chef Mickey’s (“CM’s”) inside the Contemporary Resort. That was a super fun meal, but mainly because we were seated literally two tables over from the guys in Boys II Men; they were on property for their appearance during Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival! Now don’t get me wrong, the napkin waving, which is one of the mealtime rituals at this eatery, was cute, but, admittedly, I chickened out and ran up to the buffet line to get out of having to throw crumbs all over my neighbors! *snickers* What? I was totally only thinking of them! πŸ˜€

The rest of the meal, though, was satisfactory food-wise. Everything was fresh and hot (if you got that sort of item!), and there was plenty of everything, but I don’t remember a plethora of fruit, etc. like I do for CMB. Regardless, I got some great pictures of the characters — mostly from a distance or with our neighboring tables (although there are a couple with us too!), but some of the candid shots were *chuckles* priceless!

Minnie & "Friend" @ CM's

Um, yeah, this was right next to our table, and I was (and still am!) laughing so hard when I noticed this completely innocent, albeit very hilarious, “hug” on Minnie that this little girl had. So, like any good person with a devious send of humor, I grabbed my camera! *laughs harder*

Ok, ok, there are other more family-friendly pictures that we took:

Minnie @ CM's * See? She's fine! *laughs*

And, of course:

Goofy @ CM's

Hmm, and interestingly enough there are no pictures of Mickey! Oh well, he was definitely there; however, he was probably avoiding the inevitable napkin-to-the-eye-if-you’re-not-careful too!

In any event, I just wanted to write about the great experiences — even if it’s only been two thus far! — we’ve had while also finding out about which of your own meals were just as memorable, because — yes! — you can be an adult at the character meals and eat in the morning at WDW!

So until next time!

About aliceinwdw

Hi there! Nice to meet you. That's a nice name. Oh, interesting; that sounds like a fun job. You're from where? Really? No, I'm kidding...really? How do you spell that?? Oooh, me? I'm Kelly. I am a full-time Disney daydreamer, planner, and, now, blogger. In the *real* world, somewhere near Detroit, MI, I tend to be be ever busy solving life's daily conundrums, serving up vacation planning advice, or simply somehow saving the day (aren't we all?). As for my love of Disney, I share that with my DH, as well as our furry "kids;" although, perhaps, they don't love it quite as much as we do! In any event, since our "little ones" can't accompany us to Walt Disney World each year, we have discovered so many of the fun and wonderful experiences available to us adult-only travelers -- and I am so thrilled to share all of this with you! ** So, last time, you'll never believe what they had...

I think it really depends on what character you want to see? Some of our favorites are:

    – 1900 Park Fare has Alice & Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, & Pooh & Friends.

    – Cape May Cafe with Mickey & Friends in nautical wear

    – Chef Mickey with Mickey & the Gang

    – Garden Grill with Chip & Dale

    – ‘Ohana with Mickey & Friends, Lilo & Stitch in tropical wear

Here is a link to the Disney Food Blog with a great short article with other links for Characters Meals by Characters (great chart), travel time, price, types of food available, food quality, noise level, and time of day: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/disney-world-character-meals/

Love the breakfast at The Poly with LILO and Stitch and more!! It’s family style all you can eat and a must every trip!! The eggs are fabulous!!!! Plus the Juice and pastries cant be beat!

I love the ‘Ohana breakfast at the Polynesian, too! Once my boyfriend and I went for my birthday, and when they got the kids to march around the restaurant to the “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” song, I marched right along with them! Oh, and the juice they serve is (I believe) only available there and at the Poly’s Kona Cafe. (I couldn’t remember the name, so I just did a little research, and it’s called Lilikoi juice — a blend of passionfruit, orange, and guava!) It is SOOOOOO good!! The breakfast breads are great, too!

Well, I know it’s not a real “character” breakfast, but it is a breakfast with characters, which is why my DW and I always eat at Whispering Canyon at WL. The wait staff is definitely a bunch of characters, it’s all you can eat, and Mickey Waffles. Need I say more? That’s all you truly need for a great breakfast anyway.

I love all of the character meals, so it’s hard to pick a favorite! (It doesn’t hurt that I can eat my weight in buffet-style scrambled eggs. πŸ˜‰ )

I think the Mad Hatter at 1900 Park Fare is my absolutely fav interaction — he never fails to crack us up. Then again, we have a tendency to act up with him and he truly appreciates our naughtiness.

Animal Kingdom also features a popular character breakfast hosted by Donald Duck. Along with the traditional brunch standards they do have a few African influenced offerings.

best character breakfast we had was at chef mickeys. my husband and i never went on a honeymoon and after 31 years of marriage we finally went . we celebrated our”anniversary/honeymoon” at cm and the reception from staff as well as the rest of the guests was amazing. now to mention the food…totally awesome. the buffet has something for EVERYONE. too many choices to pick from. there is no way you can sample all of it in one visit. next time we go back to our “came true wishes” world we plan to go back to cm and have what we didnt have the first time.

    Hey Kelly,
Husband and I are going to Disney without our kids in May. We will be there the last Sunday there is a Star Wars weekend, but husband has to work all day till 5 every day, leaving us nights to enjoy the parks. I’ve never even thought of doing Disney without my children, what EVER can we do? ( note sarcasm) Any hints and ideas of some uniquely adult fun at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are appreciated… I’ve all ready over done Epcot ( and know it inside and out) as I go visit relatives during the Food and Wine fest every year…. ideas?
